I’m reading Oryx and Crake for an assignment in my Anthropology class. It’s very interesting, a book about a post-apocalyptic world that weaves mythology, science, and anthropology. Very thought provoking, scary, and sometimes even funny.
And I admit, you win. I’m only glad I wasn’t playing the Game of Thrones. ![]()
Hehe. I might tell you a secret just because of that ![]()
Oh goody.
I love secretiveness
I recently read a translated version of Dangerous Liasons (or Les Liasons dangereuses) for uni. I wasn’t expecting to like it, but it was surprisingly good. It’s a French novel from the 18th century about a man and a woman who make a game out of trying to seduce people. The woman asks the man to seduce the fiancee of a man who dumped her, and the whole thing escalates from there. It’s all told through letters sent by the characters. If you’re into stories with horrible people doing horrible things then it’s actually quite an entertaining read. There have been a few movie versions (Dangerous Liasons, Valmont, and a modern day version called Cruel Intentions) but I haven’t seen any of them.
^Very interesting, it definitely sounds very French.
I started to read the Hobbit last night.
I tried reading The Hobbit several times as a kid but I never really made it past [spoil]Gollum’s first appearance[/spoil], which is pretty early on. Funnily enough that’s pretty much where the new movie ended. I want to read it over the summer though.
I hope you enjoy it! Tolkien is my favorite writer and The Hobbit is one of my favorite books.
^On that subject, I notice that your sig is Gandalf! I’m sure he’d approve XD
I like it so far, and I’m sure I’ll read the rest of his works as well! (Right now I only own The Hobbit)
Funny you mention Tolkien… I’ve spent the last week reading The Fellowship of The Ring at long last! I’ve always meant to, considering I’m a pretty huge LOTR fan, but somehow I’d never gotten around to it. So yeah, now I’ve become Hobbit-hyped this week! The book is quite an eye-opener as I find just how much more to the stories there are beyond the movies!
That’s true! Although of the Peter Jackson films the closest adaption is The Fellowship Of The Ring.
Just (literally just in the past 20 minutes) got 1984 by George Orwell. Looks hopeful!
I read 1984 a couple of years ago. It was pretty good! Quite dark though. I want to read Animal Farm at some point too.
I remember hating it in High School. I should really give it another chance, I think I’d appreciate it more now.
I really badly want to read 1984! I recently read Animal Farm though, which was well worth my time.
OMG I love 1984. Everyone in my class hated it though. What a shame. ![]()
Finished the Goblet of Fire yesterday.
I love the HP Series! My favorite being The Half-Blood Prince. Book and film wise.
I’ll be getting the Pixarpedia for my birthday! ![]()
I agree, it’s tied with Chamber of Secrets for my favorite of the films. Books, we’ll see.
What’s your favorite book so far?
