^Definitely agreeing, especially in how Ariel was just fascinated by all the world around her, and Eric, as he was the first human she’d ever seen. All my friends and family are extremely critical of Ariel and call her “a little brat”, but IMO a character should have some key flaws to be truly believable. I still like her a lot even if she’s not my favorite.
To bump this topic a bit…
For me it is the Jungle Book, I was really excited when I borrowed it for the first time and it ended up flopping in my mind. It had two memorable songs and some interesting characters (Baghera, Baloo) but the plot just fell flat in my mind. Plus Mowgli takes the cake for most annoying protagonist ever. Its not a BAD film just ok.
IMO, there have been some snoozefests like Pocahontas, but I’ve only disliked 2 of them with some sort of passion, those being Home On The Range and Chicken Little. My God…
I hate Chicken Little as well. But it’s not a classic, because everyone hates it. ![]()
It’s a shame that Chicken Little wasn’t that good. Especially since the directors did a great job with Emperor’s New Groove and Cats Don’t Dance.
I liked it… ![]()
I know! Thoe are two of my favorite non-Pixar movies. I just don’t get it. There wasn’t any element that would make it not a great movie, it just…wasn’t. Same thing with Meet The Robinsons, Atlantis:TLE, and Treasure Planet. But I personally like all those for some reason. I have taste, it just doesn’t work sometimes. ![]()
But doesn’t the general public classify Disney Classics back when DIsney Animation was in their golden age? Everything before the HSM or Hannah Montana stuff.
Not really. I mean, the Renaissance Films are just as popular, and, in some cases, more critically acclaimed. And will everyone stop bringing up Disney Channel? Yes, it’s a black spot in the world. But it’s run by freaking ESPN under Disney’s ESPN contract! That’s like saying it’s Disney’s fault that the merchandise in the Disney store stinks(which it doesn’t. It’s awesome)!!! The Disney Store is run by Children’s Place, so that figure would be irrelevant. As is the Disney Channel.
I understand you all hate the DC. Everyone does, and I hate everything about it except P&F and the Gargoyles reruns on XD at 4 AM. Yes, it’s evil. But Disney does not make the shows or sell the ridiculous amounts of merchandise the shows get. Seriously.
And besides, Chicken Little, Atlantis, Home on the Range, Brother Bear, Treasure Planet, and all those movies are not classics. That was my point. They are too new, not popular enough, and mostly despised by critics. It’s impossible for them to be universally accepted classics.
EDIT: Here’s a good example. Usually Wikipedia is garbage and false, but I read this. This is true. Golden Age of Disney Animation? 1928-1960’s. Now, if you meant the Disney Renaissance Era,
it happened from 1989-1999 and produced, IMO, the best streak of Disney films and the ones that are the most popular today.
