Alternate ending - is what people always see as extra in a box of DVD or hi-tech disc called Blu-ray.
But didn’t you ever thought what is the movie would like if you are the writer.
Or you have questions about the alternate scene in a movie? (Pardon my broken English-ness.)
You might like certain scene or not. But still, you have to watch it as it’s already there. This is the place where you can ‘create’ your own plot fanfic-like to a movie. Meh first to do it. The movie that I would like to see to have different is Up. Quite spoilerish for the new movie, keep your texts[spoil] un-spoiled.[/spoil]
#1. [spoil]I always wondered what would it be if Carl is the one who died, leaving Ellie alone?[/spoil]
#2. Or what would it be if those three clowns (Russell, Kevin, and Dug) have not appeared at the first place?
And of course this would be followed by speculation-like answer by the user theirselves or other member.
How would you have ended it? I assume it has something to do with Randall?
Well, it would kinda go against everything the movie stood for (true love conquers all), not to mention the poor guy has been through so much only to not remember a thing in the end… but I agree it would’ve been more gutwrenching and bittersweet if they chose to close it so. Maybe Eve could teach him his ‘humanity’ again (although in the ending, she was about to walk away when Wall-E ‘awoke’… ).
Well, I can’t think of much Pixar movies that could have their endings improved… maybe for Cars Lightning and Sally should’ve kissed after Mater interrupted them anyway (better yet, in front of him! ).
My friend and I told our buddies who haven’t watched ‘fake spoilers’ for Up. One version was that [spoil]Carl got dragged off the blimp with his house after Kevin, Dug and Russell escaped. His house lands in the canyon below, where he presumably died with it (and ironically, he could be with his Ellie again! Aw… ). Russell returns to his town with the blimp, but in the sequel, he makes a return to Paradise Falls and together with Kevin and Dug, travels deep into the chasms to recover Carl’s body and confirm if he really died with the house or is still alive. The sequel will be called… you guessed it, Down.[/spoil]
That Up “fake spoiler” was so hilarious, thedriveintheatre! I was laughing as I read it [spoil]though Carl dying is indeed sad[/spoil].
And yes, Lightning and Sally actually kissing in front of Mater would be great!
Oh, I remember this brought up on another forum, and I completely agree with them! Having a flashback of Doc’s racing days while he was telling how his sponsors told him he was history. That would be so cool!
thedriveintheatre- Yes, in a way. Randall still gets ‘banished’ nonetheless, but when we see the future Monsters, Inc. where it’s now a laugh factory, Sulley suddenly grows a conscience and realises that what he did was morally wrong and decides to go and get him back instead of worrying about some little girl who is fine anyway.
But maybe that plotline should be reserved for the sequel.
L&D: Yup, it would be the perfect bittersweet ending. Although my friend’s suggestion it be named ‘Down’ was what got the biggest laugh out of me! XD
A flashback of Doc would be awesome. Although I liked how Pixar took the non-cliched route and had him just tell the story and leave the visuals to our imagination. Too often we see the typical camera flash-effect and then grainy black and white visuals replaying the past. They did something similar to that in Bolt, which turned out pretty poignant too.
lizardgirl: Interesting idea. Exactly how Randall grows that conscience and comes around can be the basis for an entire movie alone! But Pixar can be quite ruthless to its villains, making them unrepetant and either humiliating or killing them by the end of the movie. The only exceptions I can think of at the moment are Emperor Zurg from Toy Story 2, Bruce from Finding Nemo and Anton Ego from Ratatouille. I don’t quite know how Mike and Sulley will forgive him, but it’d be interesting if he met Boo when she was grown up.
I’m 100% with you on that last one, driveintheatre! This would make a great plot for a sequel indeed, and it would be quite refreshing if Pixar did this instead of jumping the shark and sticking with some worn-out jaded formula for Saturday morning kiddie cartoons. Call me crazy, but I DO hold them to a higher level of expectations than that, or I wouldn’t even be here. There are a lot of studios out there churning out CGI animated movies, but only ONE Pixar. Fair or not, I honestly expect better of them than I do of the rest, and that includes forgoing the Same-Old, Same-Old and including some refreshing and believable character arcs. I would indeed love to see the sequel revolve at least partially around Randall “growing a conscience”, as you say, or perhaps more accurately, simply rediscovering it, perhaps with a child character as a catalyst. One of the earlier plot treatments of M.I. had him and Mike and Sulley actually manage to overcome their differences and work together to stop a perceived “threat” to the Monster World, a small human child, and discover that children were no threat at all, but in the process, figure out how to work together, and I still think that it would have made for a better ending, and a nice surprise plot twist, if Randall could have had that opportunity to find out that human children were sentient, intelligent beings just like monsters, rather than the mere lower animals that most monsters seemed to believe they were.
Wow, pitbullady, the original script treatment sounded a lot better than the final one! It’s like a buddy cop movie, only with monsters. I wonder why Pixar didn’t go with that one, as like you and lizardgirl, I believe some (not all, but at least some) villains can be changed… The best films I like are which everyone is left different at the end than how they started off at the beginning, if that makes sense. Bonus points if it’s the bad guy (ex Treasure Planet, National Treasure 2, etc.). I’m disappointed Randall didn’t have a change of heart, at least, in the movie-verse.
I’m gonna do another for A Bug’s Life, because it’s my favorite XD . And it’s really the only one I’ve thought of “alternates” for.
For one thing, I would’ve had PT notice that the bird was fake, first seeing how easily the fire spread, but also the way it dropped, AND Manny “coming back from the dead”. I also would have shown him in the crowd and helping chase off the rest of the Grasshoppers. And when the rain falls, I would’ve had him, Manny and Gypsy, and the circus crew escape to safety, then have a “Hey, where’s everyone else?” moment.
Also, for when Hopper notices that the Queen is gone, it would take LONGER for the boys to get the bird loose. During that time, the Grasshoppers all still think that Manny is the sole “criminal” for the Queen’s disappearance. As Hopper is strangling Manny, Molt points out that he is the only one who knows where the Queen is (or so they think). So Hopper decides [spoil]to threaten Gypsy instead, who had been trying to save/protect Manny beforehand (slight cliche, but it also serves for a bit of irony). THEN the bird gets loose. [/spoil]
My idea there is to get to know at least some of the characters better, such as Molt, showing that sometimes he DOES have logic that he finds on his own, thus is a bit smarter that he acts. We’ve seen how Gypsy responded when Hopper threatened Manny, but I’ve been wondering about the reverse. I’ve had some ideas of how he’d respond to male moths trying to flirt with Gypsy (in some instances, it gets to be pretty funny). I’m sure that Hopper would have noticed that the two had some form of a special relationship after how readily Gypsy defended Manny, and that she was the ONLY one of the troupe that bothered to try saving him, so he might have taken advantage of it.
