Yeah, this is kinda a rip-off of lizardgirl’s thread, but most schooling Singaporeans play more badminton than tennis, so I got nothing to say on the other thread, since I don’t watch the matches either.
So, anyone plays badminton? I suck at it, but it’s probably one of the few sports I have interest in. I mean, I really suck at it. I’m better off in soccer, but I don’t feel like creating another sports thread for it.
Heck yes! My cousins and I used to play it all the time while I was in the Philippines. Don’t watch matches unless it’s during the Olympics though. I’m rather good at the sport, it’s my lack of stature that kills me though. Birdie flys right over my head as I jump.
I do love badminton, but I don’t play it often, mainly because there isn’t anywhere to play. I’m more of a squash person, but if there are the facilities on holiday I enjoy playing a bit of badminton, and I’m not too bad at it. That’s cool that badminton is played a lot in Singapore, Dragon of Omnipotency. Over here it isn’t played much at school as tennis is favoured over it, and I think that’s a shame.
I’ve never watched any badminton matches, though, as it’s not really shown on TV here I don’t think.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen any official badminton matches here, or anywhere at al in my life. Probably because when compared to tennis, many consider it to be a ‘sissy’ sport.
[quote="FounderofAzn":1szvy5k5]but badminton is 5x faster because of the birdie.[/quote:1szvy5k5]
Actually, with an accurate placement of strength, a tennis ball can be much faster than a birdie - it’s just that it’s easier for the birdie to fly faster, that’s all.
It’s the lack of requirements in using a lot of strength when compared to tennis that makes badminton seems… well, sissy to others.
Badminton always seemed faster to me than tennis. Badminton’s back-forth-back-forth-back-forth vs. Tennis’s back—forth—back—forth-back–forth–back-forth. Perhaps it’s all in my head.
Badminton’s sissy? That’s rubbish to me. It’s a very played and respected sport in the Asian countries, who thinks otherwise?
Maybe I just think too much. I don’t know why I had the idea that certain individuals think badminton as a sissy sport in my mind. Probably because some of my classmates back then didn’t take the sport too well to their interest.
many said badminton is a sissy sport as it played in court, like bowling, they called it a sissy sport as it was played in the alley with air-conditioner.
but yeah, you don’t wanna watch ‘slow’ action isn’t it in sports. badminton is a fast-paced sport. hmm…how about squash? the pain when you get smacked by the ball is 2 times OUCH than being hit by tennis balls. trust me.
I’ve played before, but I’m not into sports, of any kind (unless you live in Norway, DDR is an official sport there, and I LOVE DDR) I did decent I guess, but I only played with my friends, same amount of experience. It’s pretty fun though, can’t deny that.
