Your Cars 2 Personal Reviews!

You’re welcome! Ha, I love him too! I think Francesco’s the perfect rival for Lightning. I like him a lot better than Chick. :-\ Speaking of Francesco, I just saw this featurette with him, kind of like "Holley’s Hot Tips for Traveling". This was like "Francesco’s Tips for Dominating Racing" or something like that. It was pretty cute. "Francesco is triple speed." 8D

Well I failed at remembering to Write a review on Thursday. So I’ll do it now. Be warned I SUCK at writing in a formal tone, and my ideas may be jumbled around a little. But Hey, it’s a review still.

My general consensus when I walked out of the theatre was “Cars 1 had a better message, but Cars 2 was a better film.” Looking back on that statement, I have started to drift away from it. Having watched all 22 Bond films (In order nonetheless) I believe I know what a spy film and a spy parody looks like. Cars 2 was definitely a spy film…if it featured Finn and Holly. Featuring Mater? No. I felt it was more a “fish-out-of-water” film for Mater. If Pixar had put more screen time on the Spy Duo, it would have a more authentic spy film feeling. But they didn’t. I must admit Mater somehow figured out the crime. The very end of the film felt like Pixar couldn’t decide if they wanted a detective film or not. In every Spy movie I’ve watched, the villain is known from the start. But here we didn’t know the villain. Another pet peeve of mine, now that I look back at it, was a plot hole many haven’t noticed yet. Finn had some sort of camera that could scan things. Correct? Well he was scanning for the camera from the Oil rig, and somehow the scanner knew if it was the same camera, even though Finn had no idea what it did, and the audience only knew that it looked identical to a World Grand Prix Camera. So how did the scanner know the difference?

Enough nitpicking! On to the good stuff. Visually, Cars 2 was stunning, and the locations were amazing. I was blown away by the visuals on the cars. Pixar really pulled out all the stops on the animation. I felt that the message coming from Cars 2 held weight too. To me it was “Be yourself. People will like you for who you are.” I also almost teared up at how sweet the Queen was. (I can’t believe I just said that.)
“Oh, Who’s winning the race?” <3 The very end was a great tribute to the first film, The Doc tribute was great, but rather short. Francesco was arrogant, which was fine. It added to the interest.

I really wish Rod had more Screen time… He was awesome.

So Cars 2 is a (druumroll) 7.8/10!

Bonus: I was watching Green Hornet a while ago, and I noticed something. It’s really similar to Cars 2. Many deaths are shown off screen, and the good guy almost dies at the end. Also there’s a bigger guy behind the bad guy. (You’ll understand that if you’ve seen both movies).

I agree!! I was really looking forward to both Finn and Holley but they had a lot smaller role than what I was expecting. I would have liked more of the film based on them.

I loved Cars 2, I liked it as much as the first one. I do wish there was more Lightning McQueen and Sally and a little less Mater. I really liked Finn and Holley. [spoil]I find it interesting that Mater actually is the one who figures out who was behind the whole scheme. I definitely think that it was a good idea to have a spy story and I think it is an interesting twist to have Mater as the hero[/spoil] I thought that the animation was brilliant. Pixar just get better visually with every film they make. I definitely think it is worth seeing and am pleased with it.
I would give it 8 out of 10.

Well me personally I didn’t like Cars 2 at all,in fact I kinda hated it…

[b:ny29g7bj]What I did like[/b:ny29g7bj]

*The diffrent locations in the Cars world,I loved Japan the most out of all of them, but every location in the movie was beautiflly animated it almost felt real…

*The soundtrack was awsome! A lot better than the first one,I thing out of all of them "Collusion of Worlds" was my favorite one,but yeah the music was pure awsomeness!!

*How the film started. I dunno I like the intro [spoil:ny29g7bj]especially when it cuts to RS[/spoil:ny29g7bj].It just feels like time has passed since we’ve been there…

*I really liked Lightning’s new rival in this movie,he was a jerk but there was something charming and funny about him…the funniest part is when [spoil:ny29g7bj]he got angry after Lightning called hin "fragile"…[/spoil:ny29g7bj] LOL,hilarious!!!

[b:ny29g7bj]What I didn’t like(Hated)[/b:ny29g7bj]

*I really wish the movie was more focused on Lightning…um hello Pixar isn’t this [spoil:ny29g7bj]Lightning's race[/spoil:ny29g7bj] in the first place? Mater dosen’t have enough character depth to be a main character, are you kidding me? Ok,so he’s funny, goofy,Lightning’s best friend, people make fun of him…ok so what? People wouldn’t make fun of him if he wasn’t such a dunce…(I’ll get to this later). And furthermore he basicly stayed the same…no change whatsoever…I have to wonder why Mater was made the main character in the first place…was it because he sold the most?

