Your Pixar Movies Classification

They’re all so great, it’s hard to rank the ones that aren’t your favorite or least favorite.

Exactly. And Disney movies are harder. Because a)there are SO many of them and b) They’re all so, well different. You go from the Golden Age where Walt was constantly pushing boundaries, to the Package Era where they made short films because of the war and strikes, to Reconstruction/Silver age, to the Dark Ages where you get films like Jungle Book and Rescuers which look nothing like anything Disney did previously.

That’s what I do when ranking Disney films, I do it by era. It’s just easier. How am I suppose to compare Make Mine Music on the same level as Pinocchio. Or Beauty and the Beast to Aristocats?

Oh gosh, those Disney films are hard to rate! Yeah, it’s not like I really rank them, but I do have a few categories: the ones I love and think are perfect, the ones that are not perfect but still really good, the good/decent (which is most of them), and the sub-par level (actually only a few or maybe even just one). I think there was only one true Disney era, which was when Walt reigned, and every era after that was emulating the Disney style as best as it could have been done. For the most part, I think they have found success at doing that. Also, I don’t even refer to films from the dark or Renaissance eras as being from those eras because those are just names they gained after time. There are a few dark age films I like better than almost all Renaissance films for example, so I never refer to those ages as such. I will say that I think the “John Lasseter” era has done the best so far at bringing back that Disney feel and bringing fresh creativity to the table. But otherwise, I can only categorize them into large groups.

For me, my lists are always getting rearranged according to what I’ve last seen—I fall in love with these films each time I watch them, so ranking them is really…difficult…

And yeah, it’s way worse with Disney movies too. Granted, that’s many of many decades of movies to rank!

Totally agreed, Leirin, IncredigirlVirginia and ellie-jessie-eve. I know it can stay this way with Monsters University. I will ALWAYS be optimistic to Pixar, my #1 company.

    Seriously, Pixar is the best!

[list removed].

Hey Virginia, remind me why TS3 is the second lowest? I forgot. But I’m curious!

The reason I hate classifying Pixar movies is that makes the ones on the bottom look bat. When in actuality I love them! (just not as much as some others!)

I like the movie a lot. But I really love love love the first two. Basically, I just like it less. I guess somehow it seems less sincere to me. Realistically, it could probably switch places with any of the 3 movies above it, as they’re all pretty much a tie in my mind. Making lists is so hard. 8D

Oh, I meant not in compparison to the other two. Like in comparison to all the films, why it’s ranked 10! (Sorry I know it’s a hard question to answer >_< )

Thanks LQ! I’ve never had the guts to dare to classify them in a numerical order… I just love them too much

I’d like to try to explain each one, so here goes.

The Incredibles/Toy Story/Toy Story 2–Toy Story 2 is my favorite of the TS movies. It’s just so amazing, and I think has the best overall blend of perfect elements. Voicework, heart, comedy, everything. And as opposed to Toy Story 3, I find it more progressive to the series. From the first one with all the “being replaced” lines, we can assume eventually a toy may be thrown out. But I feel like this one really is more reflective with a mix of new and old ideas, whereas the 3rd simply repeats ideas from 2 and manipulates our feelings for the toys. Honestly I realize it was the “end/conclusion”, but I don’t see how 3 added to the series. Toy Story, is just a perfect film in my eyes. I don’t see how it could be any better. The Incredibles I discovered when I was 9, so I can’t really say I “grew up with this one” so much. I was just so amazed by this movie, the characters, the really clever dialogue. I just love it. It baffles me to this day that this seems to be the one Pixar film they are avoiding making a sequel to. They’re bouncing all around it! I’m dying here! 8D Other than Toy Story 2, the only Pixar sequel I would have ever hoped for or guessed at would have been The Incredibles 2. Guess not.

2.)Up is just another case of a perfect blend of heart, humor, and likable characters. Nothing else to say, I see it as perfect. If anything, it isn’t #1 as well because of my strange emotional attachment to the films at #1.

3.)Brave is, I know, not the most popular Pixar film. However I really “felt” it. There was no dying parent, nothing all that odd, just a family disagreement. This was for me what Finding Nemo was for many. It really helped me as I’ve had a lot of disagreements with my mom. And Merida isn’t my very favorite princess or Pixar character, but there’s no denying she’s awesome. Love the soundtrack too, especially “Learn me Right” and “Noble Maiden Fair”. There could have been more development, and maybe a better script, but this movie hit its target with me: I felt good after watching it. It makes me happy.

