Is anyone going, or has anyone from Pixar Planet already been?
I’m just curious about past experiences. O:

Although I’ve never attended any such popular event as the Annie’s, Golden Globes, or Oscars, I always watch the Oscars and will occasionally take a peek at the Golden Globe Awards and Annie Awards on the “telly”. They’re quite fun to watch at times, depending on who is attending and/or hosting each event.
If you’d like to learn more about the Annie Awards, in particular, here is its official website:
You’d think that what with my being only about forty-five minutes away from Hollywood/Los Angeles, I’d attend one of these events. Alas, I couldn’t stand the crowds.

I noticed how cheap tickets are! Wow! I would definitely attend the Annies if I ever had the opportunity to be in California during January (which I don’t at my current school).
Oh, I’ve already purchased tickets! I was just wondering if anyone had any experiences to share, or if anyone else might be going this year too.
I’m not a fan of crowds myself, but I’ve learned to deal with them so I can go to the events I like. Namely Comic Con in San Diego! The crowds are overwhelming, but worth it!
Hog-Hug - Ah, I see! My apologies. Well, in that case, I hope that you enjoy yourself!
Ah, the Comic-Con! Now there’s a time when I don’t mind the crowds – one of the few exceptions, actually. There’s something comforting about knowing that you’re not the only geek in the universe. I attended my first Comic-Con last year and I can’t wait to experience it again.

My first year was 2007. I didn’t know you attended 08. O: Not that we frequently talk or that I SHOULD have known, but that’s cool. Did you enjoy all the Pixar stuff? They actually had a better presence in 07 if you ask me. Sneak preview of Pixar Story, a panel on the short films, the WALL-E panel… I think there was just the UP panel in 08. Still, that was fun! I hope there will be more this year.
Comic Con was a great opportunity for me to meet so many people in the business. I actually had a very lengthy chat with Victor (sp?) Navone about WALL-E, and he drew a monster for me in a book I bought from him. I also met a lot of the Disney animators. I’m so far away from all of that on a day-to-day basis that it was great to go around and meet these people and talk with them. No hype, just talking about animation. It makes me feel like HEY I might actually have a shot at this thing, you know?
Hog-Hug- Ooh, you’ve got tickets to the Annie Awards? You must tell us all about it afterwards, as I’m sure there are loads of people on here that would be interested to hear about what it’s like to attend a proper award ceremony like that.
haha, I’ll definitely be sharing the experience when I get back!
I went to the Annie’s about 2 years ago and I rather enjoyed myself. My friend and I went when it was at a theater in Glendale. We showed up early for drinks and hor deouvers and tried to be nonchalant looking for familiar faces (i.e. famous peeps).
The ceremony was pretty standard. Tom Kenny hosted, people presented, awards given, etc. There was entertainment (maybe half-way thru?) in the form of a very funny George Bush impersonator.
After there was a dinner - I can’t remember if we had to have a special ticket. There was lots of mingling and such though I was too shy to go up to people I recognized. I did, however, get to very briefly talk to June Foray to say how much I loved her work.
If I had the chance I would go again. It’s a great opportunity to meet people. Don’t forget your camera and a pen/marker. There are programs so if you do happen to meet someone - you can almost bet John Lasseter will be there - you may be able to weedle an autograph out of them Have fun!
Thanks for the share & tips! I was wondering, did you dress up very fancy to go? I’m having issues deciding what to wear. It’s a dress-up event, but is the audience supposed to be really fancy too?
