Simple simple concept! Tell us about some of your favourite scenes in the history of cinema!

You can even post video links to them if you can find them, i thought it’d be nice to see what makes people feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Or sad…let’s just say passionate!

I’ll get us started (Be warned, i’m a big fan of old movies)

I think i’ll start with the more light hearted stuff…Comedies

An iconic scene in a film that sticks out the most in my mind is in E.T. when Elliot and E.T. are flying in front of the moon. Always brings a tear to my eye.

The scene in Toy Story where Buzz tries to fly out the window with the broken arm, but falls down.

The scene in Star Wars where you find out Darth vader is Luke’s father. But Ta-Rust me I’m not a huge Star Wars fan.

Just about any scene in Toy Story 2, Monsters Inc., and Raiders of the lost ark. {Again not the biggest George Lucas fan. }

It’s a Wonderful Life

The greatest movie of all time. My favorite scenes are the “Buffalo gals” song when Mary and George are walking home from the dance and Mary’s robe drops. The other is the ending scene when the whole town comes to help George. Can’t watch that without getting a little teary eyed.

I’ll knock the Star Wars scenes out first.

Duel between Obi-Wan and Anakin - This is more of a “sequence”. but it is my alt-time favortie thing ever put into a film.

Luke looking at the Twin Sun susnet, and Young Owen and Beru holding baby Luke whill watching the sunset. Visually awesome, and poetic

Old Ben giving Luke Anakin’s lightsaber- Do I even need to say why?

Yoda lifting the X-Wing out of the swamp. Best dispaly of Force power in the films.

Anakin becoming Vader, plus Palpatine announcing the formation of the Empire - They both give me chills

The “Order 66” scene - Very tragic and moving

The opening shots of Episode 3 - This was my “Star Wars” moment that people who saw the first film talk about. My jaw literally dropped, and it’s my favorite movie related memory

There’s a few more, but I don’t want people to think I’m too big or a nerd.

The scene in the first Spiderman where they have all the newspapers articles, and people talking about Spidey, plus the nice web-swinging Just a cool scene

Batman’s first “ninja” fight. in the docks I think, in Batman Begins

The end of 3:10 to Yuma. Just Amazing

Atticus Finch cross examining Bob Euwell(sp?) in To Kill a Mockingbird. Actually pretty much any scene with Atticus

Indy sliding under the truck in Radiers of the Lost Ark.

The Old Knight scene in The Last Crusade

“Johnny B. Goode” from Back to the Future

The end sequence in 1955 of Back to the Future

Biff chasing Marty on the skaetboard in Back to the Future

The unveling of the DeLorean in Back to the Future

There are probably literally hundreds of signature sequences in films that I find to be particularly appealing to me… and to the rest of the world, most likely. Heh. However, I’ll just mention one in particular for the moment. Badda-bing:

Mitch, I was so close to putting that on my list, but I figured I had enough Star Wars scenes.

Luke in the Binary sunset is certainly my fave scene in Star Wars.

Serenity

Sadness:
-The ghost children scene in Coraline.

-Dumbo visiting his mother (think it’s just a cartoon? Watch that scene again and just try to keep your eyes dry)

-When She Loved Me, from Toy Story 2

-The Fox and the Hound, when they’re so innocently playing, not knowing they are supposed to be enemies.

-In Lilo and Stitch, when Stitch learns the story of The Ugly Duckling and realizes he can relate.

-In the old Disney Channel Original Movie Pixel Perfect, when Loretta [spoil]enters Sam’s mind and tells her that she’s lucky to be real, and to value being herself over perfection. Soon after, Loretta disappears, and she seems to be gone forever, until in the end Sam and Roscoe realize that she’s an angel now.[/spoil] Disney Channel just can’t live up to those kind of meaningful movies nowadays.

-In The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl, when Lavagirl [spoil]sacrifices her life to save Sharkboy from drowning. [/spoil]

Intensity and Excitement:
-The beginning of Bolt.

-Also sad. Hearing Koda’s side of the story in Brother Bear. (Where Kenai [spoil]realizes he had killed Koda’s mom[/spoil])

-The fight sequences in The Incredibles.

-When Mulan makes her decision to take her father’s place in war

-The last battle in Sky High, especially when sarcastic Magenta [spoil]morphs into a guinea pig![/spoil]

-The opening of Atlantis: The Lost Empire

-A lot of parts in Treasure Planet.

-In Enchanted, when Giselle falls down the well and changes.

-In Holes, all the past scenes that build up the mystery.

-All the cool bedtime stories in Bedtime Stories, and of course, the ending.

-A whole lot of Spy Kids.

-The last fight with the Other Mother in Coraline.

-Fantasia parts

For Fun or Cuteness or Humor:
-In The Lion King, all of Simba and Nala’s childhood shown. They’re so cute!

-A lot of parts in Lilo and Stitch.

-Finding Nemo: All the parts with Dory!

-So many other Classic Disney parts

-Bugsy (Bedtime Stories)

-Hawaiian Rollercoaster Ride (Lilo and Stitch, Stitch is introduced to surfing)

-Watching Remy cook in Ratatouille. It’s adorable!

-Pip’s pantomime in Enchanted.

