Same here. But, I know lots of people with connections with Pixarians, living in the Bay. My dad's met Lasseter a fiew times, and he visits my work now and then. But not when I've been there! :(

Yep, my dad's in the wine industry too, so he's been to a party of a mutal friend. He also won backstage passes to a concert and John Lasseter had passes too! My sister also saw him at the grocery store, in a Hawaiian shirt.

Oh my gravy, I'm so jealous that you even have the possibility of coming in contact with him. 8D If I met John Lasseter, that would make my life. Literally. I would never ask for anything ever again.

Wow, I guess I'm ancient compared to a lot of you guys! So many here who were only young kids(even babies!) when Toy Story came out... But I go back waaaay longer than that! I've always been so impressed and entertained by animation, and I used to go to many different animation festivals back when I was in college in Miami. At one of these fests, I saw the Pixar short Luxo, Jr. It blew me away, both becausecof its appearance and its simple, effective way of engaging the viewer emotionally. To give CG table lamps such personality and spirit was a real feat, IMO. I guess I just tried to find and follow anything Pixar did after that and I was always a fan! :D Even so, I wasn't prepared for how much I would fall in love with the feature films, once they started to be released. Toy Story was one of the best movies I'd ever seen up to that time, and if I was a Pixar fan before that came out, I was a full-blown Pixar freak after I saw it! And now my daughter is a fan, too, and watching Pixar creations with her allows me to enjoy them in a whole new way.

Most of you would know by now how I got into the fandom, but for the uninitiated, here's two blog posts that tell it all.

That is such a great story! I wish I too could of followed Pixar along since it's beginning. Do you still go to many animation fests?

I wish! The fests seem to travel less frequently now, I think because of YouTube and websites like that, where you can view a lot of this work anytime you want. Also, the traveling fests that do still go around tend to still go to big movie market areas (California, NY, etc.) and to universities/colleges where a lot of students tend to go see them. I went to a few festivals a year back in college, but haven't been to one since (and that was a looong time ago!). I do try to check on some animation-centric websites and read a few animation trade publications when I can find them, just to keep up with what's going on. But I miss those festivals, there were always new and amazing things to see in them and I can't think of a better way to spend a few hours than watching the cream of that year's animation crop! :D

Having been born only about three months before the release of Toy Story, I can't remember a time before I loved the Pixar films. The first two Toy Story movies (and now the third one as well) have always been my favorite movies, but I guess my true obsession with them didn't begin until one day in summer 2009 when I was surfing the Internet and discovered that Toy Story 3 at long last was being made. I was really happy that day, because I had been waiting almost my entire life to find out what would happen to the toys once Andy left for college. Over time my obsession grew to not just Toy Story, but to all of the films and to Pixar itself.

That's great, CowgirlJessie! i can't remember not loving them, either. And I totally had a spaz attack when I learned they were making Toy Story 3.

I distinctly remember seeing Toy Story on opening weekend when I was 5 and loving it. At that same time, my mom gave me a video tape with Pixar animated shorts and I watched them often, my favorite probably being "Knick Knack" (these were the earlier ones). When A Bug's Life was coming out in theaters, even as an eight-year-old I was already aware that it was a Pixar film and from that point, I always associated Pixar films with Pixar studios... Does that make sense? I know a LOT of people who confuse different studios, especially at a young age, but I had a strong sense of what came from where. And that made me admire Pixar more so because I knew just how awesome they were.

I would say the more extreme fandom came in high school, which started with a craving to watch Disney's Peter Pan (possibly due to themes of aging and maturity), but I was horrified upon discovering that my mom threw out almost all my Disney videos. She said it was because I never watched them anymore, because, you know, I was a typical apathetic teenager, but I still had annual Disney marathons at that point. Anyway, so searching for Peter Pan led to craving other Disney films, and then Pixar films (which are equally enjoyable at an older age!), and then some others from Don Bluth, Studio Ghibli, etc. My freshman year of high school was one big nostalgia fest, basically, and it led to collecting Disney/Pixar memorabilia, drawing a lot of fan art, and developing a passion for the art of animation and storytelling.

So that's probably where it started. :)

I am unbelievably jealous.

I got into Pixar through watching A Bug's Life and Toy Story 2 a gazillion times as a kid.

I've been a fan since I've seen Toy Story. But I think I enetred their fandom around The Incredibles.
But what if Andy gets another dinosaur? A mean one? I just don't think I can take that kind of rejection. Im a OFFICIAL PIXARTEER Image Image
