The company starts in 1979 - it was then that George Lucas hired Ed Catmell from the New York Institute of Technology. Ed became head of computing at Lucasfilm. Seven years later, in 1986 , Steve Jobs bought the department from Lucas. A team of 40 people formed an independent company, Pixar.

The name was a fictional noun (Kodak and Xerox were named on the same principle) - it was originally coined for Pixar Image Computer . By the way, in 1986, Steve Jobs also hired Paul Rand to develop the NeXT logo. Maybe they are use logo maker.

The same Pixar Image Computer

One of Pixar's first projects was the short film “Junior Suite.” It was the official directorial debut of John Lasseter [“Toy Story”, “Cars”], and also became the first 3D-animated film to be nominated for an Oscar in the category “Best Short Film”.

Luxo Jr. has become a true Pixar calling card, acting as a talisman and appearing at the beginning and end of each film. You probably know what will happen if you saw a movie from Pixar - Luxo jumps to the right, stops next to the letter “I” and jumps on it until it flattenes. The same thing happens in the original short with the ball.

In some films, logo animation has undergone minor changes. For example, in WALL-E (2008), Luxo has a light bulb burn out, and the main character appears in the frame to change it.

There is a whole Pixar Wiki page that describes the various variations on how to proceed. There are not many exceptions - in the rest of the films, everything goes according to the standard scheme.

According to Lee Uncrach, the animation for the Pixar logo was made by Pete Docter , director of Monster Corporation and Up.

The logo was later resuscitated for a higher resolution image. But the one who did this work simply reflected what Pete had already created.

Pixar animation is a tribute to the very first work, Luxo Jr. Story.

It was really interesting to know about Pixar logo history.

I like such stories like LEGO company history and others, they have something mysterious I think :D

Also it is really interesting that a few years ago we simply couldn't imagine that such logos could be created independently without the help of a highly paid designer in convenient online services like https://logotip.online

And now, looking at the logo of the Toys History, I understand that I could create the same logo for them, although I don't have an Art degree!
