Creature Comforts.
Chicken Run. Wallace and Gromit. Seen these? They’re all creations of Aardman Studios. I consider them to be the
Pixar of the claymation medium. Their stuff is well scripted and very funny. Personally, I’m looking forward to
Flushed Away. It oughta make an interesting Best Animated Feature battle at the Oscars: Cars or Flushed
Away?
For all those who do like a bit of Gorgonzola, this is the thread for you!

True, but you had
to admire Nick Park’s attitude, namely (paraphrasing) "Pictures can be redrawn, plasteceine re-moulded, but
people can’t be replaced. Nobody was hurt, so I’m thankful."
Nice to see humility in the
entertainment industry.
Flushed Away is interesting, because it’s a CG movie, but the way the characters
speak, it looks like it’s done in claymation. I have every confidence they’ll walk away with a blockbuster.
Slightly worrying for the Cars fan in me is they’ll also walk away with Best Animated Feature. Aardman vs Pixar
will be very interesting.
Aardman’s probably my second favourite movie company
after Pixar. Not only do they use their medium exceedingly well, but their stories are intelligent and
heartwarming, and their characters are brilliant.

Aardman is the only other animation studio out there, besides Pixar, that has as of yet failed to disappoint
me (although I’m a bit worried about Flushed Away). Chicken Run is one of my favorite movies and I ADORE the
Wallace and Gromit shorts.
How could you NOT love Wallace & Gromit? Gromit is the
perfect example that you don’t need a razor sharp script with snappy one liners. His expressions are
perfect.
My favourite would have to be The Wrong Trousers especially when
Feathers McGraw (the penguin) takes off his glove: “Good grief! It’s you!” CotWR is a close second,
and deserved its Oscar with no dispute.
Slight off-topic: It’s funny how Ralph Feinnes and Helena Bonham
Carter will be re-united in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.
I wonder what the product of a
creative brainstorm between John Lasseter, Brad Bird and Nick Park would be. Probably award-winning.
