5th October?! Lame!

According to

Buena Vista’s UK Site, Ratatouille’s

not coming to the UK until October 5th, instead of July 27th. Huh?! That’s over two extra months of waiting!

Dangit, that was gonna be the third highlight of my summer! Oh well, at least I still have Q-Con and

Deathly Hallows to look forward to… :frowning:

But still, why this big gap in

release date compared to that of Cars or The

Incredibles? They were only a month behind America’s release. Admittedly Finding

Nemo and even Toy Story were five months behind, but it’s still

annoying. :frowning:

GAH! Seriously? But why? Usually, the films that do badly are the ones that take ages to come

over here, not the ones that are most likely going to do very well! This doesn’t make sense!

But, as you

said RMS, this has happened before. It also happened with MI- it was released in the USA in November, but we got

it around February. But Cars and The Incredibles are two of Pixar’s latest films, and we didn’t have to wait as

long for those ones- why have they suddenly changed the trend? This is SO annoying.

Hmm… Well, I feel really sorry for you guys! :frowning:

Maybe it’s copyright issues?

Hmm…Well, there weren’t issues like that

before. It’s so annoying when they do this and they don’t even give a proper reason.

No kidding? Man, that must really suck for you guys – I’m sorry you have to go through the

torture; it must be horrible!

On the plus side, at least you know it’s coming. You’ll have to wait a

little longer but you will get to see it.

But if it’s in October, that’s like

in a school term as well, meaning we won’t have as much time to see it than if it were in the summer

holidays…But yeah, I guess you’re right, Mitch, although it does mean that when it comes out for you guys,

those of us who are not in America will have ignore most of the conversations in the Ratatouille forum!

Haha – yeah, more for us Americans!

We get to see it first. :stuck_out_tongue:
But enough with the bragging on my part. I must

restrain myself. (snigger)

I forgot about the summer holidays deal, as I’m homeschooled and can

take breaks whenever I want. So yeah – I see what you’re saying. Maybe you could ask for a week off from school

so that you can go see Ratatouille:stuck_out_tongue:

Or fly over

here and see it!

Yeah that must stink. I remember talking to one of my

British friends the year Nemo came out. It was October and I was telling her about the dvd and she goes

“Nemo just came out over here” and I’m like "What? the dvd’s already out over there??? No

fair!" and she says “No, the movie just got released over here” and I’m like

“ooooooooooh” :stuck_out_tongue:

…Now if you look over there on Upcoming Pixar it says you poor Austrailians have to wait too!!!

I feel

really sorry for you guys. That sucks! :frowning:

In France, Ratatouille opens August 1th…
That’s suck !

Apparently, the reason for all of

this is that since certain places, such as Australia and the UK. speak the same language as America and therefore

do not have to be dubbed over, they can just send the reels from America to Australia and the UK and use them all

over again, rather than spending more money on creating more reels.

Though it’s still not a good enough

excuse. I’m sure they’ll loose more money from people downloading the film instead of going to the cinema to

watch it, than from copying the reels. :unamused:

Sky -

First of all, welcome to Pixar

Planet! I really love your avatar.

Secondly, I “dugg” the said article on

Upcoming Pixar just a few days back…and voiced my opinion(s) on the matter as

well.

I am also upset concerning the fact that overseas countries and continents have to wait an extra 2-5

months (depending on location) to view the film, even though I reside in America. Hopefully, the companies

(Disney specifically) will rethink their decision and release the production at an earlier date for such areas as

Australia and the United Kingdom. And if they won’t do it for Ratatouille, then

perhaps they’ll do it for future Pixar films – such as WALL-E – …like you

stated.

lizardgirl - That’s the lamest excuse I’ve ever heard. It only

takes them a few more bucks and time to send the reels over. Sheesh. :stuck_out_tongue:

And even if it did save Disney a few $$$ by just reusing the

reels over and over again in other English speaking countries, is it really worth frustrating Pixar’s

international fans by making them wait up to 5 months???

And I agree, how much money would Pixar be

losing by people just saying “oh, stuff it” and then they go download it instead because they either

don’t want to wait, or they wait to make a point to Pixar, and hit them where it hurts- in the hip pocket, just

to prove a point.

I have a feeling that it was Disney’s choice rather than Pixar’s. I’m sure if John

Lasseter realised how much of an issue it is for us fans (both local and international) and depending on how much

we get behind the issue, he would be the one to rethink how they approach

international release dates.

Oh, and thanks to everyone who has “dugg” the article already.

Well, I don’t know exactly why this happened, but you guys: I’m sure Disney spends millions

of dollars in research deciding these things. So I don’t know, maybe they want to wait after another big movie

that’s coming out in July to get more BANG, so to speak. Maybe they see these countries as a hard market to

sell, and waiting for for the US to lead the way. Heck, maybe they think Ratatouille will do well in a certain

season and postponing it until then.

I’m not saying any of these things are true – maybe event the

opposite is happening – but you gotta remember: their trying to make a living, and their going to choose the

time that they think is best.

However, Man I feel sorry for you! Arghh! :frowning:

Gasduude - Ohh…I think I

get it now! Let me see if I can summarize this up correctly:

The longer Disney chooses to

let the film “drag out” from one country to another, the more money they’ll

get.

In other words, once the film finishes playing in one country…it will continue to

play in another. Heh – well, I have to admit that that technique (if that is, indeed, what they’re doing) is

rather clever…in a crude and inhumane kind of way. (snigger)

When will Italy

get it? I just realized I’ll be there on vacay when Ratatouille hits theaters (in the US).

Mitch - Well, yes…do you blame 'em? What I’m saying is it sucks for those

unfortunate Pixar fans – but not everybody in the world is a Pixar fan either; and Disney knows this.

Gasduude - Nah, I don’t

really blame 'em…much. And yeah, there are some non-Pixar fans, but there are

alot of people who do love the studio and its films…so there will be many

disappointed peeps. Oh well. That’s Disney for ya’, but like I said…I probably shouldn’t blame them too

much.

Apparently, they’re releasing it in the half-term; a time when people in the UK generally go to the cinema

more, since even in the month of October, the weather isn’t that great over here. In the summer, people just

don’t go to the cinema because we have to make the most of the good weather that we get. I can see how Disney

will make more money from this method, though it is still a pain.
