You’ll end up at least learning more about it someday. It’s the ultimate story really, it’s archetypal as it gets. (Example, contains a flood. People familiar with Judeo-Christian tradition will see such connections).
Sounds interesting!
I assumed that the film adaption of To Kill a Mockingbird wouldn’t be too great, but from what you have said Ballboi, I might watch it.
It’s actually considered by many to be one of the greatest films of all time.
I really liked the To Kill a Mockingbird movie! It helped me to understand the book a little better, too. ![]()
This. And rightly so.
My sister kept telling me facts about Harry Potter, so I decided to read all 7 so I can be smart too. I started reading about a month ago, and I’m on page 405 in The Prizoner of Azkaban.
From Scholastic? Paperback or hard cover?
Lol, I’ve read the entire series like seven times! When I grow up and have kids, I’m going to sit them down and have them watch the films, I’ll say:
“This series of films were considered one of the greatest when I was your age”
I’m proud to have grown up with HP <3
Noooo. Let them read the books before watching the films ![]()
Yes, and paperback. Now I’ve read chapters 1&2 on the Goblet of Fire.
Nice. On to The Invitation, eh? ![]()
Agreed. Much more constructive for the imagination.
Virginia: Wait, have you never read the books before this?
I believe she disliked them.
For a while I bore a strange disliking for the HP films due to the lukewarm gross of Winnie the Pooh, which I really thought would bring back Disney 2D animation. But, I forgot that. I do like the films, especially Chamber of Secrets, and The Half Blood Prince. And I ADORE Snape and hate James Potter.
Anyway, before I create a dramatic backstory worthy of Syndrome or Lotso, I’m about 150 pages into Goblet of fire right now.
^I can definitely understand that, I was on a Harry Potter vengeance after the Winnie the Pooh box office shenanigans too.
I’ve never read or watched it at all but I’d be willing to give it a try!
Currently I’d like to buy more Moomins books, but I’d also like to buy a bunch of animated movies, and vintage Barbies, and CDs, and… ![]()
That’s how it should be. JP is despicable.
Yes! Weirdly, he is the only “good” character in his generation I do not love.
So I just read two books for a class and they weren’t terrible! Shocking, right? The first one is Native Son by Richard Wright. It’s a book about Chicago in the 40s and the racial tensions in that time period. A+. I loved it. It was definitely true to life (at least based on what I’ve learned about the racial tensions of back then) and it’s interesting because I hated Bigger. I felt nothing for him. He was a bad protagonist. But, based on Wright’s explanation for the book, he did that on purpose. So, pretty cool.
The other book I read was The Stranger by Albert Camus. I’d give a B-. It’s not the most interesting book, but that has a lot to with Meursault, the main character. He’s an existentialist, which means that he just sees life as it is, with no embellishments. So the whole book is in this bored, detached tone that Camus writes in, and, if you’re into that, go ahead and read it. I wasn’t drawn to it, but it’s still a good read. It’s short (only 110 pages) and well-paced, so I say check it out.
Oh, okkay. I was just confused, because Virginia posts a lot of Harry Potter related things on facebook.
Hqaha, that’s because the HP stuff is hilarious! I’m definitely becoming a fan at the moment.
