Building a Pizza Planet Truck

Hey guys and gals! I’ve been stalking and lurking these forums sporadically over the past few months, and decided to make an account and tell of a project that me and a few friends are working on. I’m a part of a group called The Creative Collective, we film and do other projects (Vimeo). Our first building project was The Portable Totoro, a wooden stand up structure of the character My Neighbor Totoro. Our next project was the psychiatric booth from Peanuts. Our last building project is about to begin. We are planning to build a fully operational Pizza Planet Truck from Toy Story and the rest of Pixar films. The truck is seen somewhere in every Pixar film, and we plan to make it perfect as far as aesthetics go, from the rocket on top of the truck, to the decals and famous “YO” on the back of the bed.

After building it, we plan to take a road trip up to Emeryville, CA, home of PIXAR studios and see what they say.

Overall we’ll be making a documentary of the entire process, from the early finding and building of the truck, to the road trip and final outcome, and everything in between. Once we have the full documentary it’s gonna be entered into a **** ton of festivals (The last film we entered into a festival was Clash earlier this year). The documentary will include time lapses, full video, pictures, interviews, etc etc etc etc.

We have a truck (here) in mind (as well as the materials for the rocket and mount and magnetic decals for the sides), and have spoken with the owner about purchasing it. The only problem is, we need moola. $4200 to be exact. We’ve set up a Kickstarter for our project, which is basically a site where people can go and fund various projects. One famous project from Kickstarter was the creation of a hovering Delorean from Back to the Future. The great thing about Kickstarter is every time someone donates, the projecteers (that NEEDS to be a word) can reward people. Our rewards include written name inside the finished truck, DVD and pictures of the documentary, a ride in the truck (if convenient), your own rocket to put on your car, and more. Also, you don’t pay unless the project reaches its amount. For example, if a project’s goal is 100$, and only makes 50$ by the end date, nobody pays anything, and it’s a failure. This is important to know if you want to donate, because it is basically a pledge until the goal is reached.

Anyway, thanks for checking out our stuff, and any help, donations, encouragement, ideas, etc are welcomed. All those who donate (on top of any rewards), you’ll get a shoutout in the documentary and future videos.

This project cannot happen without your help. Please send this to anyone you know who is a fan of Pixar movies (we know you know some people!).

Cool, this is awesome

This is a really cool idea (I actually heard about it earlier today on The Pixar Podcast). I hope you guys are able to reach your goal, but unfortunately being 14 I can’t contribute :frowning:. Good luck though. I wonder what Pizza Planet Truck will think

Is this still happening? I saw that the goal was not met. Are you guys going to try again?

C’mon guys. Finish it for me.

Good news, the project is still happening. We are currently still working on raising funds and planning the road trip itself. The project now has its own site (http://theroadtopixar.wordpress.com/) with weekly updates. Feel free to shoot any questions our way and we’ll answer them asap.

The project also has a twitter (twitter.com/pizzaplanetruck)

Feel free to follow and whatnot. Especially if you’d like sneak peeks at what we’re doing before we post to the blog. Major steps forward next week…

We’ll be rolling out some more stuff over the next two weeks. Stay tuned on the Forth of July.

This has got to be one of the coolest ideas ever. I’m pretty sure the guys at Pixar will love it.

This is great. I’ve always wanted for someone to do this.

This is awesome! Can’t wait to see the finished product.

Wow this is crazy cool! I wish you the best of luck on your quest!

So, we’re a bit behind with updating on the Forth of July but we’ll have some new info up asap.

Here is a link to the vimeo: vimeo.com/pizzaplanettruck
and some videos will be posted to youtube soon.

Thanks for all the support. Feel free to post any questions about the project in this thread and I’ll be sure to answer (without giving too much away)

We have a few new videos up!

In other news we are also going to be attending D23 this upcoming weekend with the partially finished truck. Is anyone planning on going on Saturday the 20th and would like to meet up?

I’m glad the project is coming along swimmingly and I wish you luck at D23!

Guys, that’s awesome. I wish I could do something like that.

Our donation site is now up!
