Bolt

Well, thanks for your two cents, lizardgirl, and I respect your opinion. I also feel the same way; if I have a free day in Sing, I’ll probably take a trip to the city to watch it in cinemas either with my siblings or friends. I don’t think they may even be aware of its existence, so if I have to go alone, I’ll give it a second thought. For me, it’s not a must-see film that I will go to see irregardless if anyone wants to tag along, but if I have nothing better to do, I’ll give this a chance.

I’m only interested to see what Disney has got after the surprisingly good Meet the Robinsons, and its watercolour aesthetics.

And yes, I don’t think Miley Cyrus is much good news either.

Anyone else has anything to say about the new trailers? They’re fully awesome!

thedriveintheatre - Well, after watching the two new trailers, I must say that I’m… still a bit speculative. After having seen three clips from the film at the Comic-Con, viewed all the trailers, and judged a couple more “sneak peek” clips on a free DVD that my dad got at Best Buy, the production still appears mediocre to me. The ending is pretty much predictable, the jokes either recycled or lackluster (or both), and the direction not as strong as it could have been.

That aside, I will see the film anyway so as to support the studio, because I love the animation, and 'cause the Up trailer will be attached to it. (snigger)

Thanks for posting the new stuff, thedriveintheatre!

I don’t know guys, I don’t think that we should be already calling the movie predictable based solely on the trailers. I don’t think the jokes are recycled at all (I still laugh at them) and I actually heard that the movie has a bunch of surprises in store, so I’m going to wait until I see it before I call the plot or characters clichéd.

I’m impressed with the animation (def Pixar-quality) and I LOVE the characters that they’ve introduced. I like the pigeons too but Rhino is definitely my favorite – he has the best lines. Ever since that first trailer, “There’s a guard” … “I’ll snap his neck!” HAHAHA, I don’t know WHY that gets me every time, but it does!!!

And I personally feel sorry for Miley…everyone gives her so much flack. I actually like her (okay, I’ll admit it, I’m a closet Hannah Montana fan) and I think she’ll be good for the movie!

You’re welcome, CoCoMeister. As I’ve said before with BHChihuahua (another-dog-who-embarks-on-an-epic-journey-home-movie), never judge a movie until you’ve seen it with your own two eyes (or one if you’re Turunga Leela. Sorry. Random deviation! ;-o ).

And I don’t so much hate Miley as think that she’s a little overrated. (Okay, a lot) But at least she isn’t a bad role model like her contemporaries ( i.e. Hudgens, Spears, Winehouse, or Pussycat), so I can’t really fault her for being popular. And I like her accent too, and her character, H. Montana isn’t really mean or anything. So yeah…not the biggest fan, but that doesn’t mean I’m not looking forward to her first animated voice-acting role!

As for Mitch, I respect your opinion. Yeah, it may seem contrived and repetitive, but I’m hoping it’s otherwise. And yes, if I’m watching it in cinemas, I’m so looking forward to Up on the big screen!

And you went to Comic-Con? I want to go there some day… :frowning:

It was magnificent! Go watch it ASAP!
*I’ll provide a full review tomorrow.

thedriveintheatre - Yeah, it just doesn’t appeal to me, unfortunately. Aesthetically, it’s beautiful, but story-wise? Eh… Nevertheless, I’ll give it a chance. My final answer isn’t set in stone yet.

And, yep, if you ever get a chance to attend the Comic-Con, you simply must do so.

Bolt was a great film and it’s definitely signaling Disney’s return to greatness. Don’t expect to see WALL-E type stuff, it’s just a comedy, but with great taste! It’s not only really funny, but you connect with the characters, I won’t go into detail until it has been widely released.
P.S. There will be preview screenings nation-wide on this Saturday.
P.S.S. When and if you see it, watch it in 3D, you won’t regret it.
(The Up trailer is in 3D too!!)
If you’re stuck between seeing Madagascar 2 or this, choose Bolt, I highly recommend it!

I may or may not see it … it doesn’t appeal to me much except that the dog looks cute (looks like a mini Hewie! xD) But … I think the next movie I’ll see is Inkheart. In January.

