Plus Hiro dealing with his brother’s death.
I thought it was his father.
Did they change that plot point?

If you guys look at 0:10, you’ll see that Tadashi is behind the group. I guess the film shows his death to make Hiro’s origin story clear.
That looks like a rather odd jumpcut there.
If the info I have is correct, Baymax is created after Tadashi’s death.
Given that he doesn’t appear with the group at the convention, it’s likely he hasn’t been created at this point.
Are they really going to get away with showing an onscreen death of a good guy character though?
Doesn’t seem very Disney.
I wonder why Baymax’s armor is black and a different shape to his red armor.
A early prototype perhaps?
I am disappointed by T.J. Miller’s performance of Fred, it’s too similar to his main role as Tuffnut in How to Train Your Dragon.
I was hoping he’d play this character a different way, perhaps as a geek or something.
His appearance in the latest Transformers movie was better, I didn’t know it was him until I saw his name in the credits.
Didn’t they kill off the firefly in Princess and the Frog?
Granted, that wasn’t really onscreen, but they could use a discretion shot for this guy, too.
Yes, they did.
You don’t see the actual fatal attack, more the expression on Facilier’s face as he crushes him.
But you do see him die, albeit indirectly.
Louis runs up with Raymond and he says goodbye before closing his eyes.
Then there’s a wide shot of the light in Louis’ paws going out, indicating that Raymond has died.
Not sure how you could do a discretion shot for Tadashi, I think it needs to be fairly clear he was killed by a bad guy.
Although sometimes they get around that by doing a “heroic sacrifice speech” and then cutting directly to the funeral and/or gravestone without showing him die.
And then having the surviving family member swear to avenge his death and make the villian pay for ending his life.
I’m really getting that vibe too, at least from the trailers. While the movie is about a superhero team, it looks like Baymax and Hiro are the real stars here. The Japanese film is even called Baymax.
Anyways I AM SO PUMPED FOR THIS MOVIE. It had me at “huggable nurse bot who takes care of child.”
Hey netbugg. Long time no see. Welcome back!
Wonder if any Big Hero 6 fans will have the money to buy the http://rtc.nagoya.riken.jp/RIBA/index-e.html?
This is the real life robot Baymax’s design principles are based on.
If you can afford one of these, you are a true fan!
Haha yeah I’m back. Are you sure that’s the one Baymax is based on? He’s big and white but I can’t tell if it’s inflatable or just a white foam.
I mean the real robot doesn’t appear to be inflatable.
From buckmana’s link, the robot isn’t inflatable. I think he meant the robot’s comfort feature is what links it to Baymax.
Edit: Heh, sorry about that. I fixed it.
Yes, it was the padding feature I was referring to, I didn’t find any results for an inflatable robot.
Since this was the only medical robot I could find that was soft to the touch, I concluded this is the one they based Baymax on.
And yes, Baymax is inflatable, during the latest trailer, you see him leaking air when he gets punctured.
As an aside, my username is B U C K M A N A and I’m not female.
But don’t feel embarrassed, you’re not the first person to make that mistake.
Ah, I get what you’re saying now. :B
(Welcome to internet fandom: Everyone is female until they say otherwise. XD)
Let me fix that for you. Sorry about that.
Just read this on The Animation Guild and it pleases me to hear that it has such emotional heart… it gave my excitement for it quite the boost.
On the other hand, I can see fans being disappointed, since this movie got little to do with its source material. Luckily for me I never read this comic so…

… Disney-Pixar chief John Lasseter, [Big Hero 6’s] producer Roy Conli and co-directors Don Hall and Chris Williams teased the movie Wednesday by revealing 25 minutes of footage at a gathering of Oscar bloggers at the Disney Animation building in Burbank. …
Hero is the first film made on Disney’s new high-powered, patented rendering system, which produces images of a greater photo-realistic quality than has been possible before. It is also the first time … that Disney animators have dipped into Marvel’s comic-book library, where they discovered the new movie’s eponymous six superheroes — or “supernerds,” as Lasseter called them. …
Lasseter summed up the movie as “a simple story” with real “emotional heart.” Hall said of adapting the comic-book series, “We kept the title and we kept the character names, but we basically remade the story.” (I’ll just say that one should prepare for a lot of “How to Train Your Robot” references, since Big Hero 6 and How to Train Your Dragon both deal with humans bonding with nonhumans in moving ways.) …
Haha like Lasseter can call anyone else a nerd.
