All Good Things Must Come To an End

I guess it was inevitable, but I was one who likes to hold out some hope. Craig McCracken today informed those of us on the Never Forgotten Foster’s Home Community that after this, the sixth season, ends, “Foster’s Home For Imaginary Friends” would cease production. Cartoon Network has an iron-clad policy of not permitting more than six seasons of ANY original series, no matter how successful and popular it is, and would not make the exception for Foster’s. Craig promised us that the show would go out “with a bang”, and there were lots of funny episodes ahead for this season(which has only had one episode so far), but that already at this point, the show’s writers were struggling to come up with new and original material that was not repeating earlier stuff, so I can understand that decision. I just really, really hate to see it end.

Aww, and just when I was getting into Foster’s… I always seem to jump onto the bandwagon too late. Heheh.

I didn’t even know about Cartoon Network’s 6 year policy. I suppose it’s so that series don’t get too stale and start repeating themselves, which it seems is what was starting to happen to the show, according to you. I know I’d rather see a show stop during it’s prime and have a set of great series from start to finish, than a show that just keeps dragging on and you can tell it’s still being made for the wrong reasons: money… yeah just for money, really. coughthesimpsonscough

At least there is DVD so we can enjoy it for years to come. And I’m sure CN will re-run the hell out of this show. Heh. I also can’t wait to see what Craig McCracken comes up with next. Onwards!

In the words of Blooregard Q, Kazoo:

“Come Oooooon!”

To think that TV today, (not just CN but Nick and DC as well) would rather come up with more and more unorignal crap instead of hiring “fresh” writers to help a sucessful story stay afloat.

If this was the same exact case with all cartoons, the “Spongebob era” would be wrapping up very soon. But knowing the the power of a dollar sign, I highly doubt this is the case.

sighs nothing we can do about it now…
This is like Angry Beavers, and Invader Zim all over again…

Well, looking on the bright side, I agree with Rachelcakes at the same time, hopefully Mr. McCraken can continue to entertain with originality…:-D)

(Patiently waits to collect all possible DVD releases)

Awwww!! =( That’s one of the few TV shows I have time for nowadays. xP

So sad to see it go! Too bad they didn’t sign on with Nickelodeon - FOP is onto it’s 7th season.

Stupid that they don’t make an exception for a popular show - ya get more money peoples! So continue! :stuck_out_tongue:

Nick USED to have a FOUR season limit to its original shows, which is why shows like “Ahhh! Real Monsters”" and “Angry Beavers” stopped production at that point. I don’t know, maybe it was Spongebob who made them realize that axing a popular show just because it has reached some limit of its seasons was like killing the goose that laid the golden eggs. Obviously, Cartoon Network hasn’t gotten that message, yet.

I still hope that Craig isn’t going to just abandon the show’s characters after the production stops. He’s put up a few Foster’s comics and original drawings on his Deviant Art site, and I really like his more “organic” style than that of the actual show, plus, without the constraints put on him by the network, he’s got more freedoms to go a bit further with character development and plots than was allowed in a half-hour episode supposedly aimed at kids aged four to ten. And then, there’s hope that there will be more DVD’s, and those will likely include more original material.

This is rather depressing news considering that I believe Foster’s to be one of very few good cartoons on Cartoon Network… and even on children’s TV right now.

But I too have noticed that the originality and spontinaity has been waning. The episodes have stopped being as neatly wrapped as they originally were and a lot of newer episodes seem rather unorganized. But I don’t mean to critisize!

It’s sad to see it go, but 6 seasons is a good run! It’s a great run, really. I understand Cartoon Network’s rule and I think in the end it might be a good thing. All good things really must come to an end! Neverending shows can get quite annoying. So I guess all we can do is enjoy this last season, buy all of the DVDs and wait for Craig’s next project. : ) He really is a cartoon genius, so I can’t wait!

Well I knew this was going to happen and I had a feeling it would it happen soon. I never knew of Cartoon Network’s rule of only letting a show have 6 seasons. That stinks! I’m gonna be sad to see that go. That was my favorite show on that channel!

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

“FHFIF” was my favorite show! (besides Ed, Edd, and Eddy)

actually, CN is letting Ed, Edd, and Eddy have a few more sesons and they’ve already had 6.

EEE RULES!!!

Edited. I combined both of your posts. – Mitch

Oh I love Ed, Edd, n Eddy! I can’t wait for more, if there is more.

BUt sad to see Foster’s end like this.

yeah! EEE RULES! But we have to wait a while for the next season because they’re making a movie called “Ed, Edd n Eddy’s Big Picture Show” and it will be about them searching 4 Eddy’s brother. It won’t be coming out until the end of 2008, and THEN we get a new season, but I’m still pretty psyched!

TS2: I can’t wait for it either.

Back on topic now. . .

I havent been watching Cartoon Network much recently but I havent seen anything about any more new Fosters. Has it ended yet? I know sometimes they put a series finale months after they stop airing new episodes.

No, it hasn’t ended yet. The finale, as far as we know, and based on what Craig McCracken has told us, will be in November, but there are still several episodes of Season Six that have yet to air. Just why CN has put it on hiatus from its regular line-up, though, is beyond me, and it’s something we’ve discussed on the Never Forgotten Forum. CN has a lot of new shows(most of which suck abysmally, if I must say so…sorry), so I’m guessing that they’re trying to really push those, and build an audience for them. Last season they had a long “dry spell” of no new episodes from like, early May, through the end of July, so I guess that’s what they’ll do this season, too. In a way, I guess it’s good to “stretch out” the final episodes and make the season last as long as possible.

Ahh, okay. Yeah none of their new series look that good. Especially that pirate one where it looks like they took Sesame Street muppets and made them cartoons…

LOL, you must be referring to “The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack”. Yeah, that one’s a stinker-sorry, Flapjack fans. I tried watching the premier, and I just couldn’t handle it. Same with “Skunk Fu”. The only new show I sorta do enjoy is “Chop Sockey Chooks”, since there’s so much neat parody of the both the Kung Fu and “Blaxploitation” movies and tv seris of the '70s there, just with CGI chickens! I can’t even get into “Chowder”, which has turned out to be very popular-you can only take a gluttony joke just so far. None really have the character development that Foster’s has, and most rely too heavily on little kid-oriented humor without balancing it with witty stuff that older viewers will “get”, the way that Foster’s does.

pitbulllady

Have you tried Transfomers Animated? I love it.

Yeah, saw Flapjack. Feels almost too Spongebobby for comfort. It’s okay, but nothing special IMhO.

Truthfully, I didn’t keep up with Fosters that much, though I’m now curious to see where the creators of a show about 3 superpowered girls that I used to watch all the time as a kid is heading now.

aw I didn’t know about this. Foster’s is one of my favorites too.
I remember when they showed a 4 minute clip of the show on the big screen. It was shown before the trailers started for an animated movie. It was really nice to hear the adults laughing harder than their own children.
It was a clip from when Cheese, Bloo, and Mac built a go kart to ride downhill. I like that episode.

flapjack seriously sucks, dude.