I dunno; I haven’t been to theatres a lot lately … we were going to go on Veteran’s Day, but there was nothing worthwhile out! :stuck_out_tongue: Except for Religiulous, but I think the locals are protesting that …

At least you enjoyed it Martini … was the storyline predictable though? It just looks it …

Estonian release date has set to January 30th. Can’t wait. :unamused:

FONY- It was a very “safe” film in terms of story, but take my word for it, it’s worthwhile ‘cus it’s a feel good movie, and very tasteful too! Don’t expect to see WALL-E, it’s not on that level, and it’s not that type of film, but it is good Disney quality, so don’t expect corny stuff. The audience responded extremely well to the movie (it’s very entertaining without stooping down to kids’ level), but again, it’s no WALL-E. See it though, you won’t regret it, especially if you see it in 3D, that’s the icing on the cake!
P.S. If cute’s what you like, that’s what you’ll get and so much more with Bolt, in that sense it’s like WALL-E, but again, they are so different, not just story-wise, but also in its style.

Cool. That’s what I was expecting. Can’t wait to see it. 8D

I’m considering seeing it.

But is it … up to Meet the Robinsons standards, or not? I enjoyed Meet the Robinsons, so if it’s on that level I’m sure I’ll be okay with it.

I’m considering seeing this if I’ve got nothing else to do one weekend. Our city only has one cinema complex that is capable of screening movies in 3D, so I might go and see it in 3D as a test drive to see whether I’d want to see Up in 3D first, or wait until subsequent showings.

Martin - Is this an improvement on Meet the Robinsons?

Hey, that’s Ratatouille’s tagline! :stuck_out_tongue:

Thanks for the review, martini! I’m also curious like the rest to know if it Meets the Robinsons’ standards.

And seeing as I missed MtR in theatres, I’m interested to see how a Disney film looks like in 3-D. And I can’t wait to see Up’s trailer in 3-D too!

Fairly Odd New Yorker: In my opinion, it blew past Meet the Robinsons on many levels. Again, see it!
rachelcakes1985: You’ll enjoy it, but let’s say you didn’t, at least you’ll get a taste of what Up will be like, you won’t regret it! Oh and I realized I’d used the Rat. tagline, but I just left it as is (not saying Bolt is anything like Ratatouille.)
thedriveintheatre: That trailer (in 3D) has got to be the best warm up in a while. It’s great when Carl opens his door, you see straight into his house.
So in conclusion, it’s up to Disney standards (in a good way) and it’s a great way to experience 3D, its hilarious if you’re audience was as (extremely) responsive as mine, and its cute-sy but never over-the-top.

Really? :open_mouth: I’m amazed, I thought Robinsons was amazing, and I never really got the feeling Bolt could top it, but to hear you say that was a major excitement booster!

Sounds like fun, this is gonna be an excellent ‘test drive’!

I like it that way. :sunglasses: I think having a character just for cuteness sake is overrated and just sounds too much of a try-hard (like Mort the giggling lemur in Madagascar, or the “Don’t eat me” shrimp in Shark Tale). For me the most interesting ‘cute’ characters are the ones who play an important role in the story and have a personality (like Gingie and Puss in Shrek, baby Mumble from Happy Feet, Scrat from Ice Age, or M-O from Wall-E). Hope Bolt follows in that grand tradition.

As if I wasn’t already excited enough for this already. MtR was a GREAT movie.

Cool. Thanks, Martin. I’m not sure if I’ll get to see Bolt in 3D as my weekends coming up might be too busy for me to venture to the 3D cinema, but I’ll try to see one way or another thanks to your recommendation. If I did see it in 3D, that means the Up trailer would be in 3D too, right?

Exactly… and it’s AWESOME!!

I saw Bolt in 3D last night and I have to agree with martini833, it’s awesome!!! I HIGHLY recommend checking it out in 3D, it just made the animation pop that much more. I think it’s Disney’s best animation to date. The fact that it had a lot of action sequences (he is a super dog, after all) made for a great 3D viewing experience too. In terms of the plot/storyline, I thought it was hilarious (the trailers/clips definitely didn’t give away all the jokes like in some other movies) and sweet (but not too cheesey). :sunglasses:
