Australia's New PM, Julia Gilard

Hello everyone, it’s gleefan1 here!
I just got big news (Well not just got, it has been a day), Australia has a new Prime Minister, Julia Gilard!.
The reason is why I’m posting this is because my home town got on the news!
Aparently, her office is at my local town, I’m not saying the town just in case, it depends.
Anyway lots of news shows were in my hometown outside of Julia Gilard office.
Funny thing is, some of the news people were at McDonalds while shooting the news story  .
Most of the people who are on Pixar Planet should perobaly know what my home town is called. But it was really packed I have to say.
Did any see it on the TV? (Breakfast shows 6PM News etc.). If so, did they say what home town her office is?. Let me know!

I’ve read about it in the papers, and she sounds good to me! Though I admit my source was the Daily Mail (which claimed that she’s a Pom, of all things) so it’s probably not the most accurate assessment of her as a PM, but yeah, she seems pretty good to me so far. It didn’t mention her home town her office is in though, so I wouldn’t know unfortunately. Still, it’s always fun when where you live gets on the news (especially if it’s for a good thing.)

I spend a lot of time here, but I’m embarassed to admit I don’t know where you live, gleefan1. But I did see the Channel 9 Morning News, and they were filming her office next to a hair salon, I believe. They may have mentioned the town at one point, but I must’ve not heard the name.

I believe she’s Welsh. xD

Anyway, I believe she seems competent enough. I’m not familiar with Oz politics, but I know the gist of it. There’s too much bad blood between Kevo and the miners (I personally don’t think the world will end if the mining industry was taxed a little more), so for her to step in and declare they will host negotiation talks is a step in the right direction for Labor. Kevo made the mistake of not asking the miners politely before making the decision, along with many controversial issues (Health reform, school rebuilding, climate-change, etc.).

Good on ya, Ms Gillard!

Some guy got arrested for throwing eggs at her today.

At first I didn’t see it as a bad thing. I saw Wayne Swan as a bit of a Brutus. But now Gillard has said she is going ahead with the Internet Filter a.k.a The Great Firewall of Australia, so she definitely won’t be getting my vote come election time (and dare I say the rest of the tech communities vote), unless she changes her stance and abolishes it.

Much like Obama, a nation heralds a new age of change for equal-rights groups everywhere, then reality sinks in and the media start picking holes in the leader’s administration, etc.

I’m not a citizen or anything, but I do take a curious interest in Oz politics as a resident here. It seems that neither party has a conclusive plan on the ‘asylum seekers issue’.

Personally, I feel that whatever Labor does, the Coalition will one-up them better (Mr Abbott is quite the ‘Pauline Hanson’). So what Ms Gillard needs to do is either sidestep this minefield and move on to Monday’s Climate Change Discussion, or commission those 8 patrol boats in to slow the refugees to a trickle. And of course, get her head together on the Regional Detention Centre Thingamajig.

I don’t know who to support (to young to vote  )
It’s Julia Gilard, or Tony Abbot.
Though, It was kinda funny with Tony Abbot on Hey Hey with Kylie Minouge

Was Tony on Hey Hey, gleefan1? Ah, nuts, shoulda watched.

Did anyone watch the debate on Sunday? I love how Gilard calmly keeps taking potshots at Tony and how the latter keeps ‘staring daggers’ at her. 8D But to be fair, Gilard keeps saying the same stuff again and again about “Moving Australia Forward”. :unamused:

I’m just amused that it had to be rescheduled so that it doesn’t clash with the ratings juggernaut that is Masterchef.

I couldn’t be bothered watching The Debate, Masterchef was more interesting
Although, The Lawyer won
But he was on Hey Hey with Kylie, if you watch Channel 9, (or whatever channel the debate was on)
There must have been many advertisements of Hey Hey.
Also, It’s Going back to Saturdays! About time channel 9

Yeah, I’m glad Mr ‘Doe-Eyes’ won (seriously, I couldn’t stand how googly Adam’s eyes looked). He was clearly the better cook compared to Callum, and the decision was much more meritocratic than last year’s Julie ‘GameShark’.

And it’s great that we now don’t have a reason to call it ‘Hey Hey It’s Saturday, But It’s Really Wednesday’ anymore.

‘Hey Hey, It’s Wendsday’, dosen’t sound right
