Any classic Disney movies that you didn't like, and why?

I think the title pretty much says it all here, this is a thread for those Disney movies that are considered classics that you personally didn’t understand the appeal of for whatever reason, dependant on what the film in question is.

You can also link to a review you may have done on another website as a means of elaborating on your views and statements, as I will be doing with the classic that I personally can’t stand, that being the 1989 film The Little Mermaid, while I give it credit for kick starting the Disney Renaissance era, having one great song (Under the Sea) and having great animation…I personally can’t say I like anything in the film.

But for more elaboration, here’s a link to a review I did on my YouTube channel youtube.com/watch?v=_jbocV7wHwM

So, what films do you guys dislike and why? ^^

Cinderella, because it’s boring. I’m sorry, but I have no interest.

Bambi, because I can’t stand mommy deaths.

Awww, I adored Bambi, mainly because of its accuracy and attention to detail in terms of how animals live, like the lack of a nuclear family unit for example.

To each their own though ^^

This is hard because they’re all so good. Even the ones I would never be caught watching are good movies, but if I had to pick one, it would be The Rescuers, because I think it’s a little boring and the animation isn’t the greatest. The sequel on the other hand is outstanding.

The Rescuers does have a special place in my heart, but I do have to admit that I thought the sequel was FAR superior, one of the few instances where it was alongside The Lion King 2.

EDIT: Actually, I’m not so sure now, I’m rewatching the first film again and it seems to have MUCH more meaning and heart. Then again the sequel did still have heart but it was more action packed.

I barely remember either, but in my memories, Down Under seems much better. I love his relationship with the mommy eagle. <3

Bambi. It’s sickingly cute, and boring.

The Black Cauldron: I don’t need to elaborate on this one

Both Rescuers. Blah.

Oliver and Company: snore

^Bambi and Rescuers: yes.

However, I <3 Oliver and TBC.

I gotta be honest, The Black Cauldron is the only one I can agree with you on here, that film was truly awful from what I can remember of it.

I know some people are going to want to crucify me for this, but Pocahontas. i found it boring, the main characters as bland as humanly possible, and, my biggest pet peeve, quite preachy and pretentious.

Fine! Well if you guys want it like that, then I guess Roger Ebert and I will join the Black Cauldron fan club alone. Current members: 2.

^Hey!!! I already said I love The Black Cauldron, so I get an automatic first-class membership.

Sorry ^^; I don’t mind dark Disney at all, in fact one of my favourite Disney films is The Hunchback of Notre Dame which was REALLY dark, serious etc at times, but The Black Cauldron just came off as OTT to me and didn’t really feel like a Disney animated feature.

What is OTT? Sorry, I’m dumb. I love HOND, too!! There are very few Disney films I don’t like, though, minus the sequels. I love most of them, even the ones everyone else hates.

It means over the top, shoulda been more clear, sorry ^^;

Oh, thank you. I just like how it’s like the dark side of magic, rather than light hearted, like Little Mermaid or Hercules, I guess. I like the diversity in Disney.

I did kind of like Hercules, but I hated The Little Mermaid. As I said in my video review the shallow relationship and morals that film embodies actually sickened me a little bit, as over the top as that may seem.

Yes!!! I love Herc, I just used him as an example of “happy Disney”. However, you should listen to mom and dad, no matter what Ariel says. In real life, she’d be pregnant, and probably…doing odd jobs for cash, not happily married. :unamused: I hate teen romance. So…cheap and stereotypical…

Agreed. What bothered me the most about her was how she was willing to give up her family and friends for a guy she’d seen for less than five minutes and had no dialoge or interaction with him outside of saving him :S

Sadly, though, real girls do that. All the time. :unamused: I like Ariel’s design, love the music, but don’t care for the film or its theme: forget your dad, just go find a cute guy!! Yay!! Hey, Disney, how about not? :unamused:
