what makes a good movie

Pixar. Pixar makes a good movie(s).

  1. A good story. Not too simple but not extremely complex.
  2. Dimensional characters with realistic emotions and thoughts.
  3. Good writing. Honestly, even if you have the best story, the whole thing will fail if you use cliche lines every 3 seconds.
  4. Animation/acting: In order for everything to feel real and dimensional, a good actor or animator must bring the characters to life.
  5. A good mix of everything; action, humor, adventure, SOME romance (I hate romantic/drama movies :unamused:)

Finally, one of my top rules, the ideas can not feel SMOOSHED TOGETHER! Everything should blend well and make sense together. I’m looking at you, Monsters VS. Aliens…

Humor that’s not forced. Comical relief is necessary, but when they try too hard to get nothing but laughs the whole time, it ruins everything.

My thoughts exactly. I felt the same way about The Incredibles, especially Violet. I think everyone can sympathize with her in one way or another.

I think that TSS summed it up pretty well–

Bottom line: a movie should have a good plot, relatable characters,(as stated by bright dot-dasher and Pixelated) and it must take place in a believable, interesting wold. Other than that, the rest is up to the film makers.

^And, I agree with you, BDD. I love a movie that can make me laugh. 8D

For me, a good movie (animated or not) has to have a great story. If the story isn’t interesting, I won’t be hooked on it for long. I demand some sort of humor. If I don’t laugh, I don’t remember it as well. I mean, the parts of movies I always remember the most if I’ve only seen it once are the funny ones. Like in Drillbit Taylor: Drillbit’s pinky falling off, the bullies being hoisted up into the air and had balls shot at them. . . The funny things! But I don’t remember much more than that. I also love it when I can relate to a character. Like in Cars, I can relate to Doc for we are so much alike! I also enjoy it when a teenager can be a part of the story. They don’t have to be main, just kinda major so that I have a teen to relate to. Know what I mean? I do enjoy romance, it just can’t be all mushy and kissy the whole time. It has to be moderately romantic. I do enjoy suspense for it really hooks me it. Good actors are a must! If the actor isn’t good, then it just makes the characters bad. Also, I like it when I get emotional. Trust me, for some reason, when I cry, it is a great movie! The characters have to be able to go through a good metamorphosis to make me try to comprehend the movie better. I remember during a lot of 2007 and 2008, I would try to understand the small changes Lightning made before the noticable one on his last day there. I also love it when things are deep (not too deep) and make me think about the movie for years (like I stated above). I like action only sometimes. No superhero movies!! I’m not into that genre (yeah, it also includes The Incredibles. It was good, but I’m not into superhero moves.) Action doens’t have to be in a movie to make it good! Well, if I can think of more, I will. But right now, I can’t.

I agree with you for the most-part, LightningAndDoc. Very good point. Everything has to come in balance.

OH YEAH! I totally LOVE a great soundtrack in a movie. That’s one of the many things I liked about Beverly Hills Chihuahua. I GOTTA GET THAT SOUND TRACK!
