Patrick Warburton is probably the most overused voice ever. Usually, I kind of like it when I can recognize a voice just by hearing it. Not with his. Truth is, it’s so overused, when I hear his voice, I just can’t get into the character. All I can hear is his voice, and since I hear it SO MUCH, it kinda breaks the fourth wall and rubs in my face the fact that this isn’t another world or experience, just another show/movie that someone made.
I’m glad that Pixar has never cast him in their movies, and they seem to be one of the few that haven’t. Disney, Nickelodeon, and Cartoon Network can’t seem to get enough of him. Don’t get me wrong, he’s an excellent actor with a great voice, but since it is so common it ruins the effect.
I don’t know if I would say most overused, but he certainly does appear in alot of stuff. I think the problem is that he doesn’t change his voice. It’s always the same thing. I’m getting a little tired of him, I admit, but he is pretty good at what he does, so as long as he is doing a good job, it won’t bother me. James Marsden used to bother me alot, he is in like everything, but he always has the exact same voice. We can tell it’s the same guy when he is in multiple shows on one channel.
Whoo, he’s in alot. I’d just Wikipedia him, but I know he was Kronk in Emperor’s New Groove, the jerk teacher in Kim Possible, and a bunch of other TV roles.
Was Warburton not the Voice of Buzz Lightyear in the TV Series?
Wait: IMDb.com-ed Him… He WAS for the 62 episodes between 2000-2001.
Looking through his filmography… and his Resume, as a voice actor he has great comic timing. Yes his voice may sound like stock after a while, and that can become tiresome but who isn’t getting tired of hearing Eddie Murphy’s in a Sub Par Family Movie? Who isn’t tired of hearing the name Zac Effron?
As an actor who regularly heard the words your not safe enough to cast you as a lead… Warburton in my opinion wether it be as Comic Relief (Kronk) or as lead (Lightyear), is a safe pair of hands, and his voice is his asset there… Even in his Live Action stuff (Less Than Perfect, Rules of Engagement, 8 Simple Rules, The Tick) He has a refined quality and for me makes a show.
His Animated choices for work of late may be something to be desired! But Its not his fault its the poor script writing
I’d like to see Pixar cast him… but maybe in a minor role… nothing leading like say in Newt… but maybe, just maybe for some we might need to wait a bit longer for the news to break in a welcoming manner!
Oh yes, Kronk is one of the few roles I can accept him as. I think just the way Kronk looks makes him already perfect for the role.
I’m talking about, say, the MERF agents in Fairly Oddparents. I thought Wishology was pretty good episode…until they arrived. I dunno, his voice ruined it for me. The characters didn’t really look like he should be playing them and after sitting through the disaster that was Space Chimps that was all I could think about.
I dont know if I’d say overused, as Family Guy is the only show I watch on a regular basis that has him in it. I have seen him in other things, but not enough to make me think i hear too much of him.
Yes, I am extremely tired of Patrick Warburton. He’s in more than half of all non pixar/dreamworks/disney/blue sky animated films if you think about it. But sometimes he’s perfect for the role, even know it’s boring not a lot of people could play the wolf in Hoodwinked or Kronk in The Emperor’s new groove. {Which is the only film that I liked him in.}
Yeah, I agree with everyone. He’s great as Kronk, but everytime I hear him elsewhere it’s to the point of distraction that you recognize his voice so much.
