Academy Awards 2012

I was suggested on another board to create this.

I know it’s too early yet, but we can talk about some things, like Brett Ratner and Eddie Murphy quitting as producer and host of the ceremony and, the best of all, Billy Crystal stepping in.

Cheers for this thread, SoA

Billy Crystal! I’m really pleased he’s stepping in! He’ll be a laugh.

Anybody seen a film this year so far that seems “Best Picture Worthy”?

Well, potential nominees are Moneyball, 50/50, The Artist, and Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy. Maybe you could include Drive and Martha Marcy May Marlene (which could earn a Best Actress nomination as well).

But I think the eventual winner of a lot of awards will be The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, simply because there are a lot of factors to take in account.

On the other hand, it could be like J. Edgar and fall short of its expectations.

I don’t see Pixar winning anything this year except maybe Best Animated Short Film

How? Maybe if La Luna had been released this year, but now…

Well I don’t see Cars 2 winning.

I think “Best Animated Film” is kind of a lock as far as nominees go. My best bet for that award would be Rango.

I know that, but I was asking how they would win Best Animated Short Film.

Hawaiian Vacation was subpar. Unless Small Fry is actually good, of course.

Yeah, I see one of them winning it.

I actually hope Cars 2 doesn’t win, as it would seriously diminish the credibility of the awards and judges.

^Yeah, and same would happen with Hawaiian Vacation.

I know it’s loved on this forums, but come one… Cars 2 was great when compared to it.

While I loved Cars 2 and Hawaiian Vacation I don’t really see them winning.

For best picture, I can see it being:

  1. Moneyball
  2. The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo
  3. The Help
  4. War Horse
  5. Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy
  6. 50/50
  7. The Ides of March
  8. We Need To Talk About Kevin
  9. Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close
  10. Midnight In Paris

My wildcards, who I don’t think will get nominated but you never know:

  1. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2
  2. Super 8
  3. The Tree Of Life
  4. The Adventures of Tintin
  5. Drive

Either way, there’s an awful lot of adapted material this year

Who do you guys see winning Best Score?

That one is too early to tell.

But I need John Williams to be nominated.

Have they said who’s hosting it?

Yeah, I put it on my first post: Billy Crystal.

QED: Best news ever.

oh, that’s sounds cool.

Well, I know I’m a little older than most people here, so I’ll share a piece of information: Billy Crystal has been the best Oscar host ever. He’s the quintessential host.

Look forward to the ceremony and be excited about it.

He’ll probably be quite funny.
