Anybody else getting kinda sick of the Novelty?

Now, to be clear, I’m as excited for TS3 as anybody. I’m in the seat already. For IMAX.

But the thing is, honestly, it’s only because I trust Pixar; not because of the promotional stuff.

Anybody else get kinda a sense of annoyance from the advertising? It feels like I’m just getting NEWTOYSNEWTOYSNEWTOYS shoved in my face every 5 seconds. Aside from the final trailer itself being HILARIOUS, none of this promotional stuff is really grabbing me at all. It just feels like pointless spoilers.

For a sec a thought that you were talking about the 3D IMAX stuff…

Anyway, I get what you’re saying, but then again, the commercials/trailers are doing what they’re supposed to do: generate hype. And it is the first new TS film, in what, 9 or 10 years?

But yeah, I do agree that they could have toned down the spoilers in the trailers.

Well, I haven’t really noticed any advertising whatsoever, but I’ve always had the feeling that Disney/Pixar don’t really bother with advertising Pixar films overseas. I’ve found this with a lot of their films, to be honest. It’s very irritating because I want to get hyped up about it but I can’t as adverts for upcoming Pixar films are scarce over here, and I’m pretty sure the same will apply with Toy Story 3.

I have to agree with lizardgirl. The whole advertising of the film is handled very differently here in the UK, almost muted. My sons and I spend a lot of time on the internet trying to source the kind of advertising your bored with.

It is really weird. I’m studying over in Canada and we have barely any advertisements for Toy Story 3 (apart from the trailers shown before the TS DF, and the new Alice in Wonderland film). But as soon as I arrived home in California, it was swamped with Toy Story 3 advertisements.

I disagree. I like the hints, because they get me more excited. You get even more spoilers on Toy Story’s, Pixar’s, and Disney’s facebook pages. I think it’s great that they let fans in on plot lines.

I’m 50-50 with it. I hate when certain things get advertised waaaaaaaay too much, almost to the point where you can’t go into the supermarket without seeing them everywhere.(Yes, Hannah Montana I’m talking to you. >.>~<.<)

But as usual I have a big soft spot for Toy Story… so I’m somewhat ok with it. I haven’t noticed it much until just a few weeks ago. At first I noticed these little Toy Story fruit snacks in my local supermarket then that progressed to band-aids and toys. I even saw a Toy Story themed Valentine’s Day cake that had Woody and Bo Peep on one side and Buzz and Jessie on the other, it made me smile. Tomorrow I’m going to see Alice in Wonderland, so aside from the trailer I know the theater is going to have a few more posters hanging around.

Before I didn’t see them that much, but since we are getting closer to June they are popping up everywhere.

And I’m in New York so I can only imagine how much Toy Story merchandise is flooding California right now.

I havnt seen any advertising really…and Im in the US.

I totally disagree with you Netbug009.
Toy Story is Pixar’s biggest movie and it’s having another sequel. It’s a big deal. Of course they are going to promote it especially since they made over a billion dollars worth of Toy Story merchandise since 1995.

I agree.

From the US, we haven’t gotten much promotion here at all. No commercials or posters I’ve seen, only trailers and some posters at the theater.

But I do HATE unnesessary spoilers.

What I’ve noticed in the US is not so much new products, but restocking of old products, which I suppose could be affective as well. But it would still be nice to have some specific TS3 items.

It’s not products or the amount of advertising, it’s that it feels like the ads are ALL ABOUT “new character in the movie!” and not about anything we cared about back when we watched the first 2 toy stories.

…I don’t know if I’m making any sense. ._.

yeah I hear you…I kinda dislike how many new characters there are. I hope Woody and Buzz don’t turn into like…side characters. I’m hoping they balance it out well…

Oh, I get it now. I still think it’s fine personally.

That will never happen. Woody and Buzz are the biggest characters.

I personally prefer movie advertisements over other forms of products. I wouldn’t mind watching commercial breaks just made up of TV spots instead of advertising a new brand of cereal or insurance schemes.

And I don’t mind outdoor advertising, either. They serve as a visual reminder of what movie is coming out in a few weeks, and which ones to sort of get prepared or hyped up for. It’s like an event to look forward to, and Pixar usually ends up being the one I anticipate all year.

That being said, I get annoyed when the ads reveal too much spoilers. I felt Toy Story 3 was handled well, though. It’s always exciting to uncover a new poster or featurette or vignette every few days, and then you start seeing billboards appearing a fortnight before its release, which Pixar started doing since Ratatouille. Movie advertising saturation is not very obvious in Sydney, which is not really as film-crazy as Singapore. It’s much harder for me to remember the release dates or remind my friends of an upcoming movie, and by the time it’s out, I would be like “Wow, that was fast.”

So I don’t mind seeing new images or videos from week to week. Maybe those of you who live in California might find it annoying that they have to keep reminding you (“Pixar, the studio who brought you Finding Nemo and Up, is going to release Toy Story 3. You know, the sequel to the two hit movies? And it’s like, this summer. Yeah, June 18, 2010. And there’s gonna be lotsa new characters”) every so often, but for fans in countries further away, they’re like a treat to savour and get excited about before its release.

I’m sorry guys. I’m really not getting what my issue is across well. ;( The amount of ads doesn’t bug me; heck, if it did I’d be a hypocrite cause I was geeking over the WALL-E ads back in '08, it’s just…

…I think there’s a FEELING a want to associate with this. Like, a sense of heart and nostalgia and excitement. But I feel so neutral and flat on the promotional material lately. It just… I think it feels like Disney is trying too hard. It feels so novelty and in-your-face and all about how many cool toys they can shove at you.

I think my issue is that most of the advertising hasn’t made me care. That’s it! It’s like Disney is all “NEW CHARACTER” and I’m like “Whatever. Cool. All I get is a picture and a short description with too many exclamation points.”

Like I said, I’m excited for the movie as it is; I know it’s gonna rock. I’m just used to more than just the trailer making me excited for a movie, and so far the trailer itself is the only thing that’s really gotten any attention.

Maybe I’m just being a brat. ._.;

Well yeah, I kinda get what you’re trying to get across, Netbug. I’m not exactly as excited to find out more about the supporting characters as I was for say Wall-E or Up. I think it’s a case of too many cooks spoiling the broth.

I mean, how are they going to devote such a limited amount of screentime to so many characters? It’s an almost unwritten rule that for every sequel to a successful franchise, they have to introduce more new characters. Can’t they just keep the same number of characters but put them into new situations? The bad guy can be different, if he died or ran away in the previous movie, but there’s not really a need to have so many new protagonists.

I’m sure Pixar will be able to handle the sheer number of new characters and probably weave a spectacular tale that will address all their relationships and issues, but that is not what really’s selling the movie for me. The trailer remains the most remarkable aspect of the campaign for me so far.

I think the movie will manage. It’s just the ads that are irritating me. >.<
