In my new mission on being open to Non-PIXAR films released during the split
of Disney and PIXAR (2004-ish to 2006-ish), last week I saw Tim Burton’s Corpse
Bride. And an awesome film it was indeed!
Part of me is a tad dissapointed that I denied
myself of several films (anything that wasn’t PIXAR, including the newest Disney films) in this time period, but
I’m honest enough to say that during those last years of Eisner’s reign something had to be done, and this
little boycott of mine was my way of doing it.
But now that the war is over, I am eager to catch up (Well,
not all of them, but eventually most of them!).
I haven’t seen
Corpse Bride, but I probably will when they show it on TV. I love NBC so much, that when I saw the near-perfect
animation of Corpse Bride, it put me off.

Haha – Corpse Bride is the
only Tim Burton film I like…so far.
And let’s hope that the end of the “war” is not
simply a post-ponement…

Speaking of which, has anybody read James B.
Stewart’s Disney
War?

I read about half of it when it came
out and it was pretty interesting… gives you a lot of personal information as well.
Corpse Bride was
great… not to mention the score.
Edit - just fixing the link so it doesn’t
stretch the page anymore

There’s also a nice memorial to Joe Ranft at the end.
I actually like Corpse Bride. I like the
story; it’s not exactly something we’ve seen before… and for a Dreamworks film, it’s not chock-full of trite
pop culture references like other Dreamworks animation can be.
Oh, and Danny Elfman rocks my socks.

I learned n my video class that both Disney and Pixar
are own by Buena Vist aMotions Pictures…
But none-the-less… Corpse Bride is awesome. It’s still
stop-motion animation, which I love. XD

Wow - sounds like your teacker needs a lesson in corporate
history. In reality, Pixar and Buena Vista Home Entertainment are owned by the Walt Disney Company. BVHE is
named for Lake Buena Vista in Florida where it is located alongside Disney World. It was founded by Disney to
distribute all of its movies and consequentially all of Pixar’s as well. But ultimately, Disney is still at the
top of that food chain. =)
Oh I love Corpse Bride! I think all of Tim Burton’s films are very visually creative, and my art teacher
often shows them in class just to show something inspiring as an example of what the imagination can come up
with. However, his previous claymation, Nightmare Before Christmas was lacking a strong story backbone. It kinda
felt like it fell short. I thought Corpse Bride was fuller and more mature. It’s amazing how they made it too…
I would never have that patience lol.
I too watch almost only Pixar animations… it’s bad I know since
you don’t get a full range of animation… but usually most others don’t compare since they’re from companies
that make like 3 animations a year (meaning no room for details). I do however watch most movies I think look
good and worthwhile… like they spent time with it like Pixar does. And let me tell you… Corpse Bride
definately took some time.
