I mean what does this stand for?
It’s used in Pixar movies but what exactly dose it mean?
I mean what does this stand for?
It’s used in Pixar movies but what exactly dose it mean?
According to a wikipedia
article:
A113
Main article: A113
Similar to George
Lucas’ 1138 and Al Hirschfeld’s “Nina”, the letter-number sequence A113 is an animation in-joke which
appears in all Pixar films to date. It is a reference to one of the room numbers at CalArts (which several of the
employees attended).
[edit] Cameo appearances
Every Pixar film has included cameo appearances of
characters or objects from their other movies or short films. Please see those films’ individual pages for
examples.
[edit] Release: exclusive outtakes and shorts
Three of the Pixar films featured exclusive
outtakes. Each of the outtakes in A Bug’s Life, Toy Story 2, and Monsters, Inc. had to be created from scratch,
using the same actors and actresses in the film. Many of the jokes and mess ups were actually suggested by the
actors themselves. The outtakes are not only available with the purchased VHS/DVD of these films, they are also
available online at Pixar.com[1]. According to the director’s commentary on the Finding Nemo DVD, after
Monsters, Inc. Pixar stopped adding outtakes to their films, feeling there wasn’t much more they could do with
them.[9]
Three films (Cars, Monsters, Inc., and The Incredibles) were released on DVD with a short film
made specifically for the DVD. The DVDs also include the short films that were released with each movie’s
theatrical release.
Wow, that was
some very valueble info TSS
There is always a cameo of this 4 digit code in every Pixar movie. One must find it.
Sometimes, it is just right in front of our faces.
CarFreak - You as a Cars fan would probably like to
know that A113 apears as Mater’s own liscense plate, and somewhere else, I believe. Pretty cool! ![]()
The Star Swordsman provided the perfect link to explain the
mystery behind the “A113” in-joke…
The number appears in several places in all, or most, of
the Pixar films, I believe. As Gasduude pointed out, it is featured on Mater’s
license plate. It can also be seen on the front of the train that Lightning McQueen “raced” against
along Route 66.
Thanks Mitch.
I
noticed that the A113 joke appears more than once in some films. For example, in the Incredibles. 113 is
mentioned by Mirage in Mr. incredibles sweet room place, and it is also his cell block number.
Mitch - Ah, yes I remember
now, the train.
But Pixar isn’t only place you can find it: Brad Bird had it in The Iron
Giant as well.
A113 was used back before
The Iron Giant. In Brad Bird’s Family Dog (the 1985
episode of Amazing Stories, not the cartoon series), it was the license plate number
on the robbers’ car. ![]()

The Star
Swordsman - You’re welcome. And yeah, I forgot that it was the number of Mr. Incredibles’ guest
room. Heheh – I knew it was in The Incredibles somewhere, I just didn’t remember
where. ![]()
Gasduude - Haha – cool. Where is it featured in The
Iron Giant, if I may ask?
PixarVixen - Aha – it is? I’ll
have to check that out! I haven’t watched that little short in years, but I laugh like crazy every time I see
it. (snigger)
Mitch - Oh, I wasn’t looking for it the times I
saw it – I just read this stuff on Wikipedia and
IMDB…
PixarVixen would probably know.
And I do! ![]()
A113 is the
license plate number on a car the giant has taken a bite out of. The 3 has been eaten.

I’ll try to snap a screen shot of the A113 example
in Family Dog.

It doesn’t matter if the 3 was off. At least we now know where to find it. I wouldn’t have
guessed it.
PixarVixen - Oh, awesome! Thanks for the screenshots,
PV! ![]()
(heehee) Yeah,
thanks PV! ![]()
Thank PV!!!
I’m not surprised!!! ![]()
A113? I don’t know. Never heard of it before. ![]()
Ha ha ha! Really funny there A113.
So where did A113 appear in Ratatouille? Did anyone spot it?
