A little advice, please... =)

Hey, I was just wondering if you guys could tell me your taughts on high school, 'cause i’m gonna be there in 1 year so y’know…
And please don’t tell me it’s like middle school, because i’m in France so it’s not the same system !

well high school in the great UK starts from 13, It is a little different from “primary school (5-12)”

How old will you be?

15… And wow i didn’t know that in the UK it was so different ! :open_mouth:

It really depends on how it works in your own country. Here, High Schools are big, scary (especially so if they’re single sex) and can be difficult to deal with. If your High School has a uniform, that usually simplifies things a little. The lessons are more interesting, but if I had to compare College to High School, I’d say I prefer College because I feel like I’m treated as an adult here. But in comparison to Primary School, I’d say High School is better- the social life can be very good, and you start finding out what your key interests and strengths are academically.

But, of course, this is all very subjective.

Well i’m talking about the US…I wanted to know if it’s like in the movies, etc ! :stuck_out_tongue:

i highly doubt it.

I have to admit, I’ve always wondered that too. You see all these American programmes which show the schools as these amazingly clean, colourful, bright places and it all seems too good to be true. :stuck_out_tongue:

very cliché, but that’s america.

I’ve never been to France before, but in America, high schools are crap. Actually, all schools (except preschool and college) are crap.

Don’t get me started unless you want a thousand-word post.

Actually, High school can be called your home if you find your place. Sure there are some bad spots, but if you find one area that you love and stick with it, you’ll find a family and a good time.

High school gives you more freedom. MOre than Middle school. I’ll tell you that.

Really ?! I didn’t think that at all.
Amazing how films and stuff could fool you …

Do students study in universities or colleges? I keep getting confused.

Well, in movies, there are many different views of High School life.

I’m in Canada, so even our system differs from the states.

We have Elementary [k-6] then Jr. High [7-9] and then High school [10-12].

Personally, I hated school altogether. I started out last year in high school, but had to switch to online schooling because I hated it so much. I’ve never had a good year in school for many personal reasons =/ That’s just MY personal experience though. ^^;;

But like TSS said, just find the right place for you and you’ll do fine. =]

High school is amazing. I’m a senior this year. I’m an AP kid. The homework load is intense, but the accompanying privileges are fantastic. My best advice: Don’t be afraid of your teachers. They want you to succeed. Visit them after school to have them help you with homework and go over tests. Get to know them. If nothing else, they’ll be writing your letters of recommendation for college. If they know you put in extra effort, they’ll put in the extra effort. My other best advice: Get involved. Clubs, sports, tutoring, anything you can find. Make a name for yourself. Don’t be afraid to try new things; it’s not too late. I started playing water polo this year. Even though I’m really bad at it, it’s a blast!

Amen to everything you said swimchick. So Pixar.rocks, you follow her advice (as well as make good decisions), you will have a fun time in High School.

Alright thanks guys !

As for Abbervail Dream You go to from 10 to 12 what do you do after that ? :open_mouth:

Pixar.Rocks: Well, college is right after HIgh school.

LOL I’ve been a freshman mentor for the past two years, as well as a tutor [and more!]. I give my whole little spiel to everyone who’s about to go into high school.

It’s fun. Don’t slack off. I’m serious about getting to know your teachers. I didn’t do it so much my freshman year, but starting sophomore year, I had trouble with math, so I would spend at least two or three afternoons a week with my teacher going over homework to make sure I understood everything. Now I’m taking AP Calculus BC. Around AP’s last year, there were days that I had so many study and review sessions that I wouldn’t get home from school until past 10pm. It was worth it. My lowest AP score is a 4 (out of 5).

SwimChick: Hmmm, you sounds ilke a really intelligent person.
