15 years

Ever wonder what those 15 years that passed between the Glory Days and the present were like? How did Bob and Helen manage to raise Vi and Dash while maintaining a secretive lifestyle? How did Edna Mode keep busy with the loss of her super suit responsibilities? How did Buddy Pine rise to power and make an acquaintance with Mirage? And what became of the other supers before their tragic termination (excluding Frozone)?

There’s so much we’ve missed out on! And although we may have some idea as to how things were, we’ve never discussed it in detail.

~~=oP

Well, we know that the Parr family moved quite a lot, the last time being three years prior to the present. This is mostly because they kept blowing cover. (Bob’s fault? Probably. Maybe Dash’s fault a couple of times…)

E kept the bills paid by becoming a designer for the supermodel world, a job she really hates, for reasons covered in the film.

Assuming Buddy was 11 or 12 prior to the lawsuits, I reckon he used his intelligence to rise to become CEO of some arms company, and used the weapons he designed to improve its profitability, and those profits to fund Nomanisad and the Kronos Project. He may have met Mirage during his ascent in this company. I picture her being PA to the prior CEO, or a member of its directing comittee.

Most of the other Supers integrated quietly into society, Gazerbeam being an exception, for he tried to reverse society’s opinion of Supers.

True, true. Like you said about E, these topics were covered in the film, but only enough to tell the story.I wanna know what you guys think happened that we didn’t get to see. For instance, what kind of scenarios do you envision when thinking of how Bob and Helen discovered their children’s powers?

Interesting subject. Umm…

Judging by the somewhat enclosed life-style of the Incredible family after exile from the outside world, things predictably became rather tight. Budget restrictions probably became one of the first major problems for the supers, especially since they had to raise three kids…with super powers attached as an added bonus. Most of their outside assistance more than likely came from Rick Dicker, an old family friend. It’s obvious that they had to relocate quite a few times as well, as Mr. Dicker soon became quite tired of it, as shown in the film.

Then, there was the problem of keeping their powers under control while in public/out in the open. Bob, obviously, had the hardest time of it, blowing his (and his family’s) cover more than once; hence, relocation after relocation. Helen probably had just as difficult of a time with it, and maybe even more so since she was responsible for her children and their powers.

As for the kids:

Well, I imagine Violet probably had a few more anxiety bursts in her lifetime than we saw in the movie, especially as she neared adolescence. However, she soon learned to control her powers to an certain extent: she would use them in public, though sparingly…and only when “necessary”. Dash, on the other hand, used his abilities
recklessly. Which, of course, was expected of him, him being a young boy with nothing else better to do. Besides, what kid that age could contain his enthusiam for doing something that every eight year old boy would dream of doing?
Then, there is Jack-Jack. His powers, previously unknown to the Parr family, are probably more dangerous than all the Parr’s powers combined. What is really scary about this is that he is in control of his powers completely; none of his other family members could tell him to emit or contract his powers whenever necessary. So, in essence, Jack-Jack – at least for the time being – is a bomb just waiting to be lit.

Combing all of these problems together – budget, safety/power restrictions, and children – and those fifteen years sure seem long. Personally, I don’t know how they handled it. If my family every came under that type of pressure…we would probably explode. :stuck_out_tongue:

But, as always, it’s these type of subjects that are the most fun to discuss. Nice topic, PixarVixen!! Sorry for my long ranting on the subject…

I always figured that Violet discovered her invisibility when she was little. I guess she kinda became invisible on accident. Her parents might’ve discovered it possibly on one day where she just vanished and was nowhere to be seen. When she reappeared, that is probably when Helen and Bob found out. Ad for her force field, I think they came when Vi was in grade school. I guess students at her school probably made fun of her and possible threw stuff like paper and spit balls at her. One day, she just formed the force field to protect herself.

I think these some of these questions are better left unanswered.

Back in the “Glory Days” superheroes were the big thing. If you needed help, you would get help from a superhero who would save the day. But as the lawsuit went on, superheroes had to adapt to a new lifestyle and become the new type of heroes of the day. What’s makes the film so great is that a lot of the questions are never fully described to the audience, making the mystery of the superheroes even greater.I’ve always wanted to know
where the superheroes got their powers in the first place. What happens when a former superhero marries a non-superhero? I know Brad Bird and the gang briefly mention it in the commentary, but I want to know more!

Ranting about The Incredibles is gooood. :-D)

Aww. That’s a very sad yet clever idea,
TSS.

True, but it’s still fun to discuss them.

Thanks. I ponder a lot about these things.

Especially with The Incredibles.

Haha – you have a point there!

What do you guys think of

Syndrome and when did he start his project? When was production of the first Omnidroid? How did he purchase the island? How did he meet with Mirage? When did he kill his first Super Hero? Any thoughts, because the same fifteen years had pasted for him too.

I don?t know when Syndrome killed his first superhero but

according to the Incredibles DVD the first superhero he killed was ?Universal Man?.

What I found intresting off of that DVD was the many

Omnidroids Syndrome had to build, test, and let loose. That is a lot of work for fifteen years.

That also shows you the measure of Syndrome’s determination to eliminate every single super.

~~=oP

But in spending 15 years testing and improving each Omnidroid with pitting it aginst each super he managed to track down fed his ego. Its interesting that his shear arrogance got to him that here he would be the only one to “defeat” this machine in public that had killed so many other Supers in private.

Hey, ever wondered what happened to the other characters durring the 15 years? For example, Tony Rydinger?

Ahh, Tony. He grew up into a handsome young man over those 15 years, he did.

Couldn’t resist. ;-p

But in all seriousness, I believe the robber from the Glory Days scene is his dad. Can you NOT see the resemblance?! Of course, that’s what you get when you use Universal Man to model both characters. Heheh. But anyway, Tony probably never knew his dad because he was imprisoned all those years (if you’re actually following my story).

Just look at him! He even has a black turtleneck on! Case closed.

Yes, I’ve been reading that fanfic, TSS. It’s proof that someone else is a believer.

PixarVixen: Are you talking about a fanfic called “Shadow Prince” from a really good fanfiction.net author/friend of mine?

Why yes I am!

That is wonderful to hear. I’ll tell her that you love her story and you are a strong Tony/Violet fan for you.

Sweetness! Thanks!
