And ‘The Dash’ just fits so well it’d just be wrong for him to be called anything
else!

That’s true, but what if his friends get suspicous?
I always thought Violet could’ve
used “UltraViolet” until the movie bearing that name came out afterwards. But come to think of it,
Elastigirl was used prior to ‘The Incredibles’.
hehe - Well - if his friends get “suspicous” that’s where the whole alter-ego thing
comes in. Think about the Superman series. The whole idea of giving The Incredibles masks was a play on the
idea of how can anyone not tell that Superman is Clark Kent without glasses. The fact there is that they don’t
just put on masks, they put on whole new identities when they don their alter-egoes. How many times has someone
suspissioned Clark Kent’s true identity only to let the thaught pass because there’s no way a mild mannered
reporter who’s a bit shy, aloof, and introverted could possibly be the man of steel despite the curious
similarities.
Chances are it’s the same way with the supers. With the exception of the little bit of the
wedding we don’t get to see any of their true secret identities - remember that after the ban they would assume
a whole new identity not just an alter-ego. But even in this brief encounter we can make certain distinctions.
It’s especially true with Frozone. Note how in the interview he plays up his African-American herritage with
the dialect and downtown attitude but when we see him at the wedding he’s generally calm and laid back with an
air of sophistication not seen in his super self. Even Bob and Helen do it - Bob playing the part of a ladie’s
man as Mr. Incredible (note all the sly looks and debonaire and suave actions he uses despite his interest in
settling down) and Helen plays the part of a modern, sexy flirt (just look at that outfit!) but in reality, we
all know she would have never gone for Bob if he wasn’t wholy true to her and I highly doubt Helen went around
showing off her body no matter how glorious it was.
The point is, while the mask is key because it gives
you a new face (however slight the change), it’s their alter-ego and changed personality that protects their
identity in the long run. =)
That, and Pixar probably wanted masks that still allow the emotion form the eyes to play
through…
Well, it is their caricacured
parts that really stand out to me (hook on Helen’s hair, or Violet’s long black hair). Their masks do hide
their identity well enough. Just not wel enough for any civilian at Metroville who observes them carefully.
I thought about that several times too, but in the sequel,
they will be called ‘The Incredibles’ for sure. (I’m always saying that there will be a sequel, even if it’s
not official)
BTW: When you talked about the code name ‘Tights’ it reminded me of the moment, where I
first saw a picture of Syndrome: I thought he was a woman!! An evil superhero woman!!

You are not alone. I also believe that there will be one in the begining. I
pray for it even. But anyways, if they will be called the Incredibles, then they will have to maybe change the
names to everyone in the family.
Bob: Mr. Incredible
Helen: Mrs. Incredible (instead of
Elastigirl)
Violet: Incredigirl
Dash: Incrediguy or Incrediboy (if Bob allows it)
Jack-Jack: I don’t
know yet.
Incredibaby? I would think it’s a similar route to ‘Fantastic Four’ & 1 member is
called ‘Mr. Fantastic’
IMO, calling everyone with a name that has “Incredi” at the
beginning of it might make things very confusing. Each member of the family needs their own personal super
identity to help bring out their character more.

But they are a family of supers known as
The Incredibles ![]()
I agree with ya. Never liked the idea of having ‘Incredi-’ on each characters hero names, it just makes
it…cheesy in some ways…
And the kids
would probably want something original too.

Don’tcha think
I know that? ![]()

I
guess technically, their family name is “The Incredibles” when they dress as superheroes- since Mr.
Incredible would be the head of house. But In the everyday life, we’re assuming Bob was born as Robert Parr, so
that would be the mundane family name.
That’s crazy. I
never really noticed that “The Incredibles” are never really referred to by their title in the film. I
think characters in the film just assume that they are The Incredibles, though. And the family of superheroes is
just newly formed so their official title has not been identified yet.
And I would have to completely
agree on Dash about secret identities. I think it makes for a good essay to write about!
Plus, like TheIncredible said. The citezens of Metroville
never saw the family of Supers perform until after they defeated the omnidroid. I think it would be too early to
call them the Incredible because they were sio new. But I guess that the people started calling them that off
screen and at other parts of the city.
wow these
are really good points! Seriously! I know Dash called himself that…its obvious he likes it.