4.)Ratatouille is really interesting to me. We have these very humble characters with very high hopes. I really like everything in this movie so it’s difficult to quantify into parts I like. I always feel very moved at the end with Ego’s speech.

5.)Monsters, Inc. is a film that I view very similarly to Toy Story. It has some really great characters, an awesome score, and it’s extremely inventive. You can tell they had an idea for a movie, not a movie for an idea. I love it. It’s only this low because I love the others a -bit- more. I really have no criticisms.

6.)Cars/Cars 2 are both very flawed. I don’t care! I can’t defend them, and I shouldn’t have to. Call them my guilty pleasures I guess; I find them entertaining and like the characters.

7.)Wall-E/A Bug’s Life/Monsters University/Toy Story 3 Wall-E is another very good film. I like the characters and setting very much. It’s down here for the love of other movies. A Bug’s Life has a great cast of characters. Also like the music. MU was a mixed bag for me. That said I liked it and was not disappointed. Toy Story 3 is the king of all mixed bags. I loved some parts, and very extra hared others. I love these characters. And I don’t care how old he is, the fact that these toys mean SO MUCH to Andy, and yet so little, just makes me feel very odd. I don’t know how to feel. And I really began to hate characters like Jessie and Slinky, characters I had always liked. “Oh look, Woody’s been right every other time ever. Let’s treat him like a lying jerk and run off to Day care!” I know not in the first one. Please let’s not discuss his behavior in the original, since Jessie wasn’t even there, and Slink was loyal in that one. I just like this film. I don’t love it. I can’t love it. It hurt me, for lack of a better term.

11.)Finding Nemo is a movie I HATED as a child. I hated that Coral died so abruptly. I hated that I liked her, and then she dies, and Nemo had no mother. That’s how I was. At least I learned to like it; I still can’t sit through Bambi without freaking out. That said, I also kind of hated because of its popularity over The Incredibles. And I still haven’t forgiven it for that, even though now I do like the movie itself.

Gonna do my best here

  1. Finding Nemo

  2. Toy Story 3

  3. Ratatouille
These three are imo all perfect, they are high on laughs and have a BIG HEART. Especially Toy Story 3 makes me cry my eyes out. Finding Nemo, it’s just Dory that steals the show, and all the characters are sooo cute.
Ratatouille has such a great story, from beginning to end, so refined, just like Remy’s recipes.

  4. Monsters Inc

  5. Toy Story 2

  6. Toy Story
Monsters Inc is so original! the story is just TOO GOOD. I just wish there was a little bit more emotion in it. The 2nd Toy Story was a great movie, but just lacks a bit in the end where imo a little too much happens, they keep adding scenes where things are looking worse and worse, it’s a bit too much for me.
The first Toy Story is my least favourite out of the three, just for the simple fact that I LOVE all the new characters that join the franchise as it continues.

  7. The Incredibles

  8. Wall-e

  9. Up
Three great movies aswell. Though for me they all lack something. In The Incredibles it’s just something that I cannot put my finger on. With Wall-e its all perfect untill the humans come on board, then it’s just good. With UP, Muntz dogs annoy the crap out of me, having them steering airplanes was way too much, sad really because the movie starts SO GOOD.

  10. Cars

  11. A Bug’s Life

  12. Brave

  13. Cars 2
I really liked Cars and A Bug’s Life, the stories were simple but had great humor and heart.
Brave, I expected so much more out of this one. storywise it’s just a mess, it starts with her riding her horse and then saying that once a year she can do whatever she wants, but it is not explained why this is, and it doesn’t add anything whatsoever to the story apart from a nice scenery. I didn’t like the fact that her mom turned into a bear either and that she could reverse the curse by sowing up the tapestry (RANDOM!) Still LOVE Merida.
Cars 2, well… lol, the heart that Cars had, was ripped out of thise one, all that was left is a highly forgettable movie, I just saw it once in the cinema and never felt the need to see it again, it’s the only Pixar DVD I do not own.

omg more emotion, that movie makes me want to cry almost every single time!

Nah, I’m just giving you a hard time. Great list!

What scenes make you wanna cry? the only really emotional one I can think of is where Sulley revisits Boo’s door.
I may have forgot a few things from this movie, its been a while.

Oh my, the goodbye scene? When he finally gets to take her home. With the sad music and the “Kitty?” “Kitty has to go”. Pathos punch.
