Batman: The Animated Series

Okay, so in the last year, I’ve become extremely in love with/addicted to this show.

The music is INCREDIBLE for an animated TV show, and the art is pretty stunning too. This was the first show ever to be drawn on black paper. It spawned other more mature cartoon series, such as Gargoyles(<3) which had many of the same creators and actors, and really created the path for these cartoons “for adults”. This show, and its spin off films, Mask of the Phantasm(1993, imdb.com/title/tt0143127/ ) take the character of Batman(and Robin, and Catwoman, and Mr. Freeze, and EVERY freakin’BODY except the Joker) more seriously than ever before, and even now, 20 years later, it is only rivaled for depth and maturity by the Nolan films. Also, Mask of the Phantasm is the only animated Batman feature ever to hit theaters. It was a huge flop, thanks to Batman Returns and the general adult animation discrimination, but it is a great film. You should really check it out if you like Batman, animation, or, just really clever writing.

Really, I think everybody should check out this show. Some of the score, writing, and oh my God acting is freaking incredible.

So, love it? Hate it? Or, more likely, never gave it a chance?

I only recently started watching this so I’m not so far along, but I love it! I love the darker atmosphere of the show and the animation.

Yes!! You would be a fan, we have everything in common except age and home state. 8D Anyway, YES. I adore the seriousness(I’m just counting the seconds until somebody says “Why so serious?”) Anyway, that’s really what makes the show great: it’s entertaining for children, but it isn’t talking down to them. It really is an intelligent show. And, finally, somebody delves into Batman’s real soul, explaining with more depth. Praise be to God or Allah or Jehovah or whoever’s listening.

I watched some episodes as a kid since my brother was a big Superman/Batman fan. I thoguht it was good. I was more into Batman Beyond since I saw it more on Toonami. I know got Volume 1 on DVD and hope to get the other 3 at some point. It’s a great series and the best comic book series in my opinion. With Spider-Man (1994) in second.

Most definitely one of the greatest cartoons of all time. Its a major reason why I’m into superheroes and comic books right now.

Eh, I do not like the Spiderman show. Everybody seems to, but it’s so childish!!

Yes!! Rac you are so right. Honestly, I think it is the best animated TV show ever. 8D And also my favorite, with Gargoyles. I also have the season 1 DVD. I desperately desire 2 and 3, and even though I’m not jumping to get 4, I probably will. :unamused: But it’s so much less good to me.

Has anyone seen the Nostalgia Critic’s Batman: The Animated Series best episode’s countdown?

No. But I must see it now!! I actually heard of Mask of the Phantasm from one of NC’s reviews. I love it; it’s one of my favorite animated movies now. 8D

Part 2 youtube.com/watch?v=GR7dmxjX … re=related

It’s a top 11.

His are always 11 instead of 10 it seems. 8D

EDIT: I really loved those videos!! They may be my favorite NC videos. I love his # 1 and 2 picks. But, I love every one he mentioned. 8D I love how he talks about the movies, because it’s so true; 3 and 4 are SOOOOO dumb.

Oh yeah, it completely slipped my mind that Gargoyles is on Youtube. Well, I know how I’m spending my weekend!

He also had a Superman episode one. It just wasn’t top 11.

LOL!!! Great choice. I especially recommend season 2, but it’s always best to begin at the beginning.

I’ve actually seen all of those. They are entertaining, but it’s a shame they’re all from The New Batman Adventures.

So? It’s still a good show. The only thing I hated about them was the Joker’s apperence. He looked stupid. Other then that I’m fine with it.

All the redesigns looked silly. They ruined the whole film noir aspect. And the show became sillier too. More childish in plot and theme as well as look and feel. It is still a good show, but the problem is it is not great like BTAS is. The over haul is regarded by fans as the show’s one flaw.

Have you seen Return of the Joker? It’s the movie for Batman Beyond. It’s pretty dark.

No I haven’t I have seen about 15 episodes of Batman Beyond, and more as they record. I dislike it, and honestly some parts really hurt my feelings, like the episode A Touch of Curare. But I watch it so I can see all of it to give it a chance. BTAS will probably never be matched by any DCAU show though in all honesty.

Nostalgia Critic said there’s a movie. Though it wasn’t a big hit. I haven’t seen it.
