Academy Awards 2012

There were technical aspects it could have got, but obviously it didn’t deserve Animated Feature or Screenwriting, as previous Pixar efforts.

I also agree that the foreign animated films aren’t fillers, so…

Same, I was pretty stunned (and miffed) too. It just seemed a shoe-in, but I think at the end of the day they’ve stuck to their guns on motion capture.
Speaking of which, Andy Serkis goes unrecognised again :frowning:

He always will.

So motion capture isn’t animation, but it isn’t live action either, so it can’t get acting awards… or live action technical nods either, for that matter (unless you’re [i:1x6gjqmz]Avatar[/i:1x6gjqmz], of course) :-\

So let me get this straight; the only logical reason I can think of for Tintin’s snub is because of it’s mocap, because as e-j-e pointed out, it’s a well reviewed film by a very respected director from a very famous and nostalgic source, which has just won the Golden Globe. So, okay, unless a large chunk of animators have some kind of vendetta against Spielberg, mocap is officially not animation.
Yet when Avatar was nominated for a ton of stuff, and in the case of Andy Serkis is, well, everything mocap he’s done, they didn’t nominate them for acting because apparently mocap, despite being described as digital makeup of sorts, is not live action acting either.
I’m not suggesting that mocap needs it’s own category, i’d just like some more clarity.

In my opinion, it should be classified as animation and that would make things fairer.

What would you guys say La Luna’s chance’s are of winning?

Well, noting the fact that none of us has seen La Luna, I think we aren’t entitled to opine.

Anyway, the reception seems to be amazingly good, so I suppose it stands a theoretic chance.

I think it’s the only thing that will win an Award. Seem’s Car’s 2 will not get anything.

The Muppets seems like a lock to win Best Original Song, but anything is possible.

I liked the Rio song that was nominated. In fact I liked most of them.

As i said in another thread, I’m not surprised at all that Cars 2 got snubbed. But I am a bit surprised that there are only 2 nominations for best song this year, but it will be hilarious to see “Man or a Muppet” performed live. As far as visual effects go I think Planet of the Apes has this in the bag.

Yes, an Oscar nomination for Bret McKenzie! I won’t be disapointed if that song or the one from Rio win, they’re both great.

I liked how Bridesmaids got a couple nods.

Me too, specially after Newman scolded them last year.

And I liked Bridesmaids and all, but I think it’s nominations were a little undeserved, because there were better contestants in both categories.

I’ll probably be posting some predictions in a couple days.

Have you seen most of the films?

No, but it can’t hurt to predict who I think will win right?

Yes, of course. Just wanted to know.

Oh, alright.

Good to know The Smurfs got nothing.

Did you doubt that for a second?
