2d animated film?

Do you think Pixar should try doing a 2D animated film?

I know it’s obviously not Pixar’s thing, but idk, you think they’d be able to pull it off?
Plus it could shake things up a little for the animation world… to see Pixar do a traditionally animated film? even if it’s just for one film.

I probably wouldn’t mind too much, I like “Your Friend the Rat” which was mostly 2D, albeit stylized. I think they could do it, but honestly, they’re known for their incarnations of the films, that’s more or less what they represent, storytelling in 3D animation. Not saying they couldn’t do it, but I doubt they will. I’d watch it if they did though.

I’d quite like to see it. I don’t think it would be in the style of Disney’s current 2D animation, though, and I can imagine something quite stylized and funky working well, but for a whole feature film…I’m not sure. I don’t think Pixar is known for their 3D storytelling anymore (even if this was once the case) because there are so many other companies about doing a similar thing, but it’s the storytelling itself and the characters within the stories that matter the most, so 2D is a possibility.

This is a difficult one. As ffdude1906 said, they probably won’t do it but if they do I’ll go and see it.

I dunno. I suppose if they really wanted to I certainly wouldnt object. But I am satisfied with them just doing 3D animation.

Blast from the past? I’m okay with that as long the storyline is great. Hmm…

I don’t think that it’s a good idea. People already think of Pixar as a CGI company and I don’t think they would be as willing to accept it. It works fine in credits and shorts, but I think a movie is just too much shaky ground.

1986 - I beg to differ. Most people, from what I know, and what other PPteers had said, is that Pixar is known for it’s broad appeal, it’s rich detail in storytelling and the knack for taking inanimate objects and giving them life, all of which you can do regardless of type of animation.

Also, now being part of Disney and all, I think I can see a Disney Renassiance-type movie if Pixar worked with Disney Animation Studios…

That would be my dream movie! I doubt it would ever happen though. Maybe more like a short or something…

woody - Oh, it could. I mean, wouldn’t Disney like to take advantage of it’s assets?

Well, they do so well making 3D films. Why change? Then again, it is cool for them to explore new heights.

i talked to some of the pixar animators at a festival a few months back. they said there were no plans for 2D animation at pixar as of yet: however, they did say if a particular director felt that the 2D medium would be best for their proposed project, then it was a possibility. they also said they would love to do something like that :stuck_out_tongue:

I think John Lasseter’s involvement with Disney’s The Princess and the Frog can be considered pretty close to them doing that already.

Indeed! With john Lasseter and Brad Bird around it is very likely that Pixar could do a very good 2D animated film. But they are already doing so well with 3D so nothing may happen.

Leave the 2D to Disney, I’ll say, because Pixar is actually IMO the only animation studio who makes amazing CGI. But if Pixar would make a traditionally animated film, I doubt it’ll be a flop.

It would be pretty awesome to see tho.

Yeah, just let Pixar do what they’re good at. Nothing WRONG with 3D.
