Banned Books Week

Did you know that this week in the USA is Banned Books Week? Yup, from September 23 to September 30,

people are celebrating being able to have the freedom to have access to books that plenty of people would like to

see challenged, banned, or even burned!

What can I say? I’m a Political Science Major (and potentially a

Philosophy Minor - we’ll see) - this stuff intrigues me!

Personally, I respect all libraries who have the

gall to have books on the shelf that most people would like to see buried away or even burned.

From

Huckleberry Finn, to Harry Potter, from Judy Blume to

Ray Bradbury, and many more . . . They are all great authors, with great stories.

and here’s

actually the top five list for 2005:

Still trying to see if they have a

top five for 2006 . . . .

Oh thank the lord Harry Potter is not banned…

heehee. I also love The Giver… which I know has been banned before too.

The Chocolate War was an awesome novel. And props to all banned books readers.

Here, here to anyone who’s ever skimmed Mein Kamf.

I love “The Giver”. It’s one of the only

books I had to read for school that I actually enjoyed.

I never knew it was banned in the past.

Why?

~~=oP

Oh, ‘Catcher In The Rye’ is one of

my favourite books of all time- probably due to all of the reasons it was banned for!

And it’s

funny seeing JK Rowling as one of the top ten most challenged authors of all time.

Mein Kampf… lol… diaries of a man with too much time on his hands. Heh.

Despite all the probable reasons why it was

banned, I enjoyed Catcher in the Rye when I read it in high school, and I’m still

not sure why… maybe I need to read it again…

I remember we

had to do a report on a banned book last year for english. I chose “The Lorax” by Dr. Seuss! lol I got

an A for it too!

(apparently it was banned because it put the lumber industry in a bad light)

I swear that guy rambles waaaaaaaay too

much - freaky that he could nearly take over the world.

Not to get off topic, but more than 50% of

Hitler’s success was timing…

I’m pretty sure the Bible is on the banned book list every year…

Yeah, even though it doesn’t really have much of a storyline or anything,

it’s got some kind of an aura arounding it- it really is like entering another person’s brain.

For those interested, Yahoo is also doing a Banned Book

They mention some of our

favorites in this list too . . . though if I read it right, it comes from the ALA again, but this time in the

past ten years, and not just 2005 . . .
