Any musicians out there?

Musicians as in "I play an

instrument" musician. Not your nose.

I play a percussion instrument- marimba. If you don’t

know what that is… it’s like a xylophone but… not as bright sounding… it’s a deeper and richer sound.

I also play viola… but I kinda quit last year… I don’t think I can be involved with more than one

instrument at a time… :frowning:

It’s band camp right now for me! (For marching band season) And my hands are

like DYING. But it’s fun. It’s just… it’s 8 hours a day… and it KILLS your hands. I have blisters and

its… yucky. Heheh.

What instrument do you play? Or perhaps wish to play? Or perhaps used to play?

I played trumpet in middle school, high schoo, and college. Now I’ve “retired”

after about 10 years of playing. I loved marching band and had some wonderful band trips in high school and

college. I met my boyfriend in band and we got together on a band trip. Band is great! I really enjoyed

playing trumpet and was quite good in high school. I did lots of honor bands and did pretty well. In college,

it was more about having fun at the games. I miss it a little, but now my little sister is in band and I

can live vicariously through her!

As my Teacher

always said, the human voice IS an intsrument . . . and I’ve been singing pretty much since the 4th Grade. I’m

not the best mind you, and I’m definitely not going to College based on my “talents” . . . but I’ve

enjoyed singing as a Baritone (and as a high Alto in my younger years) for many years . . . plus I get the

opportunity to see my school’s Orchestra in action, and trust me, they are AWESOME! You should see them do

“Two Minutes till Midnight!”

Oooh… my sister plays trumpet… she was nearly a prodigy but she’s off at college now and

she isn’t planning to major/minor in it or anything. Band IS great… I’ve met so many awesome people through

it. Usually they’re the “good” people too… not the people obsessed with how they look or anything…

they just seem so human to me. And they like to have a lot of fun.

And I apologize, Phoenician… I

actually wasn’t thinking of singers when I was talking about playing instruments… lol. I agree… singers do

deserve their spotlight. I think I was talking more along the lines of those… who maybe like to

listen to music… and believe it’s easy. Actually. I don’t know what I was talking about anymore. So don’t

mind me…

A violist is me! Actually, I got my start on the violin when I was really tiny (either 5 or

7- my mom thinks I was 5, I think I was 7). But I saw the light when I was a freshman in high school and

switched, and I haven’t looked back since, seven years later. Oh yeah, and I learned how to play cello one

Winter Term. I heart my string instruments.

I love

music, it’s a big part of my life, but I am in no way a musician. The only instrument I can play is the

keyboard/piano. I can hear any song and figure out how to play it.

Many people see me and mistake me for

a piano player because I have long fingers, but these fingers are for drawing, baby!

:-D)

~~=oP

I’ve been playing the piano for around 14 years now (stared when I was four or five).

It is my major instrument in university, although I want to major in composition at my faculty. I’m also in

choir, although I was kind of forced into it… but my voice has really developed in the past year.

I

played the violin for two years in middle school, and I hope to get back into it. I have perfect pitch, so I can

figure out what key a song/piece is in without the aid of an instrument. It helps when arranging music,

hehe.

Music is definitely a big part of my life, as I want to become a famous film composer.

I played the clarinet for a year or so in high school. I liked it and I was

pretty good, but I gave it up when I realised that if I wanted to continue with my lessons, I’d need to keep

taking on music classes and, God, just no. Our music teachers were all evil, evil trolls.

I’ll always

remember: ‘Jennifer, you need to join the choir.’ (As a barked order, the kind you would expect to hear

shouted over bombs falling on a dirty trench.) 'Because if you join the choir, then Melissa will join the

choir. If Melissa joins, then Laura will join, and if Laura joins then Fiona will join and Fiona has a beautiful

voice.’

It’s like peer pressure gone wrong…

…Of course, this genius Houdini-esque escape plan

of mine backfired on me when I later got the most evil of all the music teachers as my registration teacher in my

fifth year. (Kind of like a homeroom teacher, I think? Basically, the first thing I would see in the morning

was shudder her.)

You had Miss Miller for

reg in 5th year?! Your poor, poor creature. I can’t even remember who my registration teacher was in 5th year.

Mrs Clough?

It was… horrible

My skin’s still

crawling. Must be in another continent by now. Urrrgh…

'm a drumer of 4 years and I get my usual lessons in

school, extra lessons (about an hour) in school, and also about 6 hours practice a week.

You should hear

my friend who teaches me though, he’s amazing on drums. LOL. He’s in a heavy metal band right now. Here’s the

myspace.

www.myspace.com/atreusglasgow

He teaches me a lot of new fills and stuff so he’s pretty

cool.

That’s pretty cool you guys! Although I can understand you, Mell_O_Drama… music teachers

can be the most passionate people… and therefore the craziest. I’ve been fortunate to have good people as my

music teachers… even if they can get scary sometimes if the group isn’t playing well.

No harm done!! I know what you mean, and I agree, Music teachers of any

kind CAN be the most “out-there.” But hey, when that Concerts coming up, and you have to NAIL that one

note of that one page of that ONE piece of music or else it’s all for nought . . . tensions run high and you

begin to feel and hear some amazing stuff!!

Surprisingly, those were my favorite rehearsals.

I’ve been a pianist for about five to six years now- started when I was around ten- but I’m

quitting after I’ve got my music GCSE and I’m going to start learning the violin.

One instrument I’d

LOVE to play is the sax. So sexy!

She wasn’t passionate, she was dead inside! She started off as one of the best

teachers and then one year, hacked off all her hair and went mental! Who was the other one who wasn’t Mr.

Drennan? Ahaha that’s terrible, but I don’t think I ever had her. I had saxophone lessons for two weeks and

then gave up because it was a tenor sax and it was heavy (no seriously, it was heavy and I didn’t want to carry

it home!).

Oh dear… that is quite scary…

:open_mouth:

Haha, she

really was a horrible teacher. The drama teachers were the passionate and crazy ones (well, except for Ms

McKenna – she refused to let you do anything unless it was ridiculously melodramatic and about teenage pregnancy

or drug abuse), this teacher was just nasty. She’d get really impatient with you and she really bestowed

attention upon her favourites, not a good teacher at all.

I’ve been pretty happy with my music profs so far. Only one was an exception… in high

school… who made horrible decisions that made me angry… but if it weren’t for his advice, I wouldn’t be in

the wonderful university that I’m in… hehehe. I especially like my composition teachers so far… they’re

funny, creative, and interesting.

I want to learn the harp and vibraphone if possible. Those are great

instruments!

I can

play the piano/keyboard, and any instrument simialr to it (like the bells, xylophone…) the trombone, and I can

keep a beat on the drums, but nothing complicated. all the musicians on Pixar Planet should start a band!

Most people think percussion keyboard instruments are simple to play… but I can promise you they’re not.

My instructor is hardcore, and he pays attention to technique and detail. It’s a lot of fun, but it’s actually

really painful as well. Playing 4 mallets is like the devil on your hands… I currently sit here with 4

blisters… :frowning:

You should go ahead and learn it though! It’s a lot of fun!!
