I thought it would be interesting to find out some of the ages of the characters we all know and love.
So I think Lightning was probably born somewhere in the 80’s,which would put him at the same age as Linguini and Colette, and Sally. That’s akward there all around the same age.
Interesting topic of discussion! I’ve often wondered about the ages of certain Pixar characters, though to take a guess that comes out exact is, obviously, fairly difficult in the long run. There’s no harm in taking a shot at it, however, so I think I’ll do so and pick…er…Ratatouille…
Remy: 17-18 Emile: 15-16 Django: 40+
Linguini: 19-22 Colette: late 20s (as was confirmed in the original script) Skinner: 30+ (no more than 40 I would wager) Gusteau: Unsure; possibly 40+ Anton Ego: Early or late 60s Horst: 35-40+ LaRousse: 30-40 Lalo: 26-27+ Pompidou: 35+ Francois Dupuis: 25-35 Talon Labarthe: 40-50 Ambrister Minion: 40+ Mabel: 70+
Once again, these are simply educated guesses and may or may not be entirely correct. The only way to find out for sure is to hunt for characters’ ages in the original script, browse Ratatouille-related books dealing with one or some of the entities mentioned, or, better yet, ask a Pixar employee/Brad Bird…if the chance arises.
As far as elders go, I’d wager that the oldest Pixar character would be either Geri (Geri’s Game and Toy Story 2), Mabel (Ratatouille), the Queen (A Bug’s Life), that old ant guy…whose name escapes me (A Bug’s Life), or Doc Hudson (Cars). (Although, Doc Hudson doesn’t seem that old to me, so he may not qualify). Again, it’s anybody’s guess.
I did read in “Disney Adventures” magazine that Buddy Pine(as an adult)was supposed to have been 25, so yeah, he was really young(to ME, anyway). He was supposed to have been 10 when he tried to become Mr. Incredible’s side-kick.
By perhaps a coincidence, Randall Boggs was also supposed to have been 25 at the time that the events in Monsters, Inc. went down. That information can be deduced from a factoid in the “Monsters, Inc. 2003 Annual”, in which it is revealed that the All-Time Scare Record was set back in 1963 by “Fangs” McDonald, and that this event took place 13 years before Randall was born, which would have put his birthday somewhere in the year 1976. The date on the newspaper he’s carrying in the movie was November 4, 2001.
No age is mentioned for either Sulley or Mike, though I’d guess them both to be 40-ish. Mike displays many of the symptoms of Male Mid-Life Crisis Syndrome, so that would be about right! Celia Mae’s age listed on her “stats” card on the back of this little kiddie activity book I have (somewhere) is “None of your business”, lol!
Dash is 10, and Violet is 14. You can hear it in the commentary. Sally has to be over 22, because that’s how old you have to be to be an attorney in Arizona.
The Star Swordsman - A113 is right in that Violet is fourteen years of age, as I also knew about that from, not the commentary, but a book that highlighted the Parr family.
pitbulllady - So Randall is basically in his 20s? He’s alot younger than I thought. Perhaps it’s his stressed-out demeanor that makes him come across as an older individual…?
Stress will do that to ya, that’s for sure(voice of experience)! It’ll make you act and FEEL older, anyway. Even before I read that particular bit of information, I’d had Randall pegged for someone in his mid-late 20’s, based on MY experiences at that age. He’s at that point where he’s still got a lot of kid youthful ambition and drive, and still has some little vestige left of big dreams, but they’re really getting screwed over by an unhealthy dose of older adult cynicism that reality too-often brings about. I think that he was probably starting to feel that all the hard word and effort and sacrifice weren’t going to get him the Monster World equivalent to the Good Life after all, but were simply for the purpose of keeping the bill collectors and creditors from the door. Couple with what he was going through, that’ll age somebody pretty darn fast.
Well, counting car years wouldn’t be that hard…except for McQueen. Lightning’s model isn’t based on a real model at all; it was made up in 2006, so he’d be 0? Oh, well.
Also, how do the cars grow up? We can clearly see a child car, so how do they grow up? Are their engines transferred to bigger models?

Yeah, but that doesn’t mean you have to do it too, A113.
I think we discussed how cars grow up somewhere in the Cars section of the forum, but I guess we can only speculate since Pixar don’t really tackle the issue in the film.
I think Cars don’t age by years, I think it has to do with mileage or something. That’s an assumption but it makes sense because cars are machines and essentialy don’t “age” like humans do.
martni: I think I understand your theory. So if you are saying that age goes with the Cars mileage, then there comes a point where they have gone for too much mileage huh? Meaning, the more they drive, the older they get?
TSS- To qoute Edna Mode…
EXACTLY!
But they could get fixed…
Or in Stanley’s case “die”.
The reason I think this is because you could have a car from the 60’s that’s never been driven in perfect condition, good as new, OR a car from 2000 that needs a new battery, is broken down etc.
