This is like the eight time this week that I’ve posted about new animated films, and no one has responded, so someone please answer me! !!!
Okay, the first is a film adaption of the Roald Dahl book the Twits. The second is called Chupacabras, {If that is how you spell it} and the last The Future is Wild.
You know, Valiant was a half-decent film. It wasn’t great, but it certainly had potential. So I don’t get what’s happened to this company, as they started off well but have now turned into spewing out the sort of rubbish that we, as Pixar fans, have learnt to avoid. So no, unfortunately, I don’t have high hopes for their next films either.
I’m not feeling very excited for their upcoming films, as Space Chimps and Happily Never After in my opinion were terrible. It seems like they’re making sequels to their worst films too . I love Roald Dahl books so I hope they don’t screw up The Twits too bad.
Even though it was bad, Space Chimps was improvment from Happily N’ever After. So They probably won’t screw it up to much. If they leave out some bathroom humor for petes sake.
Wow, you really are a bona-fide animation geek aren’t ya, TAMATER? Well, I’m not exactly excited for yet another book-to-film adaptation, especially since so many Roald Dahl stories have already been done (not to mention the upcoming Fantastic Mr Fox). As for The Future Is Wild, isn’t it already a TV show? I remember seeing it a a media exhibition in Singapore, a couple of the animators were discussing its making-of. And it, in turn, was based of a popular book, if I’m not mistaken.
If you can afford it, Sony Vegas is a good option. Or else, get a Mac, cos’ iMovie rules.
Hm… I’ve always wanted to watch Valiant. I should go check it out…
Apart from the uninspiring site design and the posters elliciting no response of awe or wonderment from me whatsoever (I especially dislike Emo Boy), Vanguard Animation doesn’t have a very bright future ahead, sadly…
I mean, the least they could do as a small-timer is at least try to look good. Here are some examples of small-timers from Singapore:

Granted, most of you won’t know of these film and their respective studios’ existence, and their 3-D ain’t as polished as their Western counterparts, but their promotional art at least [i:29n0ol2w]attempts[/i:29n0ol2w] to inspire curiousity (which are what publicity photos are about, really).
These posters, I’m sorry to put in such a harsh way, just doesn’t make me give a d*mn.
I just hope Vanguard does something good with The Zabajaba Jungle and Petro Pirates (I swear, I’ve seen that font before, was it on a video game or something?) because at least those look remotely interesting. I’ve heard of their work on The Future is Wild though, it’s a TV show that some Singaporean animators are also working on.
Just as an update here…it looks like the CG projects possibly in development at Vanguard might be Alien Rock Band and, more tenuously, Rotten Island (William Steig) and Buzby (fruitflies!).
On a more basic level, though…is Vanguard even a going concern at all? Not sure what their previous model was–maybe management/development only and hire out for the animation. Maybe there never was an “in-house” Vanguard animation team. There doesn’t seem to be one now, but it’s impossible to tell from their opaque and neglected Web presence. Maybe it’s just management and income from video sales anymore.
I like Vanguard’s funky logo. Will it unfurl once more?
From the above link: "‘I have been attracted to the slate of existing and new ideas that are coming out of Vanguard,’ says Stevenson. ‘I have had a great time working with John Williams and the gifted creative teams involved in these projects.’”
