Al-Bob's Crazy Theories and Questions...

I’m a person who loves to debate and think about really hard subjects…thus my addiction to the beggining, purposes in life, and my firm belief in christianity (nothing to do with this thread)…

So i want to start just a signle thread about ideas i come up with and have questions about.

Example-Are cats really evil or do they just know something…

I’ll keep getting new ones every month just to let you help me debate them…keep up i move really fast.

Okay here’s the question for December…

Is it better for a plane to fly into a 10MPH wind or away from it? and why?

Good idea for a thread, Al-Bob. As for the question, I’d probably say away from it as the wind will, I guess, make it go even quicker, but it also depends on the aerodynamics of the plane. Either way, considering how fast most planes fly, I’m not sure if a 10mph wind would make a massive amount of difference. It might do, but I’m not one hundred percent on that.

Here’s the problem…
1-If you go against the wind you have wind resistance…bad
2-But if the wind is strong enough the plane’s wings will actually be lifted off the ground due to the wind…good.

So where is the line between resistance and lift??

Strange… :-\

considering the plane travels at 567MPH, 10MPH won’t make a difference.

take off :-\ …not flying in the sky.

Right as the plane is taking off the idea becomes a tricky one.

I see what you mean, Al-Bob and yes, there’s a point where the force of the lift that the wind is creating is actually bigger than the force of the resistence. It depends on the sizes of the forces- how much life would a 10mph wind provide, and how much resistance- as well as how fast the plane is accelerating, so to answer this question, I think it’d be fair to say that we don’t know unless more variables are given.

ugh…same result.

Its a brain teaser…

Okay…here is anopther question that i thought of sometime ago…

When were Christmas lights started? In the United States today a whole load of problems and work is spent putting up lights that are just to be taken down some weeks later. So when did we start that tradition?

I think the tradition of puting up lights started in the middle ages. They put up candles to light the world for Jesus. Of course now it’s just a way to double your electric bill.

Sounds logical…when were the first electrical lights put on houses?

I’m not completly sure but I would guess sometime in the late 1800’s or early 1900’s. That was about when they made more efficient light bulbs.

just how i thought…

sometime around the electric bulb being redone and strengthened. That is when they most likely did it…

Okay…here is January’s list…

Define open-mindedness in your opinion? Because one can only be “open-minded” if they reflect your opinions or wants…true

What do your emergency vehicles sound like in Japan, Britian, etc.? Are they different at all?

Do you have/like speeding cameras?

What are Europeon Keyboards like? How do Japanese people type?
take off :-\ …not flying in the sky.

Into the wind in all but a small number of situations. Into the wind will mean a quicker lift off.

Interesting ideas, Al-Bob.

 1. Actually, I’d define ‘open-mindedness’ as being willing to consider another person’s thoughts and opinions. If you then decide you still don’t agree, it doesn’t mean you’re not open-minded, because you’ve given it a chance.

 2. Well, to tell you that, I’d have to know what they sound like in America. But yes, as far as I’m aware, there is a difference in their sounds, at least, that’s what I’ve found when I’ve visited foreign countries. I do remember hearing an American police car siren on a programme once, and it sounded a lot slower than they do over here.

 3. Yes, we have speed cameras, though they’re certainly not very popular.

 4. I’m assuming by European, you mean foreign language European? Even then, I can’t see why the keyboards would be any different. European languages do tend to have the same bas alphabet, so there’s no reason for it to be any different. I think the most common keyboard in the world is the QWERTY type, though there is another type that I can’t remember the name of right now. No idea about typing in Japanese, though. I can’t even begin to understand how the language works on paper, because despite its beauty, it looks very complicated!

OKay…we have solved one question

Flying into the wind will create more resistance but much more lift which is better. Into the wind it is…

FONY
Yah…Japanese keyboards…what do they look like? Do they type or do they have writting places? Do they have to use English keyboards?

Also about the sirens…I know that here we have sounds but in other places no sound is used. But in places like Australia or France are the sirens louder…more waily…more blastful?

We have speed cameras all over the place here in Arizona…we are the leader in them. Most people hate them but i think that it’s a good way to make sure you don’t speed…

Open mindedness to me is not rejecting an idea simply because it doesn’t much with your pre-held beliefs. Being willing to change your stance on a topic if you are presented with strong evidence by people experienced in their profession, even if it means having to re-think your position. With that last sentence, if you are open-minded, it means having to think about things from a perspective in spite of it challenging your beliefs. Only being open to new ideas if they match with your original way of thinking is not open-mindedness at all.

Well in Australia they sound like “WEEEEEEE-OOOOOOH”. Kinda hard to convey through text. There are about 3 different settings for ambulances, from long and drawn out, to fast, depending on the situation. I also think the design of the siren is meant to spread as far as possible and to bounce off of as many things as possible. Not sure how they do this.

Yes we have speeding cameras here. You better believe it. Do I like them? I’m indifferent, but I don’t think they should be banned. Of course I wouldn’t like them so much if I was caught and fined for going 3 kms over the limit (but I think there is a 2 km buffer zone…), but as long as you don’t speed, you have nothing to worry about.

With their fingers, I guess. :sunglasses:

Here we go- atmancomputer.com/catalog/im … oard_l.jpg

Strange how they have the alphabet that we use on the keys as well.
