All things Blu-Ray

Hi everyone; Long-time reader, first time poster!

I’ve been scouring the forums to get all the information about Pixar’s blu-ray releases, but found it a bit hard to get my head around it all since the information was all over the place, so I thought it’d be good to have a definitive thread!

(If one of these already exist and I missed it in my search, please feel free to point me in the right direction  )

My boyfriend and I have a PS3 and are picking up an amazing 42" 1080p HD plasma tomorrow (we plan to break it in with Wall-E on blu-ray!), but I was wondering if anyone can give me details on the rest of the films.

I know Cars and Ratatouille is on Blu-ray, but does anyone else know about the rest of the catalogue? Finding Nemo is my favourite movie of all time, so I’d be amazed to have it on blu-ray.

Thanks!

Firstly, welcome to the boards, jane doe!

Great idea to start a Blu-ray thread, so all the information is in one place. I’m sure you’ll enjoy WALL-E on Blu-ray, as although it’s an amazing film anyway, watching it in high definition really is something else.

As you said, Cars is available on Blu-ray and is probably worth getting as a Pixar fan due to the exclusive content available on the Blu-ray edition. There are audtio commentaries, deleted scenes, production artwork and featurettes. All good for both Cars and Pixar fans. Here’s a really good link about the Blu-ray version of Cars- Cars on Blu-ray

The same applies to Ratatouille, which I’m considering buying twice over although I’ve already got the normal DVD version, as the list of extras on the Blu-ray is pretty extensive. There’s some good information about it here- Ratatouille on Blu-ray

It has been announced that Finding Nemo will be coming out on Blu-ray at some point this year, but there’s no release date just yet. A Bug’s Life is meant to be coming out on Blu-ray in the next few months, and a Monsters, Inc. Blu-ray should apparently be coming out this year sometime. I wouldn’t be surprised at a release of The Incredibles on Blu-ray this year, but then again, with the release of other Pixar films on Blu-ray, it might be delayed.

Anyone can feel free to correct the above information, though. I’ve searched around for definite dates but there isn’t anything much yet.

Already released on Blu-ray:
Cars
Ratatouille
Short Films Collection Vol.1
WALL-E

Coming to Blu-ray this year (2009):
A Bug’s Life
Monsters, Inc.
Finding Nemo
(Up)

Coming to Blu-ray next year (2010):
Toy Story
Toy Story 2
(Toy Story 3)

Unknown:
The Incredibles

I think that Nemo is only rumored for this year (hopeful rumors :stuck_out_tongue:) but it’s improbable. I suppose that Nemo and The Incredibles will be released in 2011 along with Cars 2.

Disney has announced both A Bug’s Life and Monsters, Inc. for the first half of the year. Hopefully they will announce some new movies for the second half of the year. I know we’ll be getting Up and if we’re lucky Disney will also give us Finding Nemo or Pixar Short Films Collection Vol.2!

I don’t know how reliable this is, but this french website lists The Incredibles in blu-ray for an april to june of this year release :

Which means : APRIL to JUNE
Confirmed for the first semester, but without a release date for now.

The other movies annonced in blu-ray seem accurate, but it’s weird. And It’s written in blue, which should mean it concerns the release date in France. I don’t think Pixar would release the blu-ray of The Incredibles in France first and in the United States after.

They’re also listing Monsters, Inc. so maybe they just mistakenly replaced A Bug’s Life with The Incredibles ?

For me, it’s such torture having announced “windows”, but not yet dates for these titles. Eh, what can you do but be frustrated?

I’ve pre ordered my Copy of Monsters Inc!
Uk release is the first Monday in June, if Amazon is Correct.

Nice to See quite a few rumored for release in 2009!

My Prediction on Up’s release in the UK Mid to Late November possibly Early December, following the traits that Pixar have done with both WALL-E and Cars following their Summer releases in 2008 and 2006 respectfully.

It’s more than a rumor. “Finding Nemo” was announced for 2008 (with no date) but later pushed to 2009.

no, it was pushed to an undefined date, the only releases officially announced are Bugs and Monsters for 2009 (and TS1 and 2 in 2010)

I think that that french site is wrong, anyway an european release prior to the american one is more then possible (it happened with the Pixar Shorts collection, and I suppose it will happen with A Bug’s Life)

Bill Hunt from The Digital Bits (it is a very reliable source) says it was pushed to 2009. I trust him.

Saw the topic. Do you think it makes a big difference whether you watch Full HD video or just a stretched DVD, if you’re (obvouisly) sitting far from the screen. Our eye won’t notice each pixel, so is there a strong purpose to get everything in HD?
Or, if you posess both BD and DVD and compared them (on eye), could you tell whether I am right or not?

As far as resolution difference goes, it depends exactly how far away you’re talking about sitting. However, one area you’ll notice the difference, regardless of how far away you’re sitting, is in the more dynamic color-palette of the HD standard.

And really, as a general assessment, if you’re sitting far enough away that you can’t see the resolution difference between DVD and BD, you’re sitting too far away- especially for the BD, as the HD (ATSC) standard was designed for closer viewing than the SD (NTSC) standard.

May 19 for US release of A Bug’s Life… can’t wait to find out when it’ll hit Australia! Yay!

I thought about starting a new thread, but maybe I can get my question answered here?

For some reason, I’m having trouble finding any information about the tin collectors’ edition Blu-Ray releases. I got Cars and Wall-E in this edition as a gift, and I’m aware that the tin Blu-Ray is also available for Ratatouille and A Bug’s Life. I’ve seen them for sale at Best Buy.

Are any other Pixar films released/going to be released in this edition? I’m currently building my Pixar Blu-Ray collection since I just got a player, and it would be so, so nice if they were all matching. I especially want Up in this edition since it’s a favorite of mine. If someone could point me toward some info about these releases, I’d be grateful.
