Your Top 5 Animated Movies

I’ve really got to see more Miyazaki (or Studio Ghibli) films… I only ever saw Spirited Away and it was interesting but I don’t feel I really got into it… aside from the animation I can’t really pick anything I was very entertained or moved by. Maybe I’ve got to watch it again now I’m more mature.

My own top 10

Honorable mentions: South Park, Bigger, Longer, and Uncut.
Hey Arnold! The Movie
Titan A.E.

  1. Watership Down-Supurb story
  2. Fantasia-decades ahead of its time
    #8 Fantasia 2000-excellent redeux
  3. Cars-visually stunning with a decent story
  4. The Iron Giant-kids movie for adults
  5. The Incredibles-total excitment
  6. Chicken Run-wonderful reduex of “The Great Escape”
  7. The Rescuers-last Disney animated movie by Walt’s men and my first movie
  8. Who Framed Roger Rabbit-wonderful period piece with a social commentary we all can agree on, and Jessica Rabbit. Bugs and Mickey share a scene.
  9. les Tripletts de Belleville-makes you turn your brain up to 11 with a wonderful score, unforgettable music, great story, wonderful characters, and my love cycling gets it just due. Armstrong, Indurain, Lemond, Hinault, Merkx, Coppi, Anquitel, Bobon, and Polidor are all in it.

Not to dis anyone, I can’t get into Japanese anime.
Speed Racer feels like a cartoon.

my top 5 animated movies are:

  1. Wall-E
  2. Toy Story (1 & 2)
  3. Cars
  4. The Incredibles
  5. Finding Nemo

Wow this is very difficult! I’ll put mine as a top 5 for now, although its ever changing for the most part, depending on my mood

  1. Pinocchio (this has never changed, nothing has surpassed it for me yet!)
  2. Aladdin
  3. Toy Story
    4.Kung Fu Panda
  4. Hercules

the list will change and goes on forever…

Ok, I’m gonna list 5 of my favorite NON-PIXAR animated movies (because obviously I love all Pixar ones)

  1. The Lion King
  2. The Shrek movies
  3. Prince of Egypt
  4. Howl’s Moving Castle (interesting Japanese animation)
  5. Grave of the Fireflies (also Japanese and probably one of the saddest films I’ve ever seen)

There are many, many more though…

Grave of the Fireflies! I completely agree, definitely one of the saddest films, animation or live-action, I’ve ever seen.
Plague Dogs is pretty depressing too though. Anyone who enjoyed Watership Down should check that one out if they haven’t already, it’s written by the same person, Richard Adams.

I remember Watership Down - I haven’t seen Plague Dogs though. I’ll have to check it out…next time I’m in the mood to cry.

  1. WALL-E
  2. Persepolis
  3. Ratatouille
  4. The Incredibles
  5. The Triplets of Belleville

To make this list easier on me, I’m omitting all Pixar films.

  1. My Neighbor Totoro
  2. Spirited Away
  3. The Iron Giant
  4. Whisper of the Heart
  5. Aladdin (I thought it would be fair to include at least ONE Disney classic, since I am a pretty big Disney nut)
  1. Toy Story
  2. Spirited Away
  3. Shrek
  4. WALL-E
  5. Toy Story 2
  6. Monsters inc.
  7. Cars
  8. Ratatouille
  9. Finding Nemo
  10. Madacascar 2

To make this easier I didn’t put pixar movies in this next list.

  1. Spirited Away
  2. Shrek
  3. Madacascar 2
  4. The nightmare before chirstmas/Corspe bride
  5. Ice age

Thanks for the non-pixar list idea queen_of_painting.
