Apple Designer helped design Eve [Article Link]

In the “For What It’s Worth” department, a story today talking about how Jonathan Ive, the head of Apple’s design department, had a hand in helping to design Eve:

It was interesting to find out that it was Jonny Ive that went. I was aware that Apple’s design team was there but didn’t know they went as far up as Jonny.

I was surprised also by the fact that Jonny didn’t delve into future design trends and stuff (let’s face it, Jonny is the future design trends LOL). I thought Apple and Pixar would have been closer in that respect. EIther that or he did, it’s just that neither can comment on it. Don’t want people stealing ideas for future designs of Apple products.

No where in this article (or in the “Art Of” book) does it state that Ives helped design Eve. He was talked to, that’s about it. In the “Art of Wall-e” book, which I recieved today, it’s QUITE clear that a gentleman named Jay Shuster designed Eve from top to bottom.

The book itself is fantastic. Beautifully designed, incredibly well written. The writing , by Tim Hauser, is sparse, but to the point and very evocative of the imagery. The overwhelming commentary is about how difficult it was to create a film with virtually no dialogue. The production designer, Ralph Eggleston, is interviewed about how every piece of art had to describe so much of the world and Wall-e’s relationship to it that far more than the normal amount of artwork for a Pixar film was created. If there’s more artwork than in this book, they should release more books. The drawings and paintings by everyone involved are amazing.

Wall-e is going to be one of the best cartoons ever.

I read Mike B.'s take on the collaboration (from The Pixar Blog). Good enough for me to quote:

I made a long, mental “hmmmmm” when I read that. And Stanton even said that Ive “couldn’t even really allude to where the future of technology was going.” I don’t know about you, but in a split second I visualized spotless white underground labs with hovering robots being cultivated in Apple’s top-secret tech incubators. Who else is finds this info science-fictiony? :open_mouth: Reminds me of, like, Ray Bradbury!

I hear that God consulted Jony with the design of Earth when he gave it form.

Which god?

And since Eve was already designed before Ives visited Pixar, I’m glad one of those many gods gave him something to do!