Yeah, I know a lot of movies.

Toy Story 2 - The recreation of the “unshown episode” in Woody’s Roundup with Woody/Jessie on the wheelbase/axle of the plane! Gripping stuff!

The Incredibles - Tony/Violet at track meet. 'Nuff said.

Finding Nemo - the “I don’t hate you Dad” scene. Hate to accept it, but there’s a little tear in my eye there.

Non-Pixar films:

Oceans’ 12 - When Danny reveals to The Night Fox that, despite his stealthy moves with the lasers and crap, Danny’s team simply swapped the egg in the train. That always cracks me up - so simple yet laughter ensues!

Back To The Future - “1.21 GIGAWATTS?!”

Blast From The Past (I’m a time-travelling fanatic):
Adam: Eve, can I skate around your block?
Troy: (in an implying tone) How about it, Eve, can he skate around your block?

The Ron Clark Story: When Matthew Perry fails at rapping.

Run Fat Boy Run: Love the kid backtalking. Can’t quote him cause he’s a bit crude in that part

I don’t really have any particular favourite scenes as I don’t like to dissect the films I watch. However two scenes that I do like are:

In Ratatouille; Rémy is leaving the sewers and he’s running in the ceiling-space of some houses. He see’s two people fighting over a gun, runs off and then hears a gunshot, when he looks back the pair are kissing. I’m not sure why I like it, the whole scene just has a really ‘French’ feel to it, it’s like an French tv show…

In Wall•e; well, pretty much the whole movie is my favourite scene but one that particularly stands out is right at the end [spoil]after EVE has fixed Wall•e but he has revered to his primary directive[/spoil], that whole scene is so well done, it’s lovely.

Hmm, looks like both my favourite scenes are from Pixar films, guess that shows who the best film studio is…

Oh yeah! What an awesomely wicked fantabulous idea! Here are some of mine (I have, and can, watch these over and over again without getting bored!) maybe you guys have seen and loved a few of 'em:

Wall-E and Eve’s kiss and spacewalk in the “Define Dancing” scene from Wall-E.

Linguini and Collette’s accidental kiss in Ratatouille.

Lightning and Sally’s drive through the forest and past the waterfall in Cars.

Mittens teaching Bolt how to be a real dog in the “Barking at the Moon” montage from Bolt.

Jack and Annie’s escape in each other’s arms from underneath the speeding bus in Speed.

The bus jumping the freeway gap in the “Leap of Faith” scene in Speed.

John McClane diving off the exploding rooftop of a skyscraper in Die Hard.

The pulse-pounding yet hilarious Hummer/Ferrari car chase through San Francisco from The Rock.

Riggs and Murtaugh’s impromptu bomb defusal scene in the opening sequence of Lethal Weapon 3 (“Get the cat!” )

Riggs tricking Murtaugh into flapping his arms like a chicken while in his undies to distract an armed arsonist in the opening sequence of Lethal Weapon 4.

Bond pursuing a bomb-maker (played by real-life freerunner Sebastian Foucan) up and down a half-completed high-rise in the opening sequence of Casion Royale.

Vesper strolling into the casino room in that stunning violet number, distracting Bond momentarily in Casino Royale.

The Joker walking out of an exploding Gotham Hospital in a nurse’s outfit from The Dark Knight.

Marty driving the DeLorean through time for the first time while evading terrorists in Back to the Future (seems like we have a lot of BttF fans here! )

Jason Bourne pushing his battered taxi to the limits in the climatic car chase from The Bourne Supremacy.

Mumble leading the penguins in the “Boogie Wonderland” scene from Happy Feet.

Jack Sparrow and crew overturning a ship with their own body weight in the “Up is Down” scene from Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End.

Jack Sparrow pole-vaulting, then falling off a cliff, crashing through several suspension bridges in the process from Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest.

Simba and Nala rediscovering each other in the “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” scene from The Lion King.

Spirit and Rain courting each other in the “Swimming” montage sequence from Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron.

Chihiro waiting for the train at the station in the middle of the ‘infinite sea’ from Spirited Away.

As you can tell, I’m a sucker for sappy romantic scenes and heart-racing action sequences.

DocKenobi - Aw, man. You should have included it! That’s like… the classic sequence of all classic sequences in Star Wars.

Oh, heck, yeah! I can’t believe I forgot about that one…

That’s true, Mitch, but I gotta say for me, it doesn’t get any more classic than the Binary Sunset. It says so much in just that one shot. Say what you will about George Lucas, but you can’t deny that he is amazing at telling things with visuals.

That’s very true… which is good because he doesn’t have dialogue to back himself up

DocKenobi - Heheh. You do have a point. The shot itself is quite poignant and expressive; nothing quite like it…

Well, heck, yeah. One of the only good things about The Phantom Menace were the visuals and the technological side of it. Absolutely mind-blowing graphics, there were. Lucas definitely has that cut out for him; I only wish he had kept the direction solidifed for the latest trilogy.

But I’m getting off-topic…

I LOVE the scene from the oil industry analogy tragdey film There Will Be Blood when William Bandy finds out that [spoil]Daniel has killed Henry and then Daniel’s Baptism afterwards.[/spoil] Day-Lewis is an acting genius!