*No character development. Pretty much everyone in this movie especially the new characters were one-dimentional…like I said no devlopment whatsoever…Holley was somewhat cute but there’s nothing special about her…she was just there…Ok she’s a british spy chick with, weapons…and? Honestly I don’t see how that makes her a better female character than Sally, and who cares who’s prettier than who? And speaking of Sally, I didn’t like her too much in this movie, mostly cause of the whole Francesco thing…but I dunno Sally amongst the other characters were weird in this movie. Again so much unused potental, her character could’ve been expanded more, but I guess in John Lassiter’s mind it only comes to those who sell the most which dosen’t include Sally…Everybody to be honest were just…there.

I didn’t feel like typing more…so if you want a full sum of my views just look at Rac_Rules post…

Ok and something else that has made me question weither I hate Pixar or not…They put a car kiss in Cars 2 but it wasn’t [spoil:ny29g7bj]Lightning and Sally[/spoil:ny29g7bj]…yeah I hate Pixar… :-\

OK, I guess it’s my turn! ;-p So, I saw the film a few hours ago, so hopefully things are still fairly fresh in my mind.

I loved it. I really did love it. I know I’m in the minority here, but I thought it was a pretty good sequel. I loved the whole spy element, the music, the animation and visuals, and story line. Finn and Holley were great (Finn is now my favorite ‘Cars’ character, replacing Doc) and I was so glad that John Lasseter kept to his word and actually gave us a proper spy movie, albeit one with humor, but still we got a spy flick which I’m more than thankful for! And the visuals, I can sum them up with one word: WOW - the animation is mindblowing. Pixar really is at the top of it’s game animation-wise (although some can argue that they are no longer crafting such brilliant stories, but that’s a whole different subject…). The villains were great (I loved Professor Z!) and the whole old lemon thing, I thought, was pretty cool. There were also a few good laughs in there too.

Now, here are a few of my niggles. First off, the film felt as if it had been rushed. Not rushed animation wise, but rushed story-wise. I don’t think they got the pacing just right. The film kinda jumps all over the place, and to be honest, I felt kinda tired walking out of the cinema. So, yes, I found following the film quite hard. And another thing, which has been mentioned before, no character development! I want to see these characters grow in each film. I didn’t see that. Oh, and if I really want to be critical, I could say that Finn and Holley didn’t get enough screen time, and Mater being the main character didn’t really work, but those have already been touched upon before. Also, back to my point about things that seemed rushed, was that the Doc Hudson tribute? Seriously? It lasted about 30 seconds and there was no emotion in that scene at all.

There we are. Just a few of my thoughts! Seriously, I don’t get what was so awfully wrong with this movie. Forget the critics, they didn’t like the first, they’re not gonna like the second. But I don’t get why so many fans are being so harsh. It’s not Pixar’s best effort (in fact, it’s probably their worst, it ties with A Bug’s Life for me) but it’s still pretty awesome!

I didn’t go on for too long did I? :unamused:

GOING TO SEE IT AGAIN FOR THE 3RD TIME TOMOZOOOO!!! (I think I’ve put a review on already but on a different forum; Can’t be bothered copying and pasting etc. etc. etc.)

Posted this in another thread, but I think it counts as a review.

Loyal Cars 2 fans, it’s time to stand up for Pixar. Critics have been blowing Cars 2’s ratings to pieces. Their reviews have blank statements with no evidence from the film. Just take a look here: www.rottentomatoes.com/m/cars_2. Their main criticism is that Cars 2 is not “emotional”, like Cars (which it doesn’t have to be, it’s in a whole different genre), and that it’s only for kids (which it isn’t, because most kids can’t understand much of the humor.)Together we can fill the hole the critics made. Start posting :exclamation:

OK, I can’t write long reviews, so I’ll just write my thoughts about this film.

I liked it. It’s really entertaining, all the spy stuff is well thought-out and the action don’t get you bored. However, I felt like it wasn’t Pixar style. Maybe I was expecting too much after Toy Story 3, but it looked like Cars 2 was intended to be funny rather than heartfelt. Even the sad moment where [spoil]Lightning reads Mater’s letter[/spoil] was completely ruined for me by [spoil]Guido’s puppy eyes  .[/spoil] The thing I didn’t like very much was too much Mater and too little of Radiator Springs citizens. The scene where [spoil]they fought enemy cars using their skills[/spoil] was awesome, but I wish they got more screentime. Also, Lightning was like a load. I wish he did something useful. I was pleasantly surprised with Sarge, though (he is my 2nd favorite RS resident after Doc). In the issue, Cars 2 was pretty cool as an action film. I kept my eyes on the screen all the time, and my brother is still head over heels about the movie. I still liked it a bit less than the first one.
