Well, I thought I should post this here considering it does involve a lot of Pixarians. Lately, a lot of animation events have been going on, such as the convention in Ottowa that Haunt was lucky enough to attend, and Pete Sohn and Ronnie Del Carmen were both there. Another member on the boards that I keep occasional contact with, Mitch, got to do something pretty amazing yesterday. Meet with Brad Bird.
There was a convention held for the Iron Giant’s 10th anniversary, and she got to go. She told me a bit about the encounter with Brad, and I imagine it was awesome. She’s also possibly gonna get to go to a special Up screening (inside Pixar maybe?) and Pete Docter is gonna be there. Insanely jealous, but I wish her the best of luck. No idea if any other special goings-on are happening, but it’s all very exciting!
I was thinking this topic could be to discuss Pixar-involved animation conventions, events, etc. If this seems too flimsy a topic, I understand mods.
Well, I don’t know of any more right now, but in relation to the event in Ottawa, ON, Canada, I was there as well.
The event is annual and is called the Ottawa International Animation Festival. Our website was there as press, so in the coming week we will actually have an interview with Peter Sohn and Ronnie del Carmen uploaded. Still finishing with typing it all out currently… I’ll post when it’s ready! I’ll also be doing a write-up about the Up panel. Unfortunately, I couldn’t attend Pete Sohn’s Partly Cloudy panel - that would have been really cool! Apparently, they showed some great particle animation shots.
Although it’s not related to Pixar, I already have an interview with an art director from Starz animation about 9, as well as a bit about that panel on the site.
One Movie, Five Views: Did you get into any of the Hertzfeld panels? I heard those were great. The only reason I didn’t go was because I saw him at the Ann Arbor Film fest in Michigan in april.
And I missed the panel too. I was in the middle of a portfolio review.
No, I didn’t see any of his. I know there was one Friday night, and another Saturday night after Ronnie del Carmen at 21:15, or around then. I couldn’t go, since I was actually staying over in Montréal, and it’s about a two hour drive back, so I had to leave before it started. Also because I wasn’t staying close by, the only day I attended was Saturday. It was worth it for the Up presentation though - that was amazing.
And, if you don’t mind my asking, how did the portfolio review go? What was the set up like? The reason I couldn’t go to Partly Cloudy, was because I had to get to the 9 panel, since I had an interview scheduled.
You’re both very lucky, One Movie, Five Views and Haunt. Plus Mitch being able to meet Brad Bird…Wow. I hope she tells us more. I wish I could go to these kinds of things.
I think this is a perfectly good thread, ffdude1906, especially as it will keep everyone up to date with what’s going on in the world of Pixar that Pixar fans can try and get involved in.
Welcome to my entire life, ffdude. I literally live on the opposite side of everything amazing that happens in Cali, in a stupid little town that nobody knows about, where people have peas for brains, and a heavy small-town mentality gets subconciously forced on you and your dreams… so yeah, don’t feel too bad. You never know what the future holds, so don’t get too discouraged.
Finally have most of our coverage up… Just Part 3, (the final part), of the interview with Ronnie del Carmen and Pete Sohn needs to go up. Hopefully tomorrow…
