I like that. I think the US educational system should start teaching language earlier, especially Spanish. Then when students are in High School, they can learn French, German, Mandarin. I mean look at Europe, langauage classes are taken much more seriously there then here, from what I’ve seen.
I mentioned it before in an earlier post, but I would ove to learn Japanese.
I’d like to learn Latin. Partly because it would help immensely with learning Italian and French (which I also want to learn) and Spanish (which I’m learning now); and partly just so I could say I know Latin.
Is learning Spanish hard for you Marionette?
Since I’m taking it as required coursework at the university, it’s easy in the sense that I am “forced” to memorize vocabulary, grammar and the like. It takes a lot of discipline to learn a new language, and if you don’t use it, you’ll lose it. Unfortunately, I’m graduating in a few weeks and I don’t foresee a trip to any Spanish-speaking countries in my near future, so if I want to keep my skills I’ll have to keep exposing myself to it and studying on my own. I’ve been learning it for a little over a year and I’m at that point where I can keep it or lose it. In other words, if you’re learning a new language, “just keep swimming,” as Dory says.
Living in a bilingual town, I think it’ll be easier for me to learn Spanish. (which is my plan right now). Many of my friends are fluent in it, as well as a couple of family members. I’m happy that I’ll be having support so I can use this language outside of school. I want to eventually do humanitarian work in South America, so I’m dedicated to learning Spanish.

Haha, if I never need help next semester with my Spanish class, I’ll be sure to contact you!

He’s saying that you can talk to him in Spanish if you need practise.
Oh is that what he said? Well, thanks!
Sounds like a plan philipsteele. I would like to go to japan one day.
i want to learn Japanese…because i want to visit that country…so if i know that language then it will more helpful for my travailing…
Good plan philipsteele. It’s great your showing interest in the culture and language of Japan before visiting, instead of some people who just go and are ignorant of everything around them.
For six years in primary school we had Japanese classes and I can’t remember any of it I’d love to be able to learn Russian, don’t know why I just really like it. I however have no time at all to try and learn it, oh well.
I really want to learn Italian!

Wow, 6 years! That’s a lot. If you don’t mind me asking, what is your nationality?
Well, after learning Hebrew I’d think that Aramaic would be a breeze. Then I can get on the much more difficult task of learning Akkadian, or perhaps Assyrian. I have to balance that with my futile attempts at getting through Latin and Middle Persian.
I’m beginning to get serious about learning German. I’ll do something about it.

You should it’s a great language.
I’ve always wanted to learn Japanese. I did French and German in school, I was terrible at French and only so good at German. I only know the basics and a few sayings now.
