Anyone else think Cars stunk?

It was the only bad PIXAR film in my onpinion. I wanna see what y’all have 2 say about it!

Wrong section but yeah, I didn’t like it much. :stuck_out_tongue:

I liked it at first, but foolishly watched it too much, then proceeded to compare it to the other Pixar films, and yeah … it was a disappointment. :frowning: I hate to admit it, but that’s how I truly felt.

It’s still an ‘all right’ film to me, it’s just not up there with the rest.

Why did you post this in the WALL-E forum? Well while I’m at it I’ll answer the question:
Well, as a Pixar fan, I love Cars, it kind of grew on me, although i think it’s their weakest film, Pixar on a bad day, is any other studio on a good day, so i can’t complain. I like their other films better, but it was stupid f me to doubt Pixar just because I’m not a big fan of cars themselves and western style movies. It jsut goes to show how awesome Pixar is, tehy can make you like soething you originally didn’t.
A few people here don’t liek Cars too much, and some are die-hard fans, but I don’t think anyone thought it stunk, if you want to see somehting horrible, just get a Shark Tale DVD, now THAT stunk!!
My consensus: Pixar is still 8 for 8 and soon to be 9 for 9!!
P.S. Mater is AWESOME!!

Yeah, firstly, as others have pointed out, wrong section.

And in my ‘onpinion’, it didn’t stink. It’s admittedly my least favourite Pixar film, but that’s due to a range of factors, including the general high standard of quality of other Pixar films.

I never particularly connected to any of the Cars characters, although they were all believable and convincing in their own ways, and so I just never connected to the film as a whole. But aesthetically, it’s beautiful and the message it puts across is very important.

i’m a newbie and still learning how 2 navigate the site, so please cool it about the wrong section.

Ayway, I think whoever said the Cars is any other studio on a good day is absolutely correct, but still I don’t want to see another one like Cars come out again. And now they’re making a Cars 2. Man!

Yeah, I have to agree- the one film I’d really rather not see a sequel for is Cars, and that’s the one they’ve chosen to do a sequel for. Annoying, but hopefully it’ll be the right decision in the long term.

And welcome to the forums!

I think it’s best to forewarn those who don’t see this coming, but …

There are some die-hard fans on this forum that will most probably attack.

Though, I don’t see why they can’t level with us - I like a lot of widely unappreciated films, and I accept that others hate them (and can see why they would) whilst I find I can’t help but love them.

with regards to Cars 2, i do think it’ll be any other studio on a good day, but i think that’s all the apparent franchise will ever be.

i actually didn’t notice that ‘onpinion’ thing until just now.

Well, personally Cars was my least favorite Pixar film. Did it stink? No! I thought it was good, but Pixar could have done a lot more with the idea. This makes me confident for the sequel, however.

Pixar has said time and time again that they will only make a sequel if they have a great story to go with it. If Pixar is making a sequel, then it must mean that they have a great story to go with it.

I’m actually waiting for this film to see if Disney’s new ownership of Pixar will cause the company to take a turn for the worse, with sequels coming out for money rather than for entertainment (like cough almost every single sequel of a classic Disney movie that ended up straight-to-video cough). If the sequel isn’t at least as good as the original, then I will lose a bit of faith with Pixar are their ability to hold up.

I think the only reason the sequel came under fire is because Cars, although in the opinion of a lot of older fans a setback, is easily the most merchandised Pixar film to date (with the possible exception of Toy Story). A sequel for Cars seems to suggest that Disney wants to freshen everyone’s memories of Lightning so that they can sell more lunchboxes, whereas a Ratatouille sequel would be a win to the fans (I want more Remy, what can I say?), but a missed opportunity for Disney considering Ratatouille was much less merchandised and grossed less in the US (though grossed much more worldwide).

But I have faith in Pixar! I just hope they didn’t let Disney put too much pressure on them.

Wow it looks like all of you agree. Guess what? So do I!

Not as good as the rest, still a great film, this is posted in the wrong section, yada yada yada, but not worth making a sequel out of. I’m on exactly the same page. I think if they were to make a sequel of anything, it should be The Incredibles! Not Ratatouille. How could anyone take back that beautiful “Fin”? It’s too artsy to risk being cheapened with a sequel.

My least favorite Pixar film is Monsters, Inc, because it’s just a little bit juvenile to me. Finding Nemo was bordering on saccharine, but still a miracle of the CG world. Cars is actually not in their top grossing movies list. It’s even behind Ratatouille. Who am I to second-guess Lasseter, but it seems like the only movies they’re making sequels out of are his. And they’re getting Brad Lewis to direct, a mayor and producer! Ugh.

You probably don’t even want to post this in the correct (Cars) section of the site because most people there, you know, are fans of Cars and won’t like your post very much.

It’s cool to voice your opinion, by all means, but after I and others have debated this for so long it seems like the ‘Battle of the Fans’ all over again. But I know you’re new.

