what do you guys think of this? Being the supporter of Digital 3-D I am, and being the humongous fan of Beauty and the Beast, I cannot wait for February 17th to come around! I feel like Beauty and the Beast is the perfect movie to introduce the world to 2-D animation in Digital 3-D! What do you guys think?
I’m happy that traditional animation is more or less coming back to the big screen, but I don’t think it warrants a 3D outing. Honestly, unless the movie is built for 3D, it shouldn’t ever get 3D.
I also share the same ambivalence (I picked the ‘Happy if it comes to my country’ option). Though I’m glad that B&B is making a return to the big-screens in an all-new format, I don’t think I’ll go out to see it when I can just rent it on DVD. Maybe if it was IMAX or something, but the 3-D gimmickry put me off a bit (it was not made with such technology in mind in the first place).
I regret not having seen this film ever, so I welcome the chance of doing so on the big screen.
However, like ffdude and CMB I think you shouldn’t convert a film like that to 3D after the fact.
Somehow I fear the result won’t be particularly convincing.
I also thought that when it was first announced, according to what John Lasseter said during Comic-Con though says that when the first scenes were converted to 3-D, it really made the movie look more rounded and more real. I can’t wait to see what he means…
Well, I was thinking and some of the scenes (I know at least ONE of the scenes, used computer animation to help create it so MAYBE it could look great, but I doubt it.
Yeah, ditto that, 1986- that’s the only scene I can see working, too. I’m curious as to what the effect will be but I’m not so enthusiastic about movies being re-released just because we’re now able to show them in 3D.
Personally, these are the only circumstances that I would see most 3-D films under to be honest. If it’s ever a new movie (with the exception of Avatar) I would rather watch the movie and judge it on its own merits rather than going to see it in 3-D and getting distracted by all the smoke and mirrors.
But personally, I have no problem with movies being re-released in the cinema in 3-D because i’ve always found that to be how the whole craze works best. I’m fully satisfied if i know that i’m going into see a gimmick, because that’s essentially what it is. So if i’m going to see a gimmick, I would rather watch it along with something i already know that I enjoy. Rather than visiting the cinema to see a new release which i would rather judge based on its own merits as a movie.
Regardless, I’m interested to see how this will turn out in the end. So i’ll remain cautiously optimistic! Not that there’s anything to worry about, of course. The original version of the film doesn’t suddenly get destroyed
I love Beauty and the Beast, but I really don’t see the point of re-releasing it theaters in 3D. I’d rather Disney continue working on their new original projects with new stories.
And I personally don’t like 3D, but that’s just me. shrugs
I hear Disney wants to try making 2D films in 3D so the way I see it, Disney is possibly testing how well the 3D effect works in traditional animation and how well it gets recieved by the general public before they try it on new projects and what better way to test that than with their biggest 2D films Beauty and the Beast and The Lion King?
And let’s face it people. With big screen TVs, home surround sound systems, Blu-Ray, and microwavable Popcorn, The movie theater is pretty much obsolete. This is just about the only way you can get the general public into theaters anymore.
I heard this has been delayed. Any word on a new date?
grrr, I’m still angry they’re pushing it back again. I don’t know about you guys, but I never actually got to see the Disney renaissance films up on the big screen, I thought that this could be the start of re-releasing films like they always did. The only problem is that they keep on pushing it back
Like many of you out there, I never actually had the chance to see this film in theaters, as I was not even born yet. I would really love to see such a classic on the big screen.
