Well, Buzz got his own TV show without Woody, it'd only be fair if Woody got his own movie. 8D

TBH, I would've liked to see a Woody's Roundup show rather than the Buzz Lightyear Of Star Command cartoon. I know that Pixar's original idea for the beginning of Toy Story was to have Andy watch a Buzz Lightyear cartoon, but the one we eventually got wasn't all that spectacular. In fact, I heard that John Lasseter kinda hated it. Not saying I hate Buzz (in fact he's one of my favorite Pixar characters), but I don't think the show was necessary.

I've only seen the pilot movie (well, I've seen a bunch of episodes, but I was like eight at the time). I thought it was pretty good, laughed a fair number of times.

Anyway, I'd kind of like an explanation as to why seemingly only Buzz Lightyear related toys are delusional. If they've going to do this movie they might as well take the opportunity to smooth out the rules of the universe a bit, cause they're kind of a wreck.

Well, the reason why Buzz Lightyear toys are delusional (as far as we've seen in the films) are delusional is because they're all set to demo mode. Maybe all toys are like this at first but we don't see them like this. The Battlesaurs from the upcoming Toy Story That Time Forgot are delusional too.

But, wait a minute...in TS3, when Losto resets Buzz to demo, his switch is in play mode (before Losto slides it to demo). How did it get to Play Mode? Maybe it switched when he fell down Sid's stairs or maybe Andy switched it during the timespan from 2 to 3 but if it was switched to Play, he wouldn't remember all the toys, right? Maybe it happens after the toys take a big fall. After Zurg fell down the elevator shaft, he wasn't deluded and either was Buzz after he fell (although Buzz saw the commercial for himself and found out he's just a toy)

Also, this brings up another question. So, in Al's Toy Barn, all the Buzz Lightyears in boxes aren't alive. So, how is Prospector alive when he's in his box? I mean, I know he gets out of his box to move the remote and to screw the vents shut, but how did he come alive in the first place if he's mint in the box and supposedly never been opened?

Wouldn't Andy have switched Buzz to play mode after first taking him out of the box to play with? While we don't know the specifics for Buzz, demo mode is usually a limited example of what play mode has to offer, and usually switched right out of the box.

The question of how Prospector came alive is a good question that we don't have an exact answer for. Though it seems that Prospector may have been taken out of his box before (maybe by Al). Though there are hints that toys can be "woken up" even in their boxes. The New Buzz in Al's Toy Barn seems familiar with the event of a Buzz Lightyear escaping their box. In an early draft for Toy Story, a collectible Slinky is able to communicate, despite living out his existence in his original box. So while we don't have an exact explanation for this, it's possible.

Buzz Lightyear of Star Command was great show back in the day, nothing too deep or meaningful, but good for some after school entertainment. Though from what we've seen in the movies, this is hardly the route Pixar took. Buzz Lightyear was a lone superhero in his fight against Zurg. I want to say it's almost like the Fleischer Brothers Superman cartoon.

Well, if Andy switched Buzz to play, then would he still think he's a space ranger or would he think he's a toy?

Also, how does Zurg escape from his box? And how does the New Buzz wake up only when Buzz tries to grab his belt?

Also, I did like the BLOSC show. It was on when I was like 1 or 2 and I used to watch it whenever it was on. I liked it.

Eh, I've never seen any correlation between the switch and Buzz's personality. Remember, Rex flips that switch a few times when trying to turn the evil Buzz back to normal, but it had no effect on him.

Good point, I completely forgot about that. Well, there's an answer, toys can be woken up by some kind of outwards interference. As for New Buzz, he was already out of his packaging and capable of life. He was either playing possum when he saw Andy's Buzz, or Andy's Buzz woke him up at that moment.

^oh yeah, I forgot that Rex flips it. Anyways, let's get back to Toy Story 4. I feel a lot better about there being a TS4 because John Lasseter's directing it. If he's directing it, it's probably going to be at least decent.

I just thought of some thing, or maybe I'm thinking too much hereXD

What if they could tie both a love story and Woody/Andy's dad story together? Like say, maybe an old toy from Andy's dad's past comes back in some how. Maybe she could forget every thing that happened between them in the past due to having an off switch in the back and getting turned off cuz he had to give her away before leaving, Woody could have a quick flash of lightning by grabbing her hand remembering some thing, like a kiss good bye before being turned off???

It'd be an emotional romantic ride for Woody and Toy Story fans, give us some insight on his past with Andy's dad, kill two birds with one stone.

Good idea or bad?

That kind of sounds like of like WALL-E's climax stretched out to feature length.

On a completely unrelated note, this movie is apparently going to be "competing" (yeah, nothing against the franchise, but any animated movie is going to be buried by this thing) with How to Train Your Dragon 3, which was already moved back from its original release date, which was competing with Finding Dory.

Poor Dreamworks. Image I expect another schedule change.

That echoes a sentiment I discussed with someone on another forum.
Our favorite Dreamworks Franchise is Monsters Vs Aliens, which is largely ignored as most of the focus is dedicated to Shrek.
And as time went on, Shrek just lost the appeal it had, yet it kept getting promoted.

I don't want that to happen to Toy Story.
It's better to end on a high note then just keep drawing it out for the sake of having a sequel.
That's why TS3 should be the last movie, it's an end and a new beginning in one.

I was always more interested in Woody's Roundup then Star Command.
I've never really watched the SC cartoon, as it holds no interest for me.

It would have been interesting to explore all the history of the Woody's Roundup stuff, as we only see parts of it during the second movie.
Given that Andy owns a Jessie hat and she had a small selection of her own dedicated merchandise (presumably to appeal to the female demographic of the WR fanbase), it would be fascinating to see all that stuff during the show's prime.

I wonder how authentic a modern day recreation of Woody's Roundup would be?
Would they still film it in monochrome?

We have no proof that hat has a thing to do with woody's roundup. As far as I'm concerned that's just a generic cowboy hat. The only reason he had Jessie was that she randomly appeared in his room one day.

Not sure what you mean by "small selection of her own dedicated merchandise", nothing comes to mind off the top of my head outside of Jessie.

Well in TS2, Emily had a bunch of Jessie stuff.

This is what I meant by Jessie merchandise:
Image

I can't see the album cover properly, but it looks like it says "Learn to Critter Yodel".
There's also an alarm clock, a lunchbox and a hat.

I checked on Andy's hat, it's triangular, not circular, so it can't be an official Jessie hat.
Still wondering about the colors though, it's too close to be accidental.
Cheap knockoff perhaps?

I thought about it and I think it's best not to see another Toy Story feature if it comes out.
I'd rather remember the good times then watch it decline as quality drops out.
I was a Shrek fan and now I can't stand it.
I'd rather not have that happen with Toy Story.
