A Lesson In Lines

Never underestimate popularity.

Yesterday was the day I attended the Fabulous Food Show at the I-X Center in Cleveland. I wanted to meet celebrity chef Alton Brown during his 3:15 book signing, so I arrived with my mom nearly an hour early. The line was already UNBELIEVABLE. It was 10X the line for Sarah Vowell. No fooling. We barely moved 3 feet before being dismissed.

Who knew the star of a show like Good Eats was so popular? Not that I’m degrading the show, because I love it.

Anyway, I thoroughly enjoyed Alton’s 5:00 show. Karma treated me to a row change when Alton invited us to fill up empty seats in the front, from O to D. Hot dog!

His show ended with the announcer promising the audience a second opportunity for autographs, which we were denied after lining up. :imp:

I know I can try again to meet Alton Brown, but not all celeb moments reoccur. Learn my lesson, kiddies.

That sounds like quite an experience PV. I think I learned from this. Wierd, I always come at least one hour early to exciting events like you do. Now I might need to change it to two hours.

Great balls of fire. I knew that Mr. Brown was popular but I didn’t know that he was that well-known…

That’s wonderful that you at least got to see the dude, even if you missed an opportunity to meet him.

Thank you for sharing your experience and a couple of pictures with us, PV! I especially love the first one, as it reminds me of the Star Wars Celebration IV event that took place last May (or…was it March?). The place looked just like that. :stuck_out_tongue:

PV’s experience reminded me of my friend, who is obsessed with video games, did during a VG expo to play a highly anticipated game or something like that. He went there an hour early and the line was huge. Worse part, it got bigger as the hours rolled in. So, many hours, he waited and by the time it was his turn, they all had to call it a day!
