What musical groups do you like?

Well Mitch, each of us have our own different tastes in music, so I can understand completely of your one of a kind music tastes.

I’ve recently been having an obsession with Pink Floyd! …I blame my brother and dad.

I don’t think I’ve responded to this one yet. Which is odd since music practically runs the creativity side of my life. So where to start?

So basically, I really really aclectic. My itunes will be playing DMX one minute and bagpipes the next. I’ll listen to practically anything except non-indie 70’s, smooth jazz, and most country songs.

wow that’s Old Skool!!!

I have many of his compilations if you ever them let me know.

Edited. I combined both of your posts. – Mitch

I’d really love to listen to some country music sometime. I don’t think I’d like it much, but just having a chance to listen to it would be cool.

I have a feeling that the music scene here is very, very different to that in America. Right now, indie music is just everywhere, and with a fascination for indie comes an obsession with bands. Most people I know, including some of my close friends, find out every aspect of the band members’ lives, and sometimes it seems as though they’re more interested in the people involved more than the music they make. And how many hundreds of guys have I seen walking around dressed in the generic indie style- messed up hair, big jacket, the skinniest jeans imaginable and those annoying checkered shoes. I don’t get it, personally. And the music is all so similar that it just annoys me. :stuck_out_tongue: But hey, each to their own!

But I think I’ll stick to my Trance.

Hmm I’ll have to check out this 'indie" music you speak of. What would be a typical Artist name that produces indie music?

I have always been a big fan of music that comes from Europe.

And Ya Trance FTW!!!

How ironic is this ?

There’s a group called the Fightin’ Texas Aggie Band.

Is this where Aggie got her username?

I personally find it kind of hard to pin down what exactly make an indie band. When I think of original indie I think of old school stuff like Sex Pistols and Black Flag. But indie’s been redefined so many times since the 70’s. At the moment I’d think of bands like Louis XIV, Interpol, The Hives, Jem, Imogen Heap, The Zutons, ect.
There are a lot of bands I could classify as indie, but at the same time they have a punk/rock/alternative sound too.

Well, I’m not sure if you’ll have heard of them, but bands like Bloc Party, Dirty Pretty Things, Radiohead, Arcade Fire, Franz Ferdinand, the Libertines, the Kooks, Editors…

They’re all very same-y. Some of them are worth listening to, but it’s not easy picking out the good from the bad. Out of them all, I’d probably recommend Arcade Fire. But, it depends on what your taste is.

Only one I have heard of is Radiohead. I have just never heard the term indie before.

I love indie music from Europe.
I like The Kooks and Arcade Fire out of the bands you mentioned.

I also love Damien Rice, Unkle Bob, Travis, Kate Walsh, and Emiliana Torrini (although she’s from Iceland). Oops I just realized that all of these except Unkle Bob and Travis are solo singers…

Personally, I think indie music is the best and I love when you can hear their accents in their singing. I like the folk side of indie more than the rock side which I think is where it starts to all sound the same.

JamieLew- You’re very right there; when it goes rocky, it just goes wrong.

Yes. With “The Kooks”, there are only two songs on their CD that I like and they are the 2 songs that don’t follow their normal rocky emoness. The rest of their songs all kind of blend together, IMO.

As far as rock goes, I am a big fan of Queen. Also John Lennon.
Otherwise, I’m mostly a classical opera/orchestral girl. ( I heart Wolfy!)
I also listen to tons of soundtracks from shows and movies.

CL: Oh Queen! I love their music so much! It can pump you up so much.

Wha Hoo got The Crystal Method’s Vegas 10th Anniversary Deluxe Edition CD!!! ;-o

Once again, I have never heard of those guys either. :unamused:

Whoo. I love music.

I love a bunch of different songs from different artists, but my main faves are:

-Gorillaz
-Three Days Grace
-Papa Roach
-Red Hot Chili Peppers
-Bryan Adams
-Billy Talent
-Blur
-Finger Eleven
-666
-HelloGoodbye
-Nine Inch Nails

Yeeeah.