I loved Cars because I think it was a great movie and I think Cars 2 will be just as great or greater. I’ve been told so many times that Cars is an awful movie and my opinion still doesn’t change. I’ve actually written up a ‘review’ of sorts that explains exactly why I think it’s a great movie that I think I’m going to post in the Cars forum where fans of the movie can read it but non-fans don’t have to. You can take a look at that in the next few days (if I post it) if you want to see my opinion. And of course, you can comment and disagree and debate if you’d like.

Anyhow, welcome to the forums since you’re new. But like others have said while you may find a lot of Pixar fans here who didnt LOVE Cars, you won’t find many that will openly say it ‘stunk’. Because frankly, it didn’t. It wasn’t THAT bad.

I’d also like to add that I think it’s silly that people are saying producers can’t direct. ):

If I dare say, I do recall that many of Pixar’s directors were once ‘mere’ Animators. Now they’re directing blockbuster films and they haven’t stopped yet.

Why can’t it be the same with producers? They do just as much work on a film as anyone else. Just because they’re not drawing a cel or rending a piece doesn’t mean they don’t know anything about filmmaking. On the contrary, producers have to know EVERYTHING about filmmaking, because their job is to oversee the entire production.

The spirit of Pixar is to believe that any idea is potentially a good one and that anyone can ‘cook’ if I dare remember the message of Ratatouille here. Not everyone can become a great artist, but a great artist can come from anywhere.

So pointing out that Cars 2 is being directed by a producer as if such a thing is impossible kind of goes against all that Pixar has taught us, yeah?

Wow, I miss the mods, seriously. People are really abusing this double-posting garbage- not even as a means of bumping because, hello, you double-posted in one day! :stuck_out_tongue:

But … it’s not my place to scold you on that.

And I know it’s in the wrong section but seeing as it is on the same freaking forum, a fight is unavoidable. But, don’t fight.

I don’t know how Cars fans can’t level with us - yes, it has it’s good points, but overall, it wasn’t up to par with the rest. And hopefully, the sequel will redeem it. Hopefully. If not, it was a good film for little boys who like to play with matchbox cars. I know, it generated other audiences other than that, but … well, it would’ve appealed to my little brother more, if he still played with Hot Wheels. I just feel the story’s been told already, it was obvious, and I saw a lot of things coming. But, I’m not going to say it was a bad film - not because it’s Pixar - because it was worthwhile and had it’s moments and was not a complete waste of time. And to me, that’s what makes a movie worth it. :stuck_out_tongue: But, that’s just me.

Ok, I’m SICK of people fighting over a movie. This is a PIXAR FAN FORUM, not a lets bash Cars forum. If you are going to say a Pixar film stunk on a PIXAR FAN FORUM, you better watch out because over and over a fight starts, I think we all agree it was any other studio on a good day, ok, let’s leave it at that. It took some time for me to get used to (because of prior opinions) but I Iike it, so once again, it was not a BAD film and it’s not very smart to call it that on a PIXAR FAN FORUM, it was a decent, beautiful film that many people at an amazing studio worked on for a very long time (6 years I believe) and calling it bad is a huge insult to Pixar fans, Cars fans, and especially the wonderful team who brought it to life! I respect your opinion, but think about who you are insulting next time you say something like that. Cars 2 will be great, and that movie will be their redemption, for all the people who said it stunk, because Pixar only does sequels if they have a better story to tell, so I look forward to it.

I like “Cars.” And it’s made over $4 billion for Disney. It may not be the strongest film of them all, but it’s got great characters, and an entire generation seems to love it.

As far as producers directing, bad idea. Especially ones with so little experience telling stories.

Were you talking to me? I didn’t know it was wrong to post twice in a row? But I posted twice because my posts were about two different things…

And I wasn’t starting a fight, again I hope you weren’t talking about me…

I keep trying to say I don’t mind if people don’t like Cars but I’m not going to say “Yeah I guess it wasn’t as good as the other Pixar films…” if I don’t think that’s the truth. I don’t. If that’s what you mean by leveling with you, I’m sorry that I can’t. But of course I’m willing to level with you on the fact that we all have our own opinions and mine just couldn’t be further from yours… but there’s nothing wrong with that.

Rock on Martini!

Edited. I combined both of your posts. – Mitch

And enough with the religious references–even in signatures. This is a Pixar Fan Forum. Not the southern baptist convention. Save it for church.

And Cars will be here LONG after we’re all gone!

Yes, I was talking to you, TS2 too - I don’t want to start a fight, but even if they’re about two different things - they’re supposed to be in one post. You’re making unnecessary work for the mods. :stuck_out_tongue:

Sid Phillips: Eh, best you keep off that subject - A113 likes to get up in people’s faces about that subject, and he never lets up. :unamused: Just warning you.

I’m sorry, I didn’t know about that rule.
