I actually think that it wouldn’t have mattered who got plowed away by the truck. The impression that I got was that nobody had time to process what had happened to the aliens because they were fighting for their lives just seconds later. Had the aliens still been missing after they escaped from the incinerator, I think the other toys would have either gone to look for them or been fully hit by what had happened and started to mourn their loss
And as Reaper052 points out, from a story standpoint, the aliens can’t be brought up again because it would ruin the surprise of their return.
The LGM’s have always been fan-favorites, and they haven’t had a major role the entire film. At the dump is the filmmaker’s chance to finally redeem their uselessness in the film thus far.
As said, the toys had no chance to properly mourn the LGM’s, since they were immediately sent on the conveyor belt to Hell. If they had any time to rest and mourn, it would’ve been after they escaped the shredder, right before they realized they were heading for the incinerator. But even then, it was only a few moments of reprieve.
To answer your question of whether the LGM’s were important to the plot - You can’t watch the incinerator scene and tell me they weren’t vital to the toy’s survival of the film - which was ultimately one of the main themes of the film. Surviving a kid outgrowing their toys.
In the Toy Story 2 commentary they mentioned that the LGMs weren’t going to have a big part in that sequel at all (originally they only had a small cameo in the deleted scene Godzilla Rex), but gave them a better re-introduction in the Pizza Planet truck because they discovered that the LGMs were incredibly popular over in Japan after the first film came out. I’m glad they did, because the gag of being saved by Mr. Potato Head is now a great foreshadowing of how much they would be needed at the end of Toy Story 3, as well as to pay off their relationship. Just think: if Andy’s toys didn’t take them back with them, they would have all been done for.
Yeah i get it it was done for story purposes and the Lgm’s saved the toys from a flaming death! So yeah i get why they were not mourned toys didnt have time and get them out of people’s minds so once they save the day people are shocked.
OF course they saved everyone from being boiled, oiled and cooked in deep the hot inferno!!!
really.they are heroes.we would have lost our beloved toys at the dump if it weren’t for the LGM’s…
I know i was just telling people i get it some people are posting it was from a film stand point and stuff which i know. And that the toys didnt have time to think about it i dunno if this thread really has a use anymore.
