It came! It finally came!
Well, not “The Big One”, but the DVD box of “The Mysterious Cities of Gold”, a French-Japanese co-production from the early 80s.
And even after more than 25 years it still totally rocks. The soundtrack is one of the best ever, it has a wonderful plot and characters and despite its age it has a certain timelessness to it.
I also love the idea about combining each episode with a short live-action documentary explaining the historical backgrounds of the story.
Highly recommended!
I loved One Piece, and Yugi-Oh! but now they don’t show it on tv anymore.
They don’t even show anime on Cartoon Network anymore!
I used to be a fan of the Pokemon TV series (1st season FTW!) and its movies (The Power of One was incredibulously awesome!). But I kinda lost track after the 1st season and 3rd movie, so I watched bits and pieces from Johto League before I outgrew it. But I now have plans to start it up again since my friend got Pokemon Platinum. Ah… the smell of nostalgia smells so sweet! I think they’re up to the 10th season. Will Ash ever become a Pokemon master, I wonder?
My current anime ‘obsession’ at the moment is Fullmetal Alchemist. I’ve been watching episodes of the new series with my buds and I just borrowed the volumes of the first series (the apparently darker one not based on the manga) and I’m lovin’ it! Their alternate version of our world is detailed and intricate, the protagonists are reluctant anti-heroes, and the themes they present are both philosophical and theological with a little spells and magic thrown in. The Japanese are truly great at coming up with original concepts, and I can’t think of any precedents for this one, so yeah, FMA = WIN.
I’ve been hearing a lot of good things about K-ON. I’m currently engrossed Code Geass’ 2nd season. But since Shippuuden is sometimes slow to sub I may start supplementing K-ON in there too.
First and foremost, I am a big fan of Studio Ghibli. They have provided me with some of the best animation I have ever seen. I’ve watched Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. Its really good, but the general fanbase is pretty immature.
I actually like manga more, being a huge fan of Sugar Sugar Rune and Katekyo Hitman Reborn!
So about the art style. Don’t stereotype, please! Just because anime tends to have wide eyed, large chested females, and beautiful boys doesn’t mean all anime is like that! There are some anime and manga series with GORGEOUS artwork. For mature readers, look up scans of the manga Vagabond. The artwork is absolutely breathtaking. Shoujo manga and anime tends to look better, if you try to avoid artists with too similar styles…with the big eyed females and the sparkling male types.
(wow I’m not even that into anime DX)
I don’t know if anyone here is watching the new Suzumiya, but the three new episodes of season two are all greatly infuriating. I love it.
Anyway, I watched The Girl Who Leapt Through Time for the second time tonight. Just as good the second time as it is the first.
