Yes, that’s unfortunately a sad treatment that many cartoons get from older people (both Disney and Pixar) and have always gotten, where they scoff at and are biased towards anything that looks kiddy to them. The only cartoons people like that ever seem to care about are ones that are hip, edgy, and “mature” enough to them, which would be adult oriented stuff along the lines of Family Guy or South Park, but to me it’s their cartoons that are junk. They don’t have the same understanding we do of just what it is that makes Pixar films so great: the art, the storytelling, and the quality of it, and they are not as appreciative of those things as we are. There’s also that big misunderstanding that adults are only interested in crude, mean-spirited type humor (which they commonly call “Adult Humor”), but they’re wrong. Many adults have given praise to Wall-E, Up, and Toy Story 3 for being some of the greatest films made today because of being engrossed in the story and engaged with likable characters we can all relate to and care about, which are the sort of things that everyone should be looking for. It’s because of that I can never understand the idea that adult cartoons can make appealing characters out of poor animation and cruel jokes every minute.
Oh well, end of rant.
A couple of my friends are mild fans, but nowhere near my level. I saw the Double Feature and TS3 with one of them. Another one talks to me about Pixar occasionally, and is the first person I’ve ever met in real life who cried at a Pixar movie (Toy Story 3). Other than that, nobody. I generally try to hide my Pixar fandom to prevent public humiliation, but the second someone walks into my room I can’t hide it anymore. So, only my good friends really know, but none of them know I go on fan sites or anything.
A few of my friends are Pixar friends, but like with Bryko, none of them are obsessed to the level that I am. In fact, only one of them can technically be considered a Pixar fan, because he recognizes the difference between Pixar and the rest of the animated movies. The other ones are more like people who just enjoy watching animations in general.
But who knows? Maybe someone I know is a closet Pixar fanatic!
That is EXACTLY like me! Sometimes I wish other teens would just understand…but oh well…I’m happy in my own little pixar bubble…haha. Makes sense because we’re the same age. lol.
Yes! But not to the extent that I am. But they all have a favorite Pixar movie, they’ve all seen the Pixar movies. In fact, my group of friends took up a row and a half at the local screening of Toy Story 3 the other night. We grew up with Pixar, and continue to love it!
But none of them go on Pixar blogs, forums, or have a wide knowledge of trivia like I do. They’re fans, not fanatics!
Well if by “friends” you mean people at my school or people I’ve met in person, no. Everyone I know is an idiot and hates me. Some of them like “those weird shiny Disney movies” but if that’s what you call Pixar movies, we’re not friends. However, my “friends” here do!!
I’m sorry to hear that you’re lackin in Pixar support! But that’s what all the awesome people on these forums are for!
I know. I love you guys so much!!
My friends aren’t really fans of Pixar, but they enjoy watching their movies. They don’t care much for WALL-E. They don’t bug me for liking it though. (I have good friends )
Most of my friends have seen the movies, but they aren’t exactly fans. Really the only person I know who shares my love of Pixar (and movies in general) is my dad, oddly enough. He’ll probably be the one who takes me to see Toy Story 3.
Some of them. I have one friend who likes Finding Nemo because she said it’s boring, which makes no sense, and WALL-E, just because she likes it, but I have another friend who likes Pixar just about as much as I do. The others usually just like some of them.
My two best friends (that’s my sister and a girl I know since I was born) are, but they are the only ones I know in real life.
That doesn’t mean that my other friends dislike it, but they’re hardly fans. The good thing is that, as my career has a lot to do with the movie business, most of my friends are able to tell which are quality film and which are not (most people can’t do that), so most of them recognize the perfection of Pixar films.
I wish my dad was like yours, Evil_Genius. He doesn’t mind movies, though he hardly watches them in theatres.
But he doesn’t think much to Pixar. Sure, he says some of their films are good, but otherwise he thinks Pixar is babyish (grrrrrrrrrrr)
Me and a friend want to see TS3, so maybe we’ll go in a few weeks when it gets released in the UK. Bring on my brother’s & sister’s teasing
A few of my friends enjoy the films, yeah. My parents do, to.
Not on the same level as I do, mind.
My parents will see the film once, say they liked it, and never see it again.
On the friend side, a few are fans, but one can relay the entire script of Up with me so that is awesome.
Haha, this kid that I barely know (but is my friend on Facebook) posted as his Facebook status:
I talked to him like once in real life, but I immediately jumped on the comments and said that I wholeheartedly agreed with him. Needless to say, he jumped up quite a few points on Ding’s Friend-o-Meter!
Exactly. There’s a difference between an entertaining film and a great film. Over the Hedge was a cute, enjoyable film. I laughed a lot though it, and I wouldn’t mind seeing it again. That said, it’s not a great film. Not a bad film, but not a great one.
Raging Bull is an amazing movie. I could hardly get through it, and I wouldn’t watch it again if someone paid me. But I can recognize the fact that it’s a good movie, and I know why it has attained the status of a classic. I’m sorry if I come off sounding pretentious, I’m just sick of my friends saying Schindler’s List sucked because it was “long and boring” and Twilight is the best piece of cinema ever created simply because Taylor Lautner removes his shirt.
You’re not pretentious. It’s your friends who are deeply wrong.
And that’s strange, because most of the people I know (even my mother, who can’t bear most movies) don’t find Schindler List boring, but great and beautiful. And everybody hates Twilight, except for the crazy fangirls who don’t think about cinematographic quality at least while they’re watching that awful film.
Thanks for agreeing with me Spirit. My friends say I watch too many movies; I usually tell them they don’t watch enough (good ones anyway)!
Oh, and Cal? LOVE the avatar
