Andy's play style vs Bonnie and others'

Why did Andy immediately make Buzz Lightyear fight Woody? The scenes in “Strange Things” where Andy has Buzz fire his laser and blow Woody away, and then while playing (just before going to Pizza Planet) Andy has Buzz stomping on Woody.

I mean, yes, its to show how much Andy loves Buzz over Woody at the moment, and that Buzz is the new favorite toy. But just a few weeks ago (in the movie’s continuity), Andy had Woody being the hero, saving the day etc.

I had lots of favorite toys come and go, but I don’t remember making one new favorite fight the old favorite. I just stopped playing with the old favorite toy.

Although, in TS2, in the playtime sequence, Andy has Woody not only makes the suspenseful plot twist so Buzz fights off Dr Porckchop, but also gets the girl (Bo Peep)

We also see a bit of Andy’s growth during his play styles between TS and TS2, the latter having Andy make Woody and Bo kiss. I don’t know, somehow I – it just warms the cockles of my heart.

In TS3, we see a much grander play sequence (I’m talking strictly about the actual toy state versions of the scene) with Andy suspending the box (spaceship) via something on his ceiling and having the presence of mind to place a pillow on the floor to make sure that toys like Hamm don’t break.

Then we have Bonnie, who immediately brings Woody into the fold of her toys, making him the star yet also not ignoring other toys. It seems like Bonnie kept Dolly as the witch quite a bit normally even before Woody arrived on the scene.

Sid, who yes, “destroys toys, just for fun” actually has a few nice play sequences, with having Combat Carl run from some unseen danger (with the firecracker on his back) and again with the operation theatre sequence “Oh no, Janie’s sick!”. And even the rocket sequence.

Hannah on the other hand, seems to have very gendered play sequences- with the tea party scene. “That is sooooo interesting Mrs Nesbit”

Just posting my thoughts. -Omar

Andy’s playing evolution wasn’t by accident. Buzz was technically a better toy, and Andy was VERY excited. At that point, everything else was inferior to the state-of-the-art Buzz Lightyear. Woody, previously being Andy’s best toy, would make the best rival (well, that’s my assumption at that point). Having sentimental value, however, is what brought Woody back to being Andy’s favorite toy. Probably when he lost them both is when he realized this. By Toy Story 2, he found out that his two favorite toys would be better as a team.

I think Bonnie’s is a combo of Hannah [her tea party girly style] + Andy, the suspense type, heroic play etc.

I think it also has to do with the way different genders play with their toys. Guys like the more suspensful, “fighting” play, us girls include all of our toys equally, more or less :stuck_out_tongue:

I agree with everybody else. Buzz was newer, so he beat Woody up. I think it was mainly to put emphasis on Buzz taking his place, though.
